1. Folate 1,333 MCG DFE (Metafolin® 800 mcg) Tablets - 100 Count
- BODY READY – In order for the body to use Folic Acid, it must undergo a series of biochemical steps. This can be quite helpful for this who have difficulty converting Folic Acid to its active form.
- BENEFITS – The active folate in this formulation helps in promoting heart health as well as providing support for a healthy nervous system as well as the formulation of healthy red blood cells.
- SUITABLE FOR VEGANS – All capsules are non-GMO and certified gluten free. They are also free of wheat, dairy, soy, yeast, sugar, sodium, artificial flavors, sweeteners, preservatives and colors.

Doctor's Best multivitamin
It has the best form of everything (no synthetics) at a reasonable price, but you might need to limit methyl b12's depending on your VDR taq status. Check this out for more: http://methyl-nation.com/comt-vdr-taq-the-mutation-series/.
Taking one of these multis a day (says to take 3) hasn't given me any overmethylating symptoms so far. Each capsule has way more of everything compared to your average multi, so 1 should be good to shore up an otherwise healthy diet avoiding folic acid wherever you can.
Here's another idea I've been toying with and might try myself, in case you can't tolerate any methyl b12: make your own "multi" stack with minerals and a b complex, adding L-methylfolate (only need half of these) and hydroxy/adenenosyl b12 seperately if you want those. This leaves A/C/D/E/K which I believe can be pretty much covered in a healthy diet and supplemented cheaply (D+C). If you have GSTP1 mutation, you should be avoiding supplemental E.
That B complex has the best forms of the other B's and leaves out Folic Acid and B12 for us. There's another, cheaper brand on amazon without Folic Acid but it has cyano b12. I'm not sure why cyano b12 is so bad to be honest - everything I read on the net about it is kind of vague/woo-woo, but I'm erring on the side of caution anyway (at a cost to the wallet!). Perhaps you can enlighten me?
Hope this was helpful, good luck.
edit: found this on knowyourgenetics.com
>Cyano B12 contains a cyanide molecule. So when you take cyano B12 your body must first turn
it into hydroxy B12 in order to use it, and then must find a way to get rid of the toxic cyanide
molecule. We all know cyanide is a poison even if the rest of the B12 molecule is good for you.
The body actually uses hydroxy B12 in order to detoxify cyanide. So, not only is cyano B12 not
the form your body ultimately needs, but taking higher doses of cyano B12 may actually deplete
your hydroxy B12. So why would anyone use cyano B12 if it can be toxic? Well, in low doses it
may be helpful for the eyes, but for the most part cyano B12 is used because it is much less
expensive, and a form of B12 that is easier to keep stable.
Alright so honestly it sounds like as long as you get hydroxy, a little bit of cyano isn't a big deal (cyanide fears are majorly overblown reportedly). With that said I'm going to probably go with this B complex that's a much better value & low in cyano b12.
Cycle: 6 (5 after miscarriage, 9 months total)
Ovulation cycle day: 18
Relevant BD/BD method (SMEP, Shettles, etc.): O-2, O-1
Tracking methods and apps used: Vaginal temping, TempDrop (although it was my first month so I wasn't relying on it), Fertility Friend
Symptom spotting: None, just my usual progesterone symptoms of tender breasts, dried up CM, and slightly reduced sex drive.
Day of positive test(s): Evening of 9DPO. For some reason I was extra hopeful this cycle and had been testing since 6DPO (even though I goddamn well know better.... lol). By 9DPO I was super pissy and decided to engage in further self torture and add in an evening test since I realized I hadn't had anything to drink in a few hours. It was veeeeeery faintly positive, and has been progressing since. Now my tests show up positive as the urine travels across the test line, so I guess we're progressing okay. :)
Supplements and medications: 1000mcg folic acid (can be found here for very cheap, I've been using this since starting TTC ) and Blood Builder iron pills since I'm anemic and was due to start iron infusions before I lost my pregnancy last time. Trying to avoid that this time around!
Birth control history, if relevant: I have tried every birth control under the sun. Pill, ring, patch, depo shot, condoms, female condoms, sponge, contraceptive film, Mirena. Most recent was Copper IUD, I had it out mid cycle in November 2017 and waited a full cycle before TTC.
Typical cycle length: Average 29 days per FF.
Health conditions/medical tests: None related to TTC.
Link to chart: Here, with vaginal temps in blue, post algorithm TempDrop in the background in orange.
Link to lineporn: Here's yesterday's test, 15DPO, the line is finally quite strong.
