Here's my list of suggestions, why, and links to where to get them. A few are only available on computer, but you'll see which ones:
As for if you should give 1 or 2 gifts, I think 2 might be a lot of fun! But it might depend on what the "1st place" person has on their list and what you want to give them! I'd say make the decision based off of what you want to give the main winner! =)

CPU
The basic standard for a higher end gaming pc these days is a modern i5. Intel’s i5-4440 is the base i5 of their latest CPU release, and will perform excellently.
MOTHERBOARD
Gigabyte makes quality pc parts and this mother board has a modern chip set, onboard USB 3.0 headers and six sata 6 Gb/s ports. Besides the sata 6 ports this motherboard isn’t that feature rich, but it is more affordable board and you will be unlikely to use those extra features anyway.
RAM
A basic set of 1 x 8GB RAM stick. Nothing to fancy but it should do the job well.
SSD
Once you experience a SSD you just can’t bring yourself to continue to let others suffer. The Curial MX100 is a well-reviewed modern SSD that has very good performance. It will make your boot up times super-fast, your OS will feel snappier and anything installed on it will open so much quicker.
HDD
1TB should be plenty of space for a good amount of games. But if you find it is not enough, you will have three open sata 6 ports for plenty of expandability.
GPU
The R9 290 is the best high end “bang for your buck” card right now. Now you could go with a cheaper R9 290 but it might not have as nice of a cooler on it. Sapphire makes some of the best coolers for AMD cards and should perform great while staying cool and silent.
CASE
Corsair knows how to make a good case and the 200R is a great case at a great price.
PSU
A well trusted power supply that will be enough to power the thirsty R9 290, plus as an added bonus, it is semi modular!
Optical Drive
Technically it is entirely possible to go without a disk drive now a days, but I think they are nice to have.
OS
I understand that you already have access to an OS so I did not include it in the price.
Monitor
For 1080p 23” really seems to be the sweet spot, big enough you can see it easily, but small enough that the pixel density isn't to noticeable. One thing to note is that this monitor doesn't have built in speakers, so you would have to use the headphones to hear any audio coming from your pc.
Keyboard
More of a basic keyboard but it is decent (especially for its price)
Headphones
A solid pair of head phones with a balanced sound signature. They should do well for music and games.
Additional thoughts
The only thing I would really consider "missing" is speakers and some sort of game controller. I especially recommend a game controller if you plan on playing either of the dark souls games. If you happen to have a wired xbox 360 controller you can just download some software and simply plug it into a USB port. Or if you have a wireless receiver you can use wireless controllers as well. If you need speakers and a controller (at this budget) let me know and I will tweak some things. Just so you know a wired controller costs a little over $30 a wired is around $35 but the wireless reciever you will need runs around $11.
Let me know if you have any questions!
I think you should at least give it a shot. As much as it can be frustrating because you don't have control over what other people do and they may take loot you want, etc., the game is also designed to be played in coop so there are a lot of cool things you will not experience if you only play solo, mainly in terms of the interactions and synergies between the different Vault Hunters' skills.
Like I said in a response below, the best way to do it is with friends but if that's not possible, be patient and consistently stay away from people who play like assholes (leave the game or kick them out of yours) and add nice people to your friend list in order to keep playing with them in the future. This has resulted in a lot of really satisfactory gameplay for me in BL2. Also, this subreddit can be a good resource to find cool people to play with.
Finally, as much as many people are ok with playing with you if you don't have a mic, it is something that really enhances the experience so maybe you could consider investing in one. You don't need to spend $100, there are more budget friendly options like this one or this one that some people will hate on but they work perfectly fine if you adjust your expectations to the amount of money you're spending and they will last if you treat them with care. Even this is an interesting option if you're on Xbox and I'm sure there's similar alternatives for other systems.
Getting the touchpad to work with Skyrim is actually really easy. You can use http://www.DS4Windows.com to remap the touchpad to various keyboard inputs. Then I used this mod to change the button mapping to where all of my favorites are on the Dpad with the left bumper as a modifier so you get all 8 favorites accessable. After that, you follow the direction on the mod you linked to allow the keyboard and controller to be usable at the same time. You can't use both mods at the same time because they both edit the same file so you'll need to take the first mod and edit its file with the directions on the second mods page.
What I ended up with is all 8 favorites on the Dpad and I bound the various swipes/actions on the touchpad to keyboard commands.
After that, I set DS4Windows to use the PS button as a modifier key adding even more buttons to the controller.
Works perfectly! The only thing you really have to do is when you are rebinding keys in the DS4Windows program is make sure that the 'Scan Code' box is checked otherwise they don't work in the game for some reason. Also, when you are binding keyboard keys ingame to various mods, your controller still has to be off otherwise the game doesn't pick them up.
The versatility of the touchpad alone makes the DS4 hands down waaaaay better than the XB1 controller. The only thing I'm missing now is a mod to change all the buttons in SkyUI to the PS4 buttons. The mod on the workshop unfortunately doesn't work anymore. That or a mod for the controller itself to change the buttons to Xbox buttons since I don't use my PS4 all that much.
Also, I suggest modding your PS4 controller to use Xbox One thumbsticks. They are by far superior and it is actually really easy to do. Both controllers get their thumbsticks from the same manufacturer so they are interchangeable. Here are the thumbsticks I bought off Amazon. And here is a really awesome video showing you how easy it is to do.
