Yeah, makes you realize what the Americanized stuff is. I love horseradish, but i can definitely taste the difference between the two. The real wasabi just tastes more like what wasabi should taste like.

This is the stuff she brings back. So good!

Lol it's not $200 a jar. I buy it at my Japanese grocer for $10 and it's available on amazon for $5.

Well I'm on Canadian amazon and can't figure out how to get the right American prices to come up (our amazon sucks) but here are the links to the things I'm talking about. You can find them in any health store and most normal grocery stores too though, at least in my area, and they're probably cheaper there too.

Got back from Nikka's not too long ago. While they did not have any whole wasabi root, they did have packages of frozen chopped wasabi -- five bucks for a 3.5oz package (the same one that amazon sells for $20 including shipping). I've only ever eaten fresh wasabi in this form anyway, at a couple sushi restaurants, so I'd say this was a success! They also sold a larger volume package for ~$15.

I like these a lot when I'm looking for something crunchy. They're only 2 net carbs for 1/4 cup.

Just in case the reason you aren't using wasabi paste or powder is because you're not aware of it, it's cheap and easy to find in most US grocery stores (on the "International Foods" aisle) and on Amazon. This one appears to have no wheat in it (though I don't have celiac so I don't know if there are non-obvious wheat/gluten-y ingredients there).

If you've considered that and it doesn't work for you for whatever reason, apologies.

I like the pins!

What about sending in an army of Pusheen sushi plushies to distract everyone while we steal all the sushi? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQXS7KW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_73lBCbHBBBCXQ

Or go the meaner route and spray wasabi oil in everyone's eyes while we run off with the goods 😂

Wasabi is 7 bucks a personal bottle 120 for a restaurant sized bottle with 7,000 servings in it. 620 dollars for 2.3 kilograms.

I...I don't honestly know what you're talking about.

And I didn't say 20-40 bucks per meal. I said 20-40 bucks per item.

u/polyester_girl_ · 2 pointsr/JapanTravel

Stuff claiming to be "real wasabi in a tube" has added oils, artificial flavouring and colouring added in.

Real wasabi does not store well, and after grated will lose it's flavour in a matter of minutes.

u/Sinai · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

Shit dude, $13, I dunno if I can afford that.

Seriously though, it's not that surprising to see real wasabi in high-end sushi restaurants. Plus you can buy the actual root at a lot of japanese marts.