This was the original squinter.
Other (advice, magic secrets, freaking out, miscellaneous): No advice, this is a shitty road and I'm sorry that any of us are here, I wish we could all just decide when we want to be pregnant and it would happen with no trouble and no miscarriages. I had an anembryonic pregnancy last time and needed a D&C at 11 weeks, so I'll be nervous until I have my first ultrasound to show that there's really a fetus in there, but I'm very much practicing "today I'm pregnant" and trying to enjoy the moment. I've made a lot of really good friends here and in Still Trying, and I've been incredibly thankful for these communities and all I've learned here and all the people who know exactly what I'm going through. It's truly invaluable, you women are wonderful and I hope you all know that.
I'd suggest reading this article by Chris Kresser, but essentially, folic acid is the synthetic form of folate. Its not as easily absorbed and its not good in higher doses.
Because folate is rather difficult to find in prenatals, I get my prenatal multis on Amazon, as well as additional folate tabs and my DHA/EPA.
All three can be taken together and on an empty stomach. The multi is 3 times a day, folate and DHA once a day. They haven't made me nauseous or burped, although I do take the DHA with lunch, so that could be why. I WILL say the multis have a grassy/earthy smell to them, but I really like that the ingredients are natural and none of the synthetic stuff you usually find. I hope this has helped you some and if you have any other questions, please let me know! 😊
Sure, I am sure there's better. I started taking this company's probiotics and it literally cured my diverticulitis...so I bought their vitamin
garden of life - vitamin code
probiotic
I forgot to mention this, my sister has mthfr gene mutation and thinks I might as well. So she takes this and I just bought it also
Thorne methylfolate (sp?)
Also thanks a ton for helping!
I had read that 7 out of 10 cases of spina bifida could have been prevented with the proper intake of folate or folic acid. So, I told him that and just explained to him that while it's a good idea to take the supplements for a year before trying to conceive, in the case of an "accident" or otherwise, it'd be better to be over-prepared rather than under-prepared. Plus, it's pretty affordable. I ended up ordering a separate folate supplement and b12 supplement and it was only $16 for about 3 months worth.

Hope that helps!
I was so miserable that I tried the supplements before I got the genetic testing. My reaction to it (very positive) gave me the kick in the butt to do the genetic testing, which confirmed my suspicions. Start ridiculously low with both of these. I started by writing down all my current symptoms and then taking them while chatting with a friend. They can watch how you react. Everyone reacts differently to these. Some people (like me) crave them and have a wonderful time, others have headaches and don't tolerate them very well. Please be very careful when you start. If you have negative reactions you can take VERY SMALL doses of niacin every ten minutes as Dr. Lynch suggests. Good luck!
I'm not trying to get your hopes up here, this is just what worked for me.
Here's what I use:
Methylfolate:
https://www.amazon.com/Country-Life-Methyl-Capsules-Count/dp/B00DQ9FDN6/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1473628886&sr=8-1&keywords=country+life+methyl+b12
Methylcobalamin
https://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methyl-Supports-Cardiovascular/dp/B007LEO3OW/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1473628808&sr=8-2&keywords=methylfolate
Niacin:
https://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-No-Flush-Niacin-Tabs/dp/B008MONFUI/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1473628953&sr=8-1&keywords=no+flush+niacin+source+naturals
Take a look into folic acid, specifically the fancy one that's already processed (l-methylfolate). Lamictal messes with the enzyme used to process folic acid. I also have a gene that a lot of the population shares that inhibits the amount of enzymes I create to process the folic acid.
I have been using this one, and I don't know if it is placebo effect but it is working very well for me.
There are also a few posts made here which helped me find the solution. Google 'reddit bipolar lamotrigine memory'. Also you can look up research papers for free on Google Scholar to really get an idea of what it is, what it's efficacy is, and how it works.
haha um actually after reading some of the rules it says it's a "grey area" It seems they basically don't want you spamming a certain company or being affiliated with them.
I too have mthfr gene mutation which is how I found out about supplements that support methylation.
I use methyl-life
I just find it to be the most reasonable and you can take it sublingually, which I like because then it goes straight to the bloodstream.