Good luck buddy! If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll do what I can to help!
While the Xbox One controller is a great evolution to the 360 controller, the PS4 controller is a real revolution if you compare it with the DS3. It feels so great in your hand. The size is perfect and the buttons and the D-Pad are by far the best compared to any other controller. The new surface feels really good, especially with sweaty hands like mine. Even the triggers are now better than the ones on the Xbox One controller (despite the nice rumble feature).
There is only one thing where the Xbox One controller is still superior and that are those great new thumbsticks with the slip-proof rim. But guess what... you can replace the PS4 with those original X1 sticks pretty easily http://www.amazon.com/Original-XBOX-ONE-Controller-analogue-Thumbsticks/dp/B00IZSTNKW or even get some fancy 3rd party plastic or metal sticks in any color http://www.gadgettidings.com/product/custom-metal-dark-grey-thumbsticks-analogue-thumb-sticks-for-sony-dual-shock-4-ps4-controllers/ for a couple bucks to create the ultimate controller: DS4 with X1-sticks!
You don't need to buy a new controller every generation either since it comes bundled with the consoles...(PC doesn't come with controls at all).
I don't see what kind of logic can bring a $66 Xbox Live subscription to $100... you are trolling right? lol My Xbox 360 I got in 2007 still runs games even though I haven't touched it in years since I can get all the games on PC and don't care about any exclusives + don't want to pay for Live, however taking a $66 item and calling it $100 is hilarious.
You do need to get a new GPU, CPU, RAM, and MOBO once during a console cycle(which is affordable since free online).
If you buy the new version when you have a fine older one that works just as well you are retarded, can't say consoles suck because of that.
As for Skyrim Legendary you can get it for $40 on Xbox 360...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00CJ7IUGS/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1381366399&sr=8-1&keywords=skyrim+legendary+edition&condition=new
PC for $42 Legendary since it hasn't dropped in price on Steam yet.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00CJ7IUIQ/ref=sr_1_2_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1381366399&sr=8-2&keywords=skyrim+legendary+edition&condition=new
Like I said the PS3/PS4 can use any hard drive(also free online however now they force you to pay for PS Plus on the PS4 which is pretty much a deal breaker for me).
You can also get much cheaper headphones than that... the headset I use cost me $50 that I use for my PC and consoles. You do need a headset to communicate with your team on PC if you do any organized play like ranked teams/tournaments League of Legends or DotA 2 or want to talk to friends, similar to console if you do organized play or want to talk to friends. Also at least they come with a headset, better than the nothing a PC would come with lol.
Please, there are so many things about PC better than consoles that don't have to be this bullshit you are pulling, you are like console gamers when they do this... "hurr durr need a $2000 PC just to run games and have to upgrade it every year PC sux."
Literally need a build like this just to run games at 1080p!! http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1MVfd

CPU and GPU - It comes with what is close to an R7 240 GPU. Should be competent in new stuff at 720p, and maybe even 1080p with the settings turned down.
Mobo - has the form factor you want, but also built in WiFi
RAM - These APU's like high speed memory. Make sure to manually share 2gb to it and set the correct xmp profile.
HDD - What you asked for. Although splurging a little to also add an SSD for the OS will make it feel a lot faster.
Case - One of the smaller ones that will take a normal sized Optical drive.
PSU - Whatever it'll work.
Optical Drive - Blu-Ray reader.

Keyboard - Love it. Range is great. Batteries last forever. Has a really cool left mouse button on the upper left hand corner.
Game Pad - Best cost/value product out there.
Game Pad Wireless Receiver - Needed for the controller.
I'm glad more people know about this, I don't use Playstation controllers but the issue is the same with Xbox One controllers as well and a few 360 controllers. I don't play Rocket League either haha, I actually found about the issue when playing GTA V on PC, and I noticed that I could spin faster on a bike after switching from my Xbox One controller to my 360 controller. If anyone has any information on how to edit the settings for the Xbox One controller to make the range higher I'd really appreciate, because my only option is to use other controllers.
Anyways hopefully I can help you guys out a bit who are looking for a better controller, I've bought both of these 360 controllers and I've noticed the range of motion is a lot higher than the PS4/XB1 controllers. For some reason it seems like 3rd party controllers have a higher range of motion.
Xbox 360 Afterglow Controller
https://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AX-1-Controller-Xbox-360-Blue/dp/B003ITY98O
Xbox 360 MadCatz Pro
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BQUV4S/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=1944687602&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002MX6TEE&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0RN1H5M4W8PA2F5WZX42
The Afterglow Controller I have has a higher range than the Madcatz controller but the Madcatz controller is still pretty high. Also keep in mind I've had the Afterglow for about 5 years now, so I doubt they would have made any design changes to mess with the range but it's always possible.
One more thing, I don't really expect an answer from this but does anyone know anything about this controller? I've been wondering how the range is compared to the original Xbox One controller.

>I'm looking to buy an Xbox 360. I found a bundle on Walmart.com that includes a 250gb console with controller, starter kit (headset, hdmi cable, 2 rechargeable batteries, battery charger, charger cable), Halo 4, and a extra controller all for $374. That seems like a good deal to be but I honestly have no idea.
