I'll give a bit of contrary advice/experience. I (37 yo male) had many of the same symptoms (and to a lesser extent still do, which I'll explain). Anyway, I "quit" coffee twice (cold turkey, month of Dec 2017 and Dec 2018) hoping it would be the fix for these, but honestly besides the first week of headaches didn't notice much difference. It was not the "miracle cure" I was hoping it would be. And I still wanted to have a 'hot drink' at hand all the time so re-filled mug with hot-water from the office coffee pot constantly each AM so it was just as compulsive.

You should probably still try and it may be great!! ...but for OPs list of symptoms you almost certainly need to do other things too. Especially increase water, regularly moderate exercise/fresh air, etc. So what did "help" for me?:

  • Intermittent fasting (16:8, where you do 16 hrs fasting or 8pm-noon no food and 8-hr eating (noon-8 pm), with 24-hr on some weekends...you may know about this but this FAQ is v helpful, it is simple https://www.reddit.com/r/intermittentfasting/comments/biygsj/intermittent_fasting_faq/) Helped digestion too.

If anything else if you can get yourself up and out for a 20 min phone free walk before you get ready for day - after a big glass of water - 5 days in a in a row you may be surprised. Could do this before you ty quitting coffee or before you make your coffee if you still debating quitting. Huge help with energy throughout day and "resilience" vs giving up/defeatist by default, also some improvement with posture, tension in back
  • seeing a therapist re: "cognitive behavioral therapy & general (latch onto work projects or home tasks or anything) anxiety" - what flaws in thinking ("cognitive distortions" like catastrophizing (worst case), "thought projections" (my boss is probably thinking I am screwing this up right now...No! he's busy and not thinking of you at all!), ruminating, etc.
    • Much of it similar to the Stoic philosophy stuff ("Man is troubled not by events, but by the meaning he gives them. - Epictetus", know what is in your control and what you need to accept, etc), there is no shortage of this stuff online, like dailystoic, subreddits, etc),
    • personally doing this as a Christian with Catholic-intellectual-tendencies with a Catholic therapist has been helpful (e.g. your mind and body are both good, you aren't a mind trapped in a body etc, but need to undertand interaction and limits, also God's 'Providence (not trouble avoidance) in big picture, while reflecting on parable of the talents for small picture along with the Fr Roncalli/Pope John XXIII "just for today" list which is seriously great: http://www.appleseeds.org/Decalogue_John-23.htm)

Don't take antidepressants. Huge mistake.

Humans have evolved to function in a specific environment. Our current society has drifted us very far from what is optimal for our physical and mental wellbeing. I want to explain this well so that my recommendations make sense lol.

Here are my thoughts on the issue: Humans did not evolve to be depressed. It would make absolutely no sense if humans had some inherent adaptation that would make us depressed, because that would drastically decrease our chances of survival. Therefore, we must look at what in our environment has changed in the past hundred years that has caused such a widespread amount of depression in people.

Stimulation: We are stimulated nonstop. No matter where you go, what you do, if you are living inside of a 1st world country your brain is constantly being bombarded by novel stimulus. Whether it be new billboards advertising some shit on your freeway, restaurants/grocer signs, colorful/interesting building architecture, or (mainly) technology via your computer screen/mobile device. We have never lived in a time with more immediate gratification. Every little bit of stimuli we take in releases a small amount of dopamine, and when we sit at our computer all day our dopamine receptors can become over saturated and no longer respond to smaller pleasures like socializing or walking in nature. My recommendation to fix this is reduce your overall intake of stimulation. Get off of your computer and meditate once in a while. Develop hobbies that don't immediately reward you, whether it music, art, writing, whatever. Just take time to let your mind reflect rather than observe new things. Let yourself sit and think sometimes. AND STOP WATCHING PORN.


