Here's a way to start cutting these ties

A lot can be done through visualizing those anchors and visualize cutting and removing them. Visualize amazing strong people/beings coming to help you. If you have guides, deities, ancestors, call on them for help and visualize them helping you. Any time you think about this person and these spells, visualize the negative ties or anchors and spells melting and fading away. Visualize a big knife or scissors cutting your ties to this person and the ties they put on you. Visualize your missing parts coming back to you and reattaching themselves. Then visualize protective golden light around yourself. Imagine yourself as you want to be, strong, free, healthy, connected to your emotions and body. Then do metta meditation every day, especially tonglen. Usually I do metta meditation by sending a golden wave of caring compassion to your loved ones, then one to your friends, then one to your coworkers, then another your neighbours, then to people you don't like, then the world.

Get counselling from a spiritually-open therapist

Spells work by shifting consciousness and will. Therapists are trained to help people empower themselves and teach people how to shift their own consciousness. They can help you feel empowered and process this experience. If you are having severe negative and/or emotional disassociative experiences, find a therapist who is open-minded about spiritual matters to talk about what is happening to you.

What if I'm not feeling it?

Even if you're not "feeling it", keep imaging what happiness, joy, friendship, giving to others used to feel like or could feel like. Negative, unhealthy energy/emotion/somatics aren't compatible with loving-compassion energy/emotion/somatics. Spells work through imagination so it doesn't matter if it's "objectively real" or not. This spell is real for you, so make the cure real to you in your imagination. Whomever doing this is doing it through their imagination and your imagination is just as strong. The point is to shift the type of thoughts and feelings that you are having from helplessness and fear to strength and compassion a little bit more each day.

Part of how spells work is through belief and will. It's basically a type of placebo effect mixed with a sort of hypnosis. That said, placebo effect has been scientfically shown to have about a 30% effect on people, so the placebo effect can have demonstrated physical or mental effects on people. Part of how these spells are working is the belief that whomever did this has the power to do this to you and it gave you a very strong image of what they "did" to you that by holding in your mind, makes your mental and physical sensations stronger. Believing in the power of compassion and in your own power over your own body and mind weakens the spell and de-arms the people who are doing harm and comforts and strengthens YOU.

Further Steps to Take if Needed

As a further step if you feel you need it, try this book on protection magick by Christopher Penzack. That will give you an idea of what is involved in de-hexing/protecting yourself with magick.

Be wary of people who charge to "de-hex" people

I don't know where you live, so I can't recommend a particular person/store to go to, but if there is a reputable metaphysical store in town, going and talking to them could help. Be very wary of people who charge large amounts for spells or services like de-hexing--it can be a scam. But many metaphysical stores are run by traditions or covens who could at least give you ideas or advice on spiritual protection or recommend someone with appropriate training to help you. That's what I mean by a "reputable" store. They could tell you about protection spells and then sell you the supplies to do it yourself. That said, most de-hexing doesn't require tools and materials, in my opinion. But it will take spiritual work and growth on your part. And maybe that could end up being a hidden silver lining in all of this.

EDIT: edited for formatting and grammar.

Slavic Wheel of the Year

I think this is mainly polish. My Ukranian friend gave me these correspondences:

Jare Gody = Velykden (sort of like Easter, but with a folk twist)

Dziady = Holy Trinity Day or we aslo do Maslenitsa (I think these are different dates)

Kupala Night – same across the border – love this one, my fav!

Plony or Dożynki = Obzhynki (not so popular J) I don’t know much about it

Szczodre Gody = Sviata Vecheria (the night before Christmas when devil comes to visit a witch in the village :)

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

The Nu-sphere is a substitute for the LBRP developed by Thelemite Rodney Orpheus. He wrote a very popular book on Thelemic Magick called "Abrahadabra." It appears in his book,
https://www.amazon.com/Abrahadabra-Understanding-Aleister-Crowleys-Thelemic/dp/1578633265

but you can find the ritual instructions at:
http://rodneyorpheus.com/magick/nusphere.html

One thing you may notice in this ritual is that the elements don't match the "typical" order and the ritual goes counter-clockwise instead of the LBRP clockwise. Neither of these things are an issue, especially once you understand ritual construction. It takes its cue on this point from Liber Reguli and the revised Liber XXV: The Star Ruby that can be found in Liber ABA and Gems from the Equinox, and the original version of Liber XXV in The Book of Lies chapter 25.

I am very familiar with the Thelemic Order of the Golden Dawn and am working with their material in conjunction with other order work. I admit, I do not like their Thelemic version of the LBRP and would just as soon use either the original, the Star Ruby, or the Nu-Sphere instead. Don't get me wrong, their revised LBRP isn't BAD, I just don't like how it feels and honestly I far prefer the Star Ruby instead (which is suggested learning for the Neophyte in the TOGD anyhow).

Love is the law, love under will.

> That is incorrect. You can get a patent for a few thousand dollars is you do your homework.