MetanX contains
L-methylfolate (Metafolin): 3 mg, http://www.amazon.com/Life-Extension-Optimized-l-methylfolate-Vegetarian/dp/B002R3G8BS/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463606811&sr=8-6&keywords=Metafolin means $0.42/day
Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate: 35 mg, http://www.amazon.com/Solgar-Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate-Tablets-Specially-Coated/dp/B00014ELKK/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463606920&sr=8-2&keywords=Pyridoxal+5%27-phosphate means $0.13/day (for 50mg)
Methylcobalamin: 2 mg, http://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methylcobalamin-B12-Supports/dp/B002FJW3ZY/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463607019&sr=8-3&keywords=Methylcobalamin means $0.12/day.
For a total of $0.67/pill, then it's a question of how many pills he took per day. You can get most of them cheaper. Does he take 10? That's $200/mo. Does he take 20? That's $400/mo. And so on. The company lists a going rate of $58/mo for uninsured pt's. I don't know if metafolin can be prescribed, but I'm assuming B6 and B12 can be for a vitamin deficiency. That would reduce cost even more.
The point I'm trying to make is that yes, it probably did have an effect on the patient's willingness to commit suicide. But pretending like he had a singular issue and that was which food groups his insurance covered is, in my opinion, an oversimplified version of the events.
They did!?! That's way wrong. Being pregnant and not able to absorb folate is very serious, but this still impacts you with out being pregnant. One example is there are a few antidepressants that work for us, but most don't.
I have started taking high doses of D₃ to help compensate for low absorption rates, however it's important to take vitamin K-2 with it so I don't get hypercalcemia. (to much calcium in the blood) K-2 moves it into the bones. Hopefully they have you taking L-5-MTHF 500mcg?
If you are interested in vitamins/supplements to help your hair grow a bit faster you could do that. I currently take 10,000 mcg of biotin, 1,000 mg of MSM, and 800 mcg of folic acid. I have noticed a dramatic difference in speed of hair growth.
Someone on here found a lot of help with this supplement: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQJVHHC/ it may or may not work for your gf but certainly worth a try!
Jarrow and Doctors Best both have it for around $7 for 90 pills on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methyl-Nutritional-Supplement/dp/B007LEO3OW/
http://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Active-Folate-400mcg/dp/B005CD33GI/
> I also can only tolerate methyl b12 in very low doses.
I have an order of this coming in tomorrow: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQJVHHC/
Do you think it would be best to try it and see how I feel? After ordering it, I learned that some people are either over-methylating or under-methylating. My concern is the 1000mcg of Folate. I'm almost wondering if I should have had more tested before ordering the supplement. Like finding out where my B-vitamin levels are as well as methylation efficiency.
With that said, I couldn't find any alarming reviews of the product of anyone who had bad reactions.
I got the folate for even less, much less then my prescription copay for the 1000MG I was already taking which had a copay of $20 for a 90 day supply. HERE is the link for that one. It was 180 pills at $14.97 so it is $0.08 per pill. Quite the bargain actually. And free shipping.
As far as I know she doesn't have any other mutations. What do you think is the best methylfolate supp out there that isn't so insanely expensive as Deplin. My wife is taking this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B6RFYFM/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
[I have used these and if you need 1-4mg then you would take 1-4 pills if my math is right!] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002R3G8BS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Fp8VDbEZ2YG4N) it links to Amazon :)
Right on. Magnesium is an important supplement that most people are deficient in.
I personally, have also found folate and methyl-B12 supplementation to be helpful.
This is what I used and it is so tasty I looked forward to taking it. My high risk dr said if you do ANYTHING, take folate in the first weeks of pregnancy.
EZ Melts Folate as Methylfolate, 1,700 mcg DFE, Dissolvable Vitamins, Vegan, Zero Sugar, Natural Orange Flavor, 60 Fast Melting Tablets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VVQJNCI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Ty8VAb3J2DH5S
You want a good B complex. I take this methyl folate with B vitamins. It's especially good if you have the MTHFR gene mutation, but I think anything with the range of B vitamins would work.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MQJVHHC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1540261976&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=methyl+folate&psc=1
Yep…
I use this particular combination of Jarrow supplements (some others not listed as well):
https://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methyl-Supports-Cardiovascular/dp/B015XYNSVK/
Previously used Deplin (as prescribed). Jarrow is much cheaper as health insurance (in the US) doesn't cover "medical foods" /sigh.
https://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-B-right-Supports-Cardiovascular/dp/B0016003Z0/
Note this this formula includes 400mcg of Jarrow's Quatrefolic so it might be an option to consider compared to this one which /u/Entropy-Reigns mentioned.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073LMP2T2/
FWIW, I had one doctor who tested directly for C677T but also did 23andMe (v2/v3) previously. Using http://geneticgenie.org and https://promethease.com to analyze the RAW data from 23andMe is one option for those looking to check without much fuss.