Do you want the following:
Because that is about $92 of stuff. You can buy a 250GB Xbox 360 E for $249 new on amazon.com right now. if you must have a 250GB 360 S, then it will run you more like $285 delivered from amazon right now. So if you truly want all that stuff, and a 250GB 360 S (and not an E), then yeah, it's not a bad deal (but I would hesitate to call it a good deal).
if it were me, and I was juist trying to get a machine to play GTA V, I'd buy one of the cheap 4GB Xbox 360s for $180, and a generic 320GB Xbox 360 hard drive for $52, and call it good. you will have spent $232 instead of $374, and you will have a bigger hard drive to boot (though you likely will not be able to play original Xbox games with it).
The PS3 has some spectacular deals in their multi-game collections. Observe:

Currently listed at $39.99 on Amazon.
God of War Saga Collection - Includes God of War (HD Remaster), God of War II (HD Remaster), God of War III, and God of War: Chains of Olympus (HD Remaster) and God of War: Ghost of Sparta (HD Remaster). Currently listed at $29.94 on Amazon.

There's also the Silent Hill HD Collection, but from everything I hear it is a lazy and sloppy port of the games.
Whew! I swear I am not a shill for Amazon. I just appreciate a good deal when I see it.
I just bought the xbone thumb sticks and installed them on my DS4. This was the best decision ever! At first I was skeptical but all the people over at r/ps4mods highly recommended it! Just be sure to watch a few how to install videos and then you'll be golden. I bought these ...
They fit perfectly and if you have ever used a xbone controller you know they have wonderful grip. Good luck bud!

This is what I have. 30 bucks.
You might want to get caught up on the story from Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, and Metal Gear Solid before hopping in, but it doesn't matter too much.
Great games, though, and honestly, the controls put some people off, but learning them, then mastering them to get those crucial headshots is pretty great, and feels a lot better on Xbox controllers than PS2 controllers.
But yeah, there's a ton of depth to the gameplay, a lot of easter eggs and funny moments if you look for them, a crazy story, and just so many ways to complete a mission that I've beaten each game multiple times just trying to find everything I could.
Enjoy!
I play both console and PC, there's serious positives and negatives to both but I want to set a few things straight.
controllers, keep in mind this is the equivalent of buying a mouse and keyboard for PC gaming and Alot of PC gamers own $50+ mice/keyboards.
Yes first party Wireless controllers are $50 new, but they're usually on sale for $40 or less wired are $40 new but again usually on sale, I got mine a few months ago for $25
Also there's some decent enough third party controllers that cost less such as afterglow And some that cost a little more This is Xbox prices mind you, they're the more expensive of the two and there's considerably less third party support on the Xbox
Headsets
The best (in my opinion) mono set for the Xbox is $10 But usable ones are as cheap as [$5] (http://www.amazon.com/KMD-Xbox-360-Live-Gaming-Headset/dp/B003A71XKQ/ref=pd_cp_e_0). Stereo headsets cost a bit more at $30 and up but thats the same on the PC too.
Also console games drop in price relatively quickly with one exception, the COD series.
Otherwise I agree with you.
I've played thru RDR many times and it looks also amazing on the X like a remaster, John Marston was main lead character in RDR, RDR2 is the prequel to RDR. After you play RDR2 I would totally recommend playing RDR1 to follow the story.
RDR1&2 have amazing characters that you'll love along with the story and the amount of content in each will last you a long time, to me it's worth double the price tag. RDR1 I'm pretty sure you cn buy the GOTY edition on sale right now for a steal at $15 on Amazon
Do yourself a huge favor and dont miss out on either of these games!!!

Ok, I'm a terrible artist, but I love League of Legends, and would love that champ and skin.

Thank you for the contest!!!!!!!!
I really want to play South Park: The Stick of Truth for the simple reason that I've heard it's really fun and hilarious, and I need something like that in my life. :) Also, based on the description it has loads of options for character customization and that's one of my favorite things to go do in a game.
Ok, so my favorite game is one that I KNOW you've already played, but let's just go on and on about how lovely Skyrim is, shall we? 100's of hours of quality immersive entertainment with replay value unparalleled. So many different ways to play and different weapons and armor to choose from. Just thinkin' bout it makes me want to start another playthrough. Sheesh.
I bought this from amazon and sold it within a week. People say AC3 "gets better and it starts out slow" but I honestly gave it a few hours and for the life of my couldn't get into it. I was pretty much bored the whole time so I sold it. Assassin's Creed IV however is about $30 and very fun. It immediately got my attention, and the First 20 minutes are better than the first 2-3 hours of AC3. AC4 I can easily recommend.
Yeah man you can actually get the HD edition on 360, you can play MGS1 and 4 later I suppose, it's forgivable haha.
http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Xbox-360/dp/B0050SYOOA
It's my favorite game series of all time and there's noting quite like it. Worth every minute you spend on it. I hope you love them as much I do if you end up picking them up.
How it goes with the xbox 360 controllers, is that there is only two ways of connecting to the PC:
1.) Directly connected with a controller with the cable built in, not any of the controllers with batteries or battery packs. The Play and Charge cable is only for charging your controller(s)' and/or playing directly connected to a xbox360. But not supported for PC play.