Nutrition: Our diets have changed very rapidly as well. Many chronic diseases have started appearing in westernized countries as our intake of saturated fat and cholesterol have skyrocketed, and vital micronutrients have been neglected. Many people are vitamin and mineral deficient, while far exceeding a healthy amount of saturated fat and cholesterol intake (which for humans is incredibly low to begin with). Get your Vitamin D3, you are more than likely deficient. You only need 2000 IUs a day, so just one of those pills every morning. Secondly, increase your intake of vegetables, fruits, legumes, seeds, nuts, and whole grains. Consider the fact that what you eat is what you are. Most mainstream nutritional science is heavily influenced by financial interests. This is a great site to find out more about anything you need to know about nutrition. This is the current daily recommended nutrient intake for optimal health. Remember, diet and mental health are closely related and this only makes sense. Your brain has evolved to eat a massive volume of plant foods containing vital micronutrients, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and FIBER. Good physical health = happy functioning brain. Trust me on this one, I wake up every morning feeling great and exercising, and all I do is follow exactly what that site says. If you need any help at all, I urge you to send me a PM and I can help you out. I will provide research for everything I recommend and thoroughly explain it so that you don't feel confused, because shit can get confusing.

Exercise: Exercise cannot be overlooked. It sounds like you already exercise, but I would recommend incorporating weight lifting into your routine if you do not already do so. Weight lifting is a great hobby to build willpower, this is the routine I started 3 weeks ago and I've seen incredible progress already. I heavily recommend a full-body workout 3x a week to maximize gains as protein synthesis only occurs for 48 hours after a workout (unless you are on steroids), but this also requires a fairly good diet. Lots of beans and legumes (healthy carbs) are necessary to be able to keep up with the stress on all your muscles.


Socializing: It sounds like you might be lonely. I'm in the same boat as you right now, but I'm trying to get in contact with some old friends and force myself to socialize. Socializing is hugely important for humans, as it is for other social animals. If you are lacking in your social life it will affect you no matter how healthy and disciplined you are. Make some friends, or meet up with old friends, and give it a go. Most importantly, be open about who you are and what your goals in life are. Many relationships can get stuck at a superficial level because both participants are uncomfortable talking about themselves. Do not be this person. Let yourself open up, and tell your friends what your goals and fears are, and I can guarantee you will notice an immediate weight off your shoulders. If you can't find any friends right now, I'm more than happy to be a sort of penpal for you. Even simply sending a few messages back and forth every few days can make a big difference in how alone you feel.


TL;DR: Reduce your intake of stimulation/entertainment, meditate, eat healthy (not many people know how to, here is how to) exercise, and have a social life

After doing some research, I'm looking into getting a few extra supplements: Vitamin D3, Vitamin K, and Fish Oil pills. If what I read was true, these seem to be some of the more worthwhile supplements.

But, I was mainly wondering if anyone had any good recommendations on some good, and budget friendly, brands from Amazon.

I'm currently looking at getting these to take care of D3:

My perspective is a culmination of disparate influences. Some of it would include:

COLD

VICE documentary about Wim Hoff shows you how harmless cold is.

After that, Google benefits of cold showers or cold exposure for tons more content. I believe in it.

PAIN

Inspiration. Mostly, from Joe Rogan's podcast. He has eclectic guests who do amazing stuff, including a professional hunter who does 100 mile marathons and talks about his experiences. He talks to Sue Aiken, who runs a fuel depot 200 miles above the arctic circle, survived a bear attack, got herself help, and then hunted down and killed the bear. He talks to Mixed Martial Artists who frequently talk about pushing through stuff.

Eventually, I've come to realize that humans are much heartier and more durable than modern society tells us we are.

DIET

Again, Joe Rogan's guests. Dr. Rhonda Patrick is inspiring, as are many others.

For six years I've been making green smoothies every day. Take a blender base+blade part and screw it onto a mason jar. You fill the jar with handfuls of whatever is healthy (carrots/beat/beans/lettuce/kale/mango/apple/etc) and you squirt some Vitamin D and whatever else you think you might be deficient of. You put some liquid in and you blend that up. You drink about a jar a day, preferably about 1/3 of the jar every 4-6 hours. You feel great. I haven't been sick since I started doing this.


SPIRIT

A really good book that helped me to recognize that you can analyze reality from an exterior perspective: Waking Up by Sam Harris.