That might be true in a very literal sense (from a filing-fees perspective). In a brass-tacks/real-world sense, though, it's simply not.

> There are books

There are also books on how to use candles to cast magic spells. The existence of literature on the topic doesn't necessarily make it more realistic as an approach.

> I'm just stating what I know about it based upon discussions with patent officers many years ago.

And I'm stating what I know from working with our in-house legal counsel as well as our go-to I.P. law firm over the last 7 years of of working with them to apply for 50+ patents, of which ~20 made it to the final phase and were approved.

No lay-person is ever going to take a software patent from start to finish on their own.

I can't speak authoritatively to non-software patents, but I'd suspect that given that the USPTO has an entire page dedicated to protecting individuals from the patent-your-idea-yourself scam industry that it's not too likely in other fields either.

> What is the difference between building special purpose hardware to solve a problem versus having a general purpose computer solve the same problem?

Historically, the trade-off for hardware-solutions is that they require significant up-front cost. Establishing a real-world/physical product with novel manufacturing needs is costly. By the time a piece of hardware is ready to go to market, a lot of money has been sunk into it. There is not, as far as I know, an entire cottage-industry based around obtaining broadly worded manufacturing patents and suing companies. That's because patents in the physical space are typically far too specific to be cheated that way.

On the flip-side most software patents aren't even based on actual implementations. They're just based on the idea of a possible implementation. While the same is true of non-software patents, it's far easier to come up with "patentable" (very intentional quotes there) software ideas. I know because I used to do it as a game with coworkers.

> the whole purpose of a patent is to protect your IP

Your I.P. is protected under copyright law just like anything else. The only thing software patents do is give companies a legal tool to play the corporate game.

93 - It matters what you want to learn. If you want to learn about Thelema itself, I recommend very specific things:

  1. The Book of the Law
  2. Duty
  3. Liber II: The Message of the Master Therion
  4. Liber CL: De Lege Libellum
  5. Liber Tzaddi... Also, The Revival of Magick Has a lot of great essays in it (including 'Duty' above).

Further, I recommend my own writings since I think they're worthwhile, otherwise I wouldn't have put them out there. I especially recommend the series 'The Philosophy of Thelema' and 'New Aeon Initiation.'

If you come from the angle of the Tarot, The Book of Thoth is invaluable although dense and complex. If you come from the angle of ceremonial magick, Liber ABA/Book 4 is invaluable although dense and complex. Kaczynski's Weiser Concise Guide to Aleister Crowley is actually also not a bad place to start. To get moer into the detail of Thelema and its ramifications, there is no better book (other than The Book of the Law and its commentarise) than Liber Aleph, which can be seen as an extended commentary on Liber AL.

If those recommendations don't last you for a while, then you aren't reading them closely. :)

777 isn't something one sits down and "reads", IMHO. Parts of it, sure, like the Gematria bit, but IIRC it's all just correspondences, and I don't even think it's meant to be read left to right like a normal book. It's quite the synthesis of magickal thinking; I would hardly call it opium fueled rambling.

The Book of Lies is one of the books I treasure dearly. I think either the Masonic lodge or the OTO he was in conferred one of their highest degrees on him for something he wrote in that book; someone confronted him about having published "the secret" as it were and he wasn't sure what they meant until they showed him the specific passage. What I'm getting at is he figured out whatever their little secret was all on his own, through his own studies, research, and experience. Again, not opiate fueled rambling.

I don't meant to sound offensive, and I'm not trying to ride Crowley's dick or anything but I don't want other people to get the wrong impression either. Crowley might have been a narcissistic asshole but he was probably the greatest occultist I've ever come across.

Like you said, you can go back and give his works another read and have "OH MY GOD!?!" moments again where it all falls into place. It's so deep, rich, and varied on so many levels that it's impossible to take in all at once.

When I first read Crowley I thought he was a deluded wanker. I read some more years later, thought "this guy is smart, but evil". Again, years later I come back and "Oh, now that all makes sense..." Like /u/LurkForever said I get the same feelings and revelations with Crowley as I do with Illuminatus! trilogy.

I guess my point is(to OP, but anyone reading as well) you're not going to get "the message" from Crowley, not now, not ever. At best you'll only get bits and pieces of it. Magickal understanding, IMHO comes via revelation. Revelation comes from anywhere; things magickal and mundane; reading, ritual, zazen, all viable means for revelation. It's where you look. Where's your head at?

OP, everyone has different mental states but take it from me: one of the most powerful things you can do right now is learn to change your mental state. It is easily said, harder to do. Start doing rituals. Start practicing magick. Practice a banishing ritual every day. Invoke often. Make a sigil to change your mental state and charge it. Fuck your old mental state. Get a new one. If you think people that practice this occult stuff have a different mental state than you then I'd say you are correct; this material, this lifestyle, will completely and totally change your mental state.

That's the whole point.

If you want Crowley-lite, and I don't mean that negatively, check out Lon Milo Duquette's work. He makes Crowley easier to understand.

http://www.amazon.com/Magick-Aleister-Crowley-Handbook-Rituals-ebook/dp/B007P3T0XI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422575900&sr=8-1&keywords=duquette+magick+of+aleister+crowley

That's a good start.