2.) A specific wireless dongle that will allow your wireless controllers to connect wirelessly to your computer.
The links are only to Amazon, and there will definitely be better deals to be found. Hopefully this helps out.
Good Luck, Have Fun.
Pad recommendations?
I've tried the MadCatz fight pad when I was on PS3 and didn't really like the D-pad. I tried the XBox 360 Versus controller now that I'm on PC and I don't like the joystick on that one, either. I tried the Logitech F310, but I prefer having all 6 face buttons.
The only pad I really like is the Sabrent 12-button controller, but man is the construction on that thing trash! I've gone through two of them in about two months! I can't buy a controller every month. LOL.
I'm looking for a good 6-face button controller for PC. Any help would be much appreciated.
MY Favorite Game is...
Assassins Creed
I am playing Brotherhood right now. It is a series that I can always come back to with full faith that I will enjoy it. And I love sharing it with others. I love story telling in games and they do it so well!
Exactly this. I've been conflicted for a while, like OP, but realized that while XBONE exclusives are okay now, PS4 is about to blow them out of the water with their future lineup. I'm also much more invested in platinum trophies than 1,000 Achievement Points (stupid, I know). My XBONE is literally collecting dust at the moment because I'm much more of a PS guy, no matter how much I try other things.
OP, you can also easily order XBONE Thumbsticks from this Amazon seller and use this video to replace the PS4 thumbsticks for the best of both worlds. I did this after losing the rubber on my original sticks and am really happy with the results.
Bam. I just bought this one a few days ago. It works beautifully. It will not auto install, you have to google the drivers, but it's very easy to do, and it'll save you a few bucks over the one with the drivers preloaded. Played Shank, Beat Hazard, Bastion, Jamestown, etc., controller works great, and was autodetected every time.
Dang girl!
I just got this cat tree for my cats. They love it! I think it's of a pretty good quality, and if they rip it up at all, I can fix it quite cheaply and easily.
You seem to have very similar tastes in video games as me, so I would recommend either the Mass Effect Series or Rune Factory 4. I haven't played Rune Factory 4, but I've loved the other games in the series and I think you might also really enjoy it!
I'm indecisive, too, so I'll probably end up buying myself a ton of games & movies once I'm back home
Edit: Forgot to put an item in my original post
My fave memory is definitely playin Catan with the famfam! When I'm home from school on a break, we usually play about 5 times per week! We really just can't ever get enough! We get a bunch of snacks on the table and play a nice long game together.
Assassin's Creed!
I'm still a kid at heart!
Thanks for the contest!
Well, how often do you both play it? Do you have lots of games? If you do, you'll need lots of hard drive space and the 4GB Xbox 360 won't cut it.
I'd recommend the 250GB Xbox 360 for $299. Plus, you get two free games from it if you don't already have Fable 3 and Halo: Reach. It's also WiFi ready out of the box so you won't have to buy that accessory.
I hung out at Best Buy for 3 hours on Black Friday and picked the 250 GB Xbox 360 for $199. It was a good deal and mine had stopped reading discs earlier that day. I doubt you'll get one for that cheap this close to Christmas, so you're probably looking at spending around $300 for one.
Let me know if you have any more questions and I'd be happy to answer!
Any legit electronic drum set will come with it's own "brain" with a MIDI output. You can then hook it up to a Rock Band MIDI adapter, the same one used for pro guitar (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Rock-Band-Midi-PRO-Adapter/dp/B00409SOD2). I actually built an electronic drumset from used acoustic drums that I found at a pawn shop, and built a Megadrum DIY drum module for it and I have it hooked up to the rock band MIDI adapter. Works great for pro drums and is amazingly fun to play. It's still pretty expensive compared to something like the Ion. If you can piece together an electronic drumset and don't want to shell out the money for a nice brain and aren't able to build something like Megadrum, you can look for a cheaper trigger to MIDI interface to hook up your drum pads.
Well, my understanding is you currently can use an xbox controller, so I just wanted to toss it out there ( because it might fit your needs and is pretty cheap) that you can buy a wired xbox controller and use it for PC gaming.
Here is the support article for setup, and here are links for the controllers themselves from Best Buy, GameStop, and Amazon. As I recall (a friend of mine has a similar setup for her pc gaming) you fine-tune the controls through the individual game settings.
If that wouldn't work for you, or if you think a customized keyboard would be better, I hope someone can provide some help. (The potential driver patching for such a project is probably above my own abilities)
If you're a Bioware (especially Kotor) fan you can't go wrong with Dragon Age II or Mass Effect 2. Also check out any of the Elder Scrolls games like Oblivion and the new one Skyrim will be out soon enough.
For a casual racing game I'm loving the new Need for Speed: Hot pursuit I also have the Kinect and I'm holding my breath to see if Forza 4 will be any good since it's Kinect compatible.
If you want a fun shooter, quite a few of us are into Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and check out the 360 players subreddit Team Awesome for some people to play with.
Have fun!
I just bought these not even 2 months ago http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EQE0YM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They're amazing. You can adjust the game and chat sound with the headset. The sound is so much better, especially for fps and adventure games. You hear every little detail and you can properly feel the tone of the game. You can also put the tv on mute and listen solely through the headset if you need silence in the house for some reason. The best part is that it's $40 so it's not hurting your pockets too much.