Also worth noting 23andMe's blog post about MTHFR:
https://blog.23andme.com/health-traits/our-take-on-the-mthfr-gene/
They do sell methylated folate, which is the form that's basically easiest for the body to handle. Here's the type I buy.
If that is the case then you should stick to eating lots of leafy greens and legumes. If your prenatal says that it contains folate, it is almost certain to be folic acid... don't be deceived!
Edit: I found this http://www.amazon.com/Solgar-Folate-800-Metafolin-Tablets/dp/B001LR2RVQ
uridine monophosphate
b9 folate
methyl b12
[omega 3] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GCU6KA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Bu9uzbJMDYH0V)
DHA
ALCAR
And then I buy all my racetams and what not off eBay
oxiracetam
I wish they had the capsules on eBay but oh well I guess I'll get a MG Spoon
Does this seem about right ? What dosages do you take of all this stuff ? And what times of the day? and with food or no food ?
It's called 葉酸 in Japanese and can be found in any drug store in the supplement section.
this supplement is what my prego wife is currently taking. It has iron in addition to the folic acid.
Not quite sure what you mean by counseling, but when your significant other becomes pregnant and you inform your local government of the pregnancy, there will be classes for you guys to attend. The hospital you visit for checkups will probably also offer regular classes.

I have the MTHFR mutation (homozygous C677T), which is my root cause of B12 and Folate deficiencies. I also have Homocysturnia which causes B6 deficienciency. It's been instrumental in helping my pain.
Heads up: If, after supplementing, you feel anxious, take no-Flush Niacin. It works like a sponge to absorb all the junk that the body is dumping. The anxiety wears off, though it's an added reason to start slow.
I take this supplement once daily, as it has the right dose for all of my deficiencies.

Really?! I picked up some Methyl Folate on Amazon for like $6? Did I get the wrong kind?
Possibly. There's been studies of mitigating depression caused by MTHFR with b vitamins. Patients started at a high dosage were afflicted with anxiety. They were given lower dosages and eventually weaned off SSRIs.
I myself get B12 shots that are already in its active form. So it couldn't hurt to take the kind that you're already familiar with that doesn't give you anxiety. If you take regular Folate with MTHFR you still can't process it because you can't make the enzymes to break it down. You need Methylated Folate. Something like this:

Couple questions.
Firstly, I’d love to hear more about what your doctor told you. My doctor left me up to find this out on my own.
Secondly, I actually don’t have a test confirming a mutation. But my doctor ran through a lot of blood tests. And couldn’t help my fatigue. So I decided to try this because my folate levels never were something he checked. Figured worse case scenario I just bought something useless. But I really do feel better as of now. I actually just got back from a walk. I’d usually be in bed after a walk, but I don’t feel any negative reactions to it yet.
Thirdly, since this was essentially a guess , I didn’t want to drop mad money on something . I ordered this cheap product on amazon , and took two tablets today -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002R3G8BS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
Again, since I’m kinda flying without an informed doctor, I’d love any information your doc provided.
I always took folic acid supplements with my normal routine and I never got this benefit, the only reason I bought this was because we literally tried everything else, and this was just one of the last non tested things in my blood.
The folate will pollute my body?
Or do you take the supplement in the picture and then take the L-Methylfolate supplement? This is the one I got from Jarrow Formulas https://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methyl-Supports-Cardiovascular/dp/B007LEO3OW?th=1
My RE has only ever said to take a prenatal. I took two Flinstones for a while as recommended by my OB during my ectopic because they were easy on my stomach, but grew to hate the texture. Then I switched to gummies. I liked them, but they had no iron and I often am low there. Tried Rainbow Lites but they gave me godawful burps and a foul taste in my mouth forever. Now I'm on Target brand (up and up) prenatals and they're a little larger than I prefer but easy to swallow with no adverse effects. Also one a day.
I will say I preferred my prescription ones to anything otc but it'd be too much of a pain to get and keep a script for them.
I also take extra folic acid because my RE said it couldn't hurt when I asked. This at the recommendation of someone around here or tfab or something. I only take one a day and only when I'm cycling. Can't be bothered to take extra pills when my only hope is a FSB.
I'm not a doctor, so I do not know for sure. However, when I've missed taking folate, I get a little nauseous. I also know that taking folate decreases the likelihood of liver problems. If you are worried, I would call your doctor about it, or get folate without a prescription..
