And here is what I sent today to the newbies in my camp. A shopping list of sorts:

for the newbies. Here are some things I can't live without at Burning man. You will find there are many different versions/opinions/etc. But this is what I use.

Camelbak:
You MUST carry water and several other items. Combing these into a backpack makes sense to me. We'll tag it with the camp locale when we get it so if it gets lost it has a chance of returning. Eye protection:
I hate goggles. Other people like them. I have tried many types. They all fog. So last time I started using very close fitting sunglasses type deal and it was awesome. For sure not as sealed, but I will trade that for eye sweat and fog. Whatever you pick, bring multiple pairs. Do not leave camp without these. Dust storms are real. I like something that's clear for night and shaded for day

Dust Mask:
You can use a bandana. You can use a keffiyeh (middle eastern scarf thing- the old school choice for desert protection) or you can use some form of mask- be it a disposable painters mask to a high tech respirator. This is another item you do not leave camp without and you bring multiple of (or multiple changes of filters)

Skin stuff:
Your skin will be pissed. You are walking in seriously alkaline powder. For sure we will buy the costco sized bucket of baby wipes and lotion (do your feet and naughty bits a MINIMUM of twice a day). If you have a favorite lotion etc, bring it. Group sunscreen and aloe will also be purchased. If you need chafe cream, bring it.

A cup:
People want to give you booze, or soup, or flavored water or something. They are not going to give you a cup, or silverware, or a plate. If you want those things. carry them. I usually can get away with just a cup.

carbabiner to outside of backpack and VOILA.

Ziplock bags:
You are responsible for your trash. If you have gross trash, you are still responsible for carrying back to camp with you. Have a ziplock in your backpack for this purpose. Putting tampons, poopy wipes etc in the porta-potties is ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY. They go in your ziplock along with candy wrappers and grilled cheese smeared napkins.

Other stuff to carry/always have:
Hand sanitizer. There is often none at the portapotties. same goes for toliet paper.
Blinky stuff/lights. Half the fun of burning man is to get lost. Sometimes you wander for so long it's dark. If you are walking in the dark without lights on you you run a very good risk of getting hit by an art car. We call these people Darkwads and they are not looked on favorably. I often carry a bunch of glow bracelets for the express purpose of tagging darkwads for their own safety. Light your front and back at a minimum. Feel free to go crazy. More is better.
*Your bike lock. If you don't lock your bike, you will lose your bike. Then your ass is walking. And its far.

Medication: I bring a costco sized bottle of ibuprofen, benadryl and immodium to camp, as well as bandage stuff, some burn cream and blister treatments.

Ear Plugs: It's loud. Depending on where you camp maybe really loud. You probably want to sleep at some point. Bring some ear plugs.

Well, what kind of earplugs? Not all earplugs are created equal.

I have extremely narrow ear canals, especially in my left ear, as in Q tips are a tight fit. But I've never had comfort issues. Yes, when brand new I do feel a bit of pressure but it's not bad, and after 5 hours of use or so they mold to your ears perfectly fine and hold the shape of your canal.

The Halos will ship with 3 different types of plugs. So you can see which ones fit you best. The ones most people use are these which are basically these with a tube through them. I recommend you buy a set of these and try them out. And don't be so quick to dismiss them, genuinely wear them for several hours. Also, it wouldn't be that hard to trim them down on your own with an box cutter/exacto knife.

OK, NSFW: Most of it. Haha! Huge thing for Garterbelts and stockings! Seriously! LOVE THEM! Especially this one, this one, or this one. I have to get this for my GF. Looks like fun. Also, the classic school girls outfit is never a bad choice! Special mention for the tail and kitten outfit! HOT!!

Doctor Who: I love the Van Gogh beach towel and throw! Then of course theres the Tee, Tee, Tee, Tee, Tee, Tee, Tee, Tee, Tee, Tee, Long sleve Tee, Hoodie, bath robe, Hat, and scarf.

But my FAVOURITE thing in the list is THIS! I want this so bad! Must try and find it on the UK Amazon!

I use "3M Peltor X-Series Over-the-Head Earmuffs". They work great, they're comfy, and $30.