There are better quality ones out, but it's great if you're like me and just want a headset that plays the game audio with chat features for cheap.
A quick google search tells me that it's possible to use a PlayStation controller with a PC, but I don't know how well that works. I got myself a Xbox 360 controller for PC (it's an ordinary wired Xbox 360 controller with a USB adapter) so I could better play certain games on my PC, and as someone who grew up playing PS1 and PS2 along with a little PS3 I think it works excellently.
Just curious, why are you building a gaming PC if you would rather play on a console?
I basically roll from forward to down and have kind've trained where the diagonal is to execute. I probably have a 95% hit rate (I've beaten Haggar, Morrigan, and Chris Missions with the analog).
The big thing I like about it compared with the PS3 pad is that you feel an "edge". On the pad if I were to hold a diagonal I can't really tell if I'm holding the forward and down. That being said I have a hard time hitting diagonals on a stick, but it's more the comfort of being able to roll the edge.
This "pad" would seem ideal for people like me. I got to feel one at the store and it's actually an analog stick with switches on the side for precision, so it "clicks" when you hit a direction. While it seems awesome, reviews are that it breaks easy =/ Maybe someday someone will get it right.
PDP have yet to produce a controller that doesn't suck - just read reviews for controllers like this. Definitely go with the Hori option, they have almost always produced controllers that are on par with first-party offerings, if not surpassing them.
EDIT: I should probably mention that above both of those options I would still recommend using the wired GC controller adaptor that Nintendo are releasing, along with an official GC controller, as obviously I can say with 100% certainty that the controllers are comfortable and well-made. But if you have your heart set on one of the Mario-themed controllers, definitely go with Hori, I am willing to bet that it will at least be of passable quality.
No problem! I hope you enjoy the drum set, setting it up shouldn't be that difficult but if you need any help at all feel free to PM me.
I myself use the 360 MIDI Adapter and it works like a charm. I bought it off of Amazon and it delivered fairly quick.
Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00409SOD2/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502947703&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=midi+pro+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41-GC3fP6yL&ref=plSrch
They're VERY simple. Portal 1 is sold as part of the Orange Box bundle. Basically you have a gun that shoots portals... and you have to get from one place to another, trying to escape a test facility run by a robot named GLaDOS. It's a very simply concept, but takes some problem solving. You can usually play through the entire game in about 10 hours or so, depending on how good you are at problem solving. The second game gets a little more in depth and there is a larger story arc that's pretty cool. It's hard to explain. I'd recommend picking up a copy of The Orange Box, and seeing how you like it.
If Girlsplaywow is a jerk than I'm a talking pug. :P I wish you SO MUCH LUCK for this Saturday, you're going to be awesome! I have so much admiration for you being able to do that :D
I do not have much on my WL, and nothing at all that I must have. My next personal purchase on my list, since I generally just use it to hold things I'll buy for myself, is Red Dead Redemption because I promised to play soon with my good friend that lives on the other side of the country... Which sadly has to wait since I'm busy moving into my house :( Either way, you're amazing to make someone's day with your generosity! <3
I use Turtle Beach X12's. They were originally for my Xbox, but they work perfect on my Computer. Mic and sound quality is fantastic. I bought mine for about £40 over a year ago. Still work perfectly.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/X12-Xbox-360-Headset-EU/dp/B005EQE0YM
But the fish this year move when you get near them! Thats gotta be worth something.
Also the maps aren't $60 (I haven't even bought the maps in the past few Cods anyway) and you can get XBL 12 month for $45 http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-LIVE-Month-Membership-Online/dp/B002VBWIP6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377133383&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+live
And hopefully since ps4 is clearly the superior console, the 6 year olds will all mass migrate away from the xbox and settle down in the DDR5 climate which will surely make a huge difference with a game like cod.
Happy Birthday!
Bonus. Did you get the camera?
Happy happy cake day
I personally would recommend the F310, if near the PC but the cord is not very long, so more likely the F710, or the 360 controller. I like the XB1 controller but it's battery life is simply unacceptable, and I don't use it enough that I'm willing to consider the sync problems acceptable when I do.
I have a bunch of items listed as highest priority. It was a guitar up until I bought one for myself at guitar center. Now I need things like a stand, picks, a strap, etc.
My highest priority item is probably this toolkit which has been on my WL since I joined RAOA. I have no idea why I still haven't just gotten it for myself considering I could have many times over. We have basically no tools in our apartment, so I'm even more useless than normal when it comes to fixing things.
I REALLY need a new 360 controller. I may or may not have shattered mine a while back, and I'm currently playing with it held together by tape, and sometimes a button or two doesn't work. It's really frustrating.
I also have GT6 listed as highest, because it is honestly my favorite gaming franchise of all time, and I love every one of the GT games.
This thing is listed as highest because I would really like to listen to my own music in the car, but don't have an aux cable. I can get one, but I need a special part (because my car stereo is set up REALLY stupid), and it's $120 and comes from the UK. That item is listed as highest priority too, but it's not on amazon.