Look into meditation. I used to live in a swirl of thoughts and emotions. Once I learned that those thoughts could be controlled, I became better.


CONCLUSION

We're taught to be consumerist drones who pay massive amounts of money for medicines, who eat awful food, and who come home from a hard day's work so tired that all we have energy for is to flip on the television or computer and consume.

I want to carve my own path. I want to eat healthy and I want to be in good physical shape. I will rarely if ever be sick again in the rest of my life. I don't want to feel anxieties about meaningless things.

Its true many people are Vitamin D deficiency but it won't cure your hair loss really. People don't have time to go outside since our culture isn't built for that anymore really. We are always inside most of time if you think about it. Unless you play a sport or practice everyday outside. Most people work a 8-5. Your doctor is taking it a step at a time with you. Take 2 a day and it will help. But for your hair loss, its going to be something else. Over all i would listen to your doctor to eliminate this vitamin D deficiency so she can give you the next step.

I have homozygous mutations at COMT Val158Met (aka rs4680 aka Warrior/Worrier SNP). It is one of the most studied SNPs vis a vis personality. It is a marker of extraversion, introversion and ambiversion. Looks like you are AA there. Do you experience yourself as introverted? I'd start studying it on SNPedia and zeroing in on any of the studies that seem relevant. I see a MD who practices Integrative Medicine. He uses this chart in his practice. He took one look at my results and suggested Lithium Orotate 5 mg once a day with breakfast for COMT V158M. MAO-A I'm wild type GG ,but I do have some suggestions. You are heterozygous for one of the high homocysteine mutations MTHFR A1298C so you might want to have your homocysteine tested. (I'm heterozygous for MTHFR C677T and have very high homocysteine untreated). If your homocysteine is high, you might want to take a supplement containing balanced folate (not folic acid), B-12 and B-6 such as Metanx. Also take B-2 for your MAO-A rs6323 mutation. Or a good B-complex. Last but not least, for your VDR Bsm mutation which I also have, you may want to take Vit D in the am before breakfast like my Integrative Medicine MD has me do. He has me take it as an emulsion, Bio-D-Mulsion Forte. The way he has me take it is to about 30 minutes prior to eating. squeeze three little drops on my wrist and lick them off. We use Carlson Vitamin D drops as well. The dropper method is a pain in the ass but it is literally one drop per day and babe seems to like it. It has zero additives. My led does not recommend iron unless there is a known issue (anemia, etc.). I think it would be worth a call to your ped to determine if this is a blanket recommendation for all BF babies or if there is something specific to your LO. If it is blanket, use your best judgement as to what you are comfortably with.

These vitamins are carried at Whole Foods and Harris Teeter locally in NC, but are also on Amazon. Carlson is $7 for a whole years worth of vitamin D.

For my multivitamin I use MultiVites Gummy Vitamins, which are delicious and cheap. I also use Celebrate Calcium Plus 500 for my calcium which aren't as delicious, but there are plenty of different flavors to try. I don't require an iron supplement, so no help there, sorry. It's easy to get a B-12 shot once a month if you ask your PCP, and for Vitamin D, I use NatureMade. Good luck.

Thanks! Yes it is almost winter hear and I've lost my summer tan already.

I did buy some Solar liquid Vitamin D3 a few years ago and looking back, that was 5000 IU - although it looks like they only sell 2500 IU now.

Does it have to be in a dropper for it to have an effect?

I was taking 5000 IU a day for a while, but then I got tested and my blood levels were on the high side of normal, so I dialed it down to 2000 IU once a day and they were on the lower side of normal, so now I'm doing 2000 IU twice a day. The key is to get yourself tested to see what your base level is, then get tested again after supplementing for a while at a particular does, and dial it in from there.