Check out /r/thelema too if you like what you've read about Crowley so far.

I kind of rambled here but I've been up 24 hours trying to reset my biological clock and took some sleep meds to pass out, so that's what I'm going to do now. See you in the dreamscape.

Hi, me too!
I bought a few books that came recommended by a practicing friend as I wanted to look into the meditative, and self-loving practices witchcraft uses to help my own against depression and anxiety. I've always been spiritual, but skeptic (to most things, not just witchcraft), but these books truly opened my eyes to what this beautiful practice is and has endured, and I wholly intend to research more and practice.

The books that I bought were:

If you're trying to utilize astrology to get a deeper understanding of magic, I don't think relying on modern astrological ideas and mythological interpretations is going to help you. The modern psychological approach to astrology is historically framed itself as anti-spiritual or magical in an effort to get scientific approval. More ancient forms of astrology, however, embrace the spiritual side of the art and astrology is even one of the three hermetic sciences alongside alchemy and magic.

I'd recommend Traditional Astrology for Today and Temples of the Sky as starting texts. Along the same lines, Francis Barret's The Magus was a surprisingly good book about astrological magic and Qabalah.

You've probably heard of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, known to the Egyptians as the Book of Going Forth by Day, said to have been written by Thoth, God of Wisdom, "from his own fingers". This is the most important surviving text on Egyptian Magic, a complete grimoire of spells, prayers, hymns and incantations used by the ancient priesthood to connect with the Divine and prepare the soul to travel the Neterworld.

The text itself has enormous historic and spiritual value, but it doesn't exactly explain how a modern magician is supposed to use it. To provide context: try the works of Normandi Ellis, who provides an initiated translation of the text in Awakening Osiris, an explanation of the mythical and magical context of the Egyptian gods (Neteru) in Imagining the World into Existence, and the magical initiatory system of the ancients in The Union of Isis and Thoth.

Thelemic Magick has a connection to Egyptian Magic via the transmission of the Book of the Law. This is the basis for much of the the magical system developed by Aleister Crowley in the A∴A∴ and OTO. Again, this holy book of Thelema is complex and does not provide a useful guide to the beginner on the practice of Thelemic Magick. A book like Maat Magick offers a nice practical system for working with the Egyptian Neteru in the spirit of Thelema.

I'm hoping this will actually get me back into reading as well as gaining information on the craft, Wicca and paganism.

I'm currently reading Witchcraft: A Beginner's Guide to Witchcraft by Sophie Cornish and The Witch's Journal: Charms, Spells, Potions & Enchantments by Selene Silverwind.

Edit: I've also heard that anything by Scott Cunningham is worth reading.

I actually used a 1" bound book but it started to pucker to much as I like to glue in paper and leaves etc. I had to disect the book and used the original cover with holes punched in. I also used plastic page protectors rather then punch holes in the paper.

The book: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/0919345662/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was hoping to use screw posts but could not find them for the life of me. So i used bolts and connector caps such as these: http://www.homehardware.ca/en/rec/index.htm/Hardware/Fasteners/Fasteners/Miscellaneous/2-Pack-1-4-20-x-12mm-Antique-Bronze-Connector-Cap-Nuts/_/N-ntjtnZ2pqfZ67l/Ne-67n/Ntk-All_EN/R-I2129641?Ntt=bolt

]Wicca differs from mainstream notions of religion. Traditionally, it's more of a religious order with no laity, an initiatory pagan priesthood that maintains a body of knowledge and rites that is kept intact and handed down from initiate to initiate. It also differs in that it's not an orthodoxy but an orthopraxy.

Eclectic practices influenced by Wicca tend to be orthodox ("I'm a Wiccan because I believe ___") and tend to differ from one to the other as they're most often individual practices unique to the person.

Some suggestions:

Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton

Wicca: A comprehensive guide to the Old Religion in the modern world by Vivienne Crowley

Modern Wicca: A History From Gerald Gardner to the Present by Michael Howard

Witching Culture, Folklore and Neo-Paganism in America, by Sabina Magliocco

Drawing Down the Moon, by Margot Adler (the late NPR journalist)

This book is like an unofficial follow-up to Adler's DDTM:

Voices from the Pagan Census: A National Survey of Witches and Neo-Pagans in the United States, by Helen A. Berger

Books from the mid-20th century:

Witchcraft Today by Gerald Gardner

The Meaning of Witchcraft by Gerald Gardner

I started with Lon Milo DuQuette's books on Crowley:

  1. [The Magick of Aleister Crowley: A Handbook of the Rituals of Thelema] (http://www.amazon.com/Magick-Aleister-Crowley-Handbook-Rituals-ebook/dp/B007P3T0XI/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1413728016&sr=1-1&keywords=lon+milo+duquette+crowley)
  2. Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot

And then read them again in tandem with Crowley's works.