By the way, you are awesome :D :D
imagine fallout, but then imagine it with swords, bow and arrows etc.
the legendary edition comes with the DLC as well, which costs $40 or so on the marketplace. it's on sale at amazon right now, I actually just ordered it for xbox.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Elder-Scrolls-Legendary-Xbox-360/dp/B00CJ7IUGS/ref=zg_bsar_tab_pd_bsms_3
you will be at home in the gameplay I think. it's basically the same a fallout, especially if you use a bow.
worth noting that elderscrolls 4 oblivion is a predecessor, and should be $20 or so for the game of the year edition, which has a lot of content as well, i'd play oblivion first because skyrim simply looks so much better that it is hard to go back to oblivion
http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/games/the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-game-of-the-year-gamestop-exclusive/106868
do yourself a favor and buy both, which should come to $60 I guess we will see you in 6 months or something I put well over 100 hours into oblivion GOTY edition and I put 120 hours into skyrim (without DLC).

Ah, sorry to hear that. Yes, I did try going back to a direct connection, but no luck.
You inspired me to try out my PC headset and it turns out the cable length is perfect. If anyone's curious - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005EQE0YM
I just purchased these
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IZSTNKW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They are great. Found a good tutorial on youtube and was able to replace them easily. Took about 45 minutes. They fit perfectly for me (others have said they need WD40 to make them feel better).
If you're doing KBM out of necessity but think you'd be happier playing with a controller, I'd say go controller.
I am 100% on board w/ keyboard but that's because it's how I play games, especially games with driving, unless I absolutely can't for some reason (Super Meatboy was just impossible at some parts for me without a controller, I can play emulators with a keyboard but when you start getting into the Playstation era it gets a bit difficult and less fun).
I choose to not use a controller because I know that A) I will be objectively worse and B) I just like how KBM feels.
It sounds like you might be happier with a controller. I don't know much about the steam controller so I can't really give specific recommendations, but back in the day I bought one of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Afterglow-Wired-Controller-SmartTrack-Technology/dp/B00EZKNT18/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492030420&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+afterglow
Relatively cheap. This was probably around 2010 and it's still kicking today (admittedly I use mine a lot less than others would).
If you're interested in some of the features that the steam controller can offer via steamplay or whatever its called, I'd say hold out for that.
If you decide to go the keyboard route, mechanical KBs exist for cheaper than what you see on sale from the standard selection RAZER BLACKWIDOW XXX DEATH RGB SLICER TURBOv2 OWNAGE . I use a razer at home and a Rosewill for work, the Razer is nice but it was really indulgent and doesn't add much that the Rosewill doesn't have other than macro keys.
I've also just played on regular old keyboards and they work fine, so barring a mechanism failing (like you've described in your setup) really any keyboard should be about as good as the next.
I know it sounds crazy, but I've been using the keyboard on PC and it's actually working pretty well. ASD for movement, space for jump, attacks on numpad. It's like a free hitbox alternative, basically.
For console I just bought one of these. It's not that great but they're only 10 dollars. The buttons are great, the stick takes a bit of getting used to and after about a year my last one started flaking out a tiny bit. I can't justify spending $150 for a stick, though. A regular controller isn't that awkward.
okay thanks for finally explaining that.
With that said you're better off buying a 3rd party controller for the 360 they run the same price as a random USB controller. Often around $15 Another usb controller will have it's own issue. You buy a 3rd party 360 controller you'll be able to use it without an issue on 360 and play PC games with it as well.
There is an HD collection available to you which includes 2, 3, and Peace Walker.
As for MGS1 and 4... those are different stories. 4 is exclusive to PS3 although you don't absolutely have to play it unless you want complete closure.. which some people weren't happy with. I was, I enjoy the absurdity. But MGS1 should be fairly easy to emulate. Alternatively you can play MGS1 if you have a PS2/PS1 or Gamecube (GCN has a remake entitled Twin Snakes).
Most people use TeamSpeak, Skype, or Discord when playing with others
I would get a Xbox controller as most games use it as a base (I use the Xbox 360 Afterglow controller)
Here are the free games I've played. I highly recommend Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion, but all of them are pretty good
If you want to see games I recommend (but aren't free) just tell me =)
Sony's model would be great if Gamestop (or whichever used game retailer you purchase from) took that $10 out of the
gameprice. Technically you're not really getting that multiplayer content when you buy those games used - your're locked out.Instead, Gamestop (et al) get their full used price (which is usually ridiculous) and then Sony (or EA or whoever) gets their $10 as well. If you're just trading games between friends it's fine but traded games were never their target. The $10 access fee was an attempt to kill off the used games market.
Mass Effect 2 is a perfect case in point. You can get Mass Effect 2 for ~$10 USD used (here in the states anyway). If you want the Cerberus DLC that's another $15. Mass Effect 2 is on sale NEW on Amazon for $20. It's cheaper to just buy the game new than it is to buy it used and then buy the Cerberus code. You don't need the Cerberus code to play or enjoy ME2 but access fees work the same way and it's an example I almost had to deal with so it was fresh on my mind. This effectively kills off the used game market for ME2 since you get more of the game (for less money) when you buy it new.
I spent way too much time on this, but let's see how your claim plays out.
2. Akai MPK249 $400
2. Yamaha P71 $415
3. 21.5 inch iMac $1100 (although this is the base model, probably a good estimate)
3. Edifier R1280T Near Field Monitors $99
5. Asus 24" monitor $130x5=$650
4. Logitech G27 I'm going to say around $300, even though Amazon has it listed for nearly $1000. Seems like the MSRP a few years ago was $300-$400.