• When I shoot outdoors, I use the X4A (Chartreuse, 27dB).
  
• When I shoot indoors, I use the X5 (Black, 31dB) or X4A with 3M Classic Earplugs, medium size.
  
• When I'm working on turbine engines, I use the foamy ear plugs and/or MSA HPE Cap Mounted Earmuff. (In case you want a hard hat mounted option.)

  I've tried a bunch of different earpro options. The most important thing is that the muffs seal around your ears... as best they can while wearing safety glasses. I always wear a baseball cap and Smith & Wessson Magnum 3G safety glasses. (Hot .22 brass inside your glasses really sucks.) For ear plugs, most people like the long skinny kind that you roll and stuff into your ear canal. They really bother me, so the only ones I like are the 3M classics. I even had some custom ear plugs made and they did not work at all. (And it's only a matter of time before you lose them.) Also make sure to clean reusable plugs between uses.

  I'm not a fan of electronic ear muffs, especially Howard Leight Low Profile. The speakers inside the muffs stand on my ears and they don't seal for crap. One of my buddies was using these and had a terrible flinch. I gave him the X4's his flinch was gone. I haven't tried any of the mid-range electronic ear muffs. The high end MSA Sordins are very nice and pretty effective, but I haven't got around to picking some up yet. The only time you really want electronic muffs is when you're doing a shooting class, and you need to listen to the instructor. (Or for hunting, I suppose.) For general BS'ing during shooting or listening to the Range Safety Officer, I can hear just fine.

  Another point about PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), don't take it off! Leave your ear plugs in and your glasses on so you don't lose or damage them. Ear muffs are easy to take off during cease fires.

I'm honestly kind of surprised at the amount of Western-themed stuff there is out there. Nightlights, decals for your toilet, candle holders, little light-up wagons...It's crazy.

It doesn't really fit into your criteria up there, but I'd suggest checking out the podcast Thrilling Adventure Hour, specifically the "Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars" segments. It's basically an old fashioned radio western that takes place in the future on Mars, and it's hilarious!

I hear you, I've still got some furniture ideas that I'm sure I'll get back to eventually but for now, I just love turning so much that it's all I want to do when I go to the shop.

I thought of a serious answer to your question though and that is - I never look in the trash can while throwing stuff away now and I always leave my safety glasses on until after clean up is all done. (Got some dust lodged in my eye one time during clean up). I also upgraded all my safety glasses to these that have a rubber gasket around the outside

I know I'm really late to the party, but I wanted to add my two cents. I've worked construction all my life. On the road, I've shared rooms with a number of heavy snorers. Ear plugs always worked the best for me.

Now for the last 6 months I've been working in a production plant and it's loud as hell. My employer is kind enough to provide us with about 7 options for earplugs. I've tried them all extensively and these are by far the best. They block out plenty of noise, are insanely comfortable, and stay secure all day.

There's about 120 guys between the two shifts and the safety man says he has to order these ear plugs twice as much as all the other types combined.

I'm sure you'd be able to find those in Europe.

I've fallen in love with melted crayon art. No links to Amazon, as this is something you get to create yourself! Foam posterboard (or something else equally tough), Crayola crayons, hot glue, a hair dryer, and lots of patience. You can make it any color you want, any size, any design, it's all up to you!

I've always loved the look of wall decals. I'd use something more like this, but this one would be more universal.

This picture is actually on my fridge. We had //just// gotten her and she was sitting in boxes all the time and jumped into a box that I was wrapping christmas presents in and then storing nice and neat. When we weren't looking, she would lean down and oh so delicately nibble the cardboard or the presents then look so innocent when caught :points to the picture:

My goal is to loose the weight i gained when my mother passed away in january of this year. i gained 10 pounds of stress eating and so far i have lost about 4, small but i mean it is progress. i want to try to loose about 30 pounds and try to get in shape. my other goal is try to get to Australia to go and see her grave (we are from there but live in the states. i plan to work my butt off to get the money to go!

My dad has a box of hundreds and hundreds of pairs at home from when he worked at GM. He used custom re-usable ear plugs but GM was forced to give these to everyone so he kinda collected them and saved them just in-case.