Incidentally it also seems to be a good idea to take Vitamin K2 and calcium if you're taking Vitamin D3. Apparently the D3 tells your body to absorb the calcium, and the K2 tells your body where to put the calcium - i.e. in your bones and teeth rather than deposit it in your arteries. I take this one:

Paler skin does get more sunburnt specifically because it doesn't block as much sunlight, which is needed for vitamin D synthesis. Really inconvenient way to get a vitamin you know... but due to being inside all the time, 75% of Americans (Probably applies to Canadians too) currently have a vitamin D deficiency. This number is even higher in black people who live in higher latitudes.

i like this list because it gives supplemented food options. a lot of vitamin d is in animal products, which makes it harder for people who do not eat the animals to get vitamin d. it is better to take a supplement as well, however, is what my doctor told me, because it can be difficult to get enough vitamin d just from the diet. these are the supplements i prefer, because they are gummy and i hate to swallow pills.

You don't need D3 if you supplement regularly. The only studies that have shown superiority of D3 is for people who are deficient and need to take monthly megadoses. I take these:

Thorne Research - 3-K Complete is the one I take.

Looking at the nutrition info, you'll see there are 3 forms. The "how much" value is different for each form.

There are foods, too (as for all vitamins!) - Brocolli, brussels sprouts, spinach...

As far as "standard multivitamin", my own thought on that is maybe there's no such thing as a "standard" multivitamin, because every manufacturer includes different vitamins, and different amounts of the included vitamins, plus most manufacturers make several multivitamin versions, Men's, Women's, Senior's, "High potency", etc. And sometimes, reading the label, you find the supposed "High potency" version is nearly identical to the ingredients in what they label as their "Regular" strength version.

In short, I always read the labels.

I've heard Chris Kreser and Robb Wolf recommend the Carlson drops. You can buy them everywhere and they're extremely cheap. Plus they're 4,000 IU per drop, compared to other products like now which are 100 IU per drop. So Carlson's is far more concentrated vitamin D, and less of the carrier oil (MCT).

Hah, I had exactly the same thing happen! Well, except that I am less patient than you so I filed an A-Z refund the day I got it and bought from someone else that was fulfilled by Amazon and got the correct item that time. Didn't have to return the magnesium and I got a refund the next day, so maybe I will try mixing my own in the future.

This guy is the full package and has more understanding in this space than the cardiologist I work with who NEVER prescribe any form of vitamin K and in fact only think about it in terms of K1 and it’s effects on Coumadin.

K2-7 were nutrients found in fermented foods and raw diary. Now Those things don’t exist in any reasonable amount in today’s grocery store/USDA model of a food system.

I have taken one of these twice a day for years since 2013. /u/I will be switching to this starting this month.

This year I had a cardiac cath and cardiac MRI as well as the obvious ECHO for that matter. Nothing, despite my fluctuations in weight, years of high CRPhs and homocysteine. They even performed intra-artery ultra sound and came up with nothing still.

Despite my hyper insulinemia my A1c is 4.2-5.2 depending on the diet and if metformin is being used at the time. I also have youth on my side as I’m an 80s child.

My cardiologist was astounded and said I can’t put zero CAD but I couldn’t find any so I put <15%. I think I owe a lot to nutrient timing and k2 supplements.

I just got tested recently and I was at 14ng/mL. My doctor recommended 2000 IU broken up into two doses with meals. This is what I have been taking. I still need to wait a while to retest my levels, but breaking up your doses may help.

    For the past few years I have taken Humira as needed when the AS really flares up. But I haven't had a shot for months, and this is probably the best I have felt since I was diagnosed. I can't believe how well the above protocol is working. Hopefully it lasts: AS is a horrible disease!

    I'm actually off Testosterone shots right now, and my natural production is slowly creeping upwards. My AS might have actually gotten worse on T shots. Impossible to say for sure, though.

hi! so originally we were using one i got at cvs with a 1 mL dropper, but it smelled and probably tasted horrible, and made baby spit up a few times after giving it. so i got one on amazon that is just one little drop, so i hover it over baby's mouth on the changing table and when it is about to drop i just tickle his cheek and he opens his mouth. it is such a small amount it must be a concentrated dose, but it works great and is so easy. here's the link.

Taking it before bed doesn't seem to cause me any problems but maybe it depends on the source you use. I use this kind below bc it has no binders or excipients unlike most tablets or pills. Maybe it's something else in the pills or source that you take?