Add in like $1000 for each desk and $2000 for each computer we don't see (assuming there are two), that gets us to a total of $11,068.
There is a laptop bag stashed on the left side of the frame, so maybe it's a $9000 laptop.
I've heard nothing but awful things about the steam controllers. Other than that its a personal preference. Im using an afterglow xbox 360 controller and its the best. Plus its only $20 on amazon. As long as you dont mind a wired controller. Here is a link to amazon if its something your interested in. Plus you can chose LED colors.
My bf and I love League! :)

Dude, just get yourself a wired Xbox 360 controller for thirty bones and play around and see if you can get the controls to work well with it (even if you don't end up doing so, you should probably have a 360 controller if you want to get into XNA development) (I'm thinking some kind of dual-joystick scheme, maybe?). I'll be glad to help you test and make sure it works on a 360 if you do :)
I don't know about Playstation controllers, but I use a 3rd party Xbox 360 controller that works well:
https://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AX-1-Controller-Xbox-360-Blue/dp/B003ITY98O
If you prefer the feel of the Xbox one controller, they make it as well:
https://www.amazon.com/PDP-Afterglow-Prismatic-Wired-Controller-Xbox/dp/B00ZJRHSRW/ref=sr_1_1?srs=3038123011&ie=UTF8&qid=1483457064&sr=8-1&keywords=afterglow+controller+xbox+one
I personally like the Afterglow controllers because they're well built, proportioned correctly, and feel good in the hands. Also, the annoying glow effect can be disabled...there's a button on the back side that changes modes from on constantly, flashing /w rumble, or off completely.
>Mousepad
Ripper XXL, it is huge and cheap. Plus, looks good!
>2.0 speakers
KRK Rokit, huge battlestation favorite.
>Gamepad
The wired Xbox 360 controller is the best, it's also only $30. I am going to get one eventually.
I used it at a small nvidia event thing before it was released, but using the final retail model. I didn't really like it too much, I found the screen was a bit too small for some decent gaming, it was heavier than I expected it to be, the controller doesn't feel like it'd be comfortable for long term use and I overall didn't really get the point of it, as without the use of a VPN and always having a strong 4G LTE connection, you can only use it in your house, you know, the place where your PC is, and it's not like you can stream it from your PC, play on shield, do other stuff on pc (such as another user), overall, there's much cheaper solutions to this, if you have a gameklip and a wireless xbox controller with the dongle and some software called splashtop.
Also, shield requires a minimum of a GTX 660, the DIY version works with anything, except it does only stream at 800x600 (stable) and it only works on games that have borderless windowed (or just windowed, if you can deal with start menus etc), but it's a solution if you only play a few games and have a smartphone.
TL;DR: Screen too small, bit too heavy, uncomfortable to use for long periods of time, cheaper alternative if you don't mind some setbacks
EDIT: Word fail
Protip: You can get one for $25 from Amazon. The only downside to the 360 controller, in my experience, is that the D-pad sucks. Newer models have a better D-pad, but they'll also run you about sixty Earthican buckazoids.
I also have one of these. Games don't tend to discover and auto-configure to it as well as they do with the 360 controller, but it's good, solid hardware. The buttons and analog sticks are precise and it's got a good hand-feel. Most importantly, the left analog stick and D-pad are on what's called a "Cyborg" module. That means you can pop it out and turn it around based on your preference. For instance, if you prefer a Playstation-style layout, you can have it. Hell, for 12 buckazoids and free shipping, it's worth trying.
I highly recommend picking up a wired xbox 360 controller: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wired-Controller-Black/dp/B003ZSN600/
I've saved a significant amount of money by buying games like AC2, Arkham Asylum, GTA IV, and Just Cause 2 on Steam sales instead of waiting for the console version to go on sale. It has definitely paid for itself in that respect.
for the xbox 360 you can find a ion drum rocker brain on ebay
it would take the input from the intruments like a brain and convert it to an xbox 360 controller.
if your drumset has a midiout then https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Rock-Band-Midi-PRO-Adapter/dp/B00409SOD2?th=1
my drumset doesnt actually have a midiout but has a printer like cable out
but i think it requires a drum brain to work. Like most kits would need, the ion one is a brain of its own and connects directly to the pads.
as I said before i had an ion drum rocker at some point so i just used that brain for my good kit up until i started just playing phase shift on pc.

look at this kit btw https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QNBZFTH/ref=dp_cr_wdg_tit_rfb
fucking godlike for the price
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wired-Controller-Black/dp/B003ZSN600/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1301923985&sr=1-1
Buy one of these. Super Meat Boy plays a lot better on it and it's compatible with lots of other games like the Assassin's Creed series and Arkham Asylum. Easily worth the purchase.
OP you dun goofed. You can get RDR for that same price but with all of the DLC which adds 20+ hours of gameplay. Link if anyone is interested. RDR is in my opinion one of the best games this generation and I would recommend it to anyone.
Couple more reasons for the 360 controller:
Most games support it out of the box, and most will replace the UI elements with their respective buttons. So, instead of saying "Press TAB to view the score", it will say "Press (BACK) to view the score" or "Right trigger to shot web" and such.
Off the top of my head I know that Skyrim and NFS: Hot Pursuit support it, along with RFG and just about every GFWL game.
You can also pick up a wired controller if that floats your boat, they work great as well and are slightly more hardy than the wireless FOB.
There's also a couple of variants of the 360 controller, the Onza and the Adjustable D-Pad one that fixes the shitty dpad a little bit.
PC controller: $10-$20

Or you can splurge and get an official 360 controller

if you're playing on an xbox and don't mind a wired controller, get one of these. I got one as a cheap replacement to one a friend broke: it was going to be their controller since she tends to wear out the analog sticks on everything she plays with but I liked it so much that I kept it as mine. I think its actually a bit better than an official controller, especially for fighting games, because its almost identical to a microsoft controller in every way except for a couple: the start and back buttons are placed a bit differently (in a way that I find makes it so that I don't hit them accidentally quite as often) and also the d-pad is tons better: its raised up out of the "well" it sits in. sort of reminds me of sega's old D-pads on the genesis really.
also makes a great pc game controller, since it registers as an xbox controller.
the light is a bit annoying but there is a button on the back to turn it off, or have it only light up whenever the rumbles happen.
I really can't recommend this enough.
Personally I thought they were great. Even though I have a 360 controller, I prefer keyboard + mouse for first-person games. Normally I wouldn't think of playing a platformer without a controller, but I found the default controls on PC to work perfectly and I never had a problem with them. That being said, according to this article you can use a 360 controller with the game. Since you have a PS3 I'm not sure you have a 360 controller lying around but if not I heartily recommend picking one up. If you play a lot of PC games, it's the best $30 you'll ever spend.
Why not try out a fightpad? You won't have to re-learn how to use your controller, and they are very durable!
Here's one I found after a quick amazon search!
I have had a number of friends use them and like them a lot!
I hope this helps bud. Stick in there! FGs are worth it
Hmm, well the best would be top of that range- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Licensed-Tritton-Trigger-Headset/dp/B0057SDCLY/ref=zg_bs_676528011_13 £39.99
For less, these would be pretty good too: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Turtle-Beach-Force-Xbox-Headset/dp/B005EQE0YM/ref=zg_bs_676528011_4
Personally, id pay a little more and get the 39.99 Triton Triggers
Unfortunately, this method doesn't work - at least to my knowledge. I wanted to do the same thing, but it didn't work. Ended up buying a wired 360 controller, and that works like a charm. They're pretty cheap on Amazon right now. http://www.amazon.com/Wired-USB-Controller-Xbox-360-Black/dp/B007LQG9A6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371519436&sr=8-1&keywords=wired+xbox+360+controller
It took me like 2 seconds to find this on amazon. Steam sells it for $19.99 while Mass Effect 2 also goes for $19.99 on steam. Mass Effect isn't some rare fucking gold original Nintendo game that can only be found in certain places. There are plenty of copies of Mass Effect on the market that are going for less than the stated $24.99 so yes it is GameStop, power to the prices.
Edit: To give a better comparison of prices you can get mass effect new for the 360 for $19.99 on amazon. You can get mass effect 2 new for the 360 for $19.96 on amazon. GameStop has mass effect pre-owned for the 360 priced at $29.99 and mass effect 2 pre-owned for the 360 at $17.99.
I haven't tried the Steam version of GTA4, but yeah, when I played the PC version in the past it was completely painless. The 360 controller is supported by default: http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/479429-currently-supported-controllers-for-gta-iv-pc
You'd need something like this if you don't already have a controller. It contains both the controller and the USB wireless adapter. You can also get a normal wired one but for the small price difference, I would go wireless. Just personal preference.
I played on a fightpad before and honestly you can't get any worse than an x360 pad so you might as well get the madcatz fightpad. It's not great in ANY respect, but it's better than the 360 d-pad.
The problem here is, the fightpad is going to break. No question. I haven't seen a single company make a quality fightpad that can withstand even moderate gaming.
With that in mind, I recommend This fightpad and just buy 5 of them. One will last you 3-6 months, but that's 3 months of excellent control due to the microswitches in the directional inputs.
Madcatz fightpad is too expensive.
The Razer Onza and the official first party Microsoft Xbox360 wired controllers are the best ones you can go with. Nearly every game that supports a gamepad supports a 360 controller and its keys.
>Overall, I think $300 is a very fair price for a new system, especially considering that's how much you have to pay to get a decent 360.
No.
Yes, it has laughably little storage. So does the $300 WiiU. The xbox360 uses a laptop-size harddrive in an enclosure, and can be swapped out for a larger one with a little effort. The WiiU appears to be locked down.
It's also worth noting that you can easily get a "decent" xbox360 secondhand.
If the quantity and quality of releases is anything like it was on the Wii, $300 is very steep for something which most people will use sparingly for two years.
Just get a USB 360 controller? My boyfriend and I used a MadCatz until he finally broke it from spin-sticking way too hard. We have the official Microsoft one now, and it's super high quality feeling and stuff.
As for customization, I'm pretty sure you can map the keys however you want so long as the game you're playing allows it. If it doesn't allow it, look into software like Xpadder, which allows you to set any button as any key/key combination on your keyboard.
EDIT: Also, a LOT of controller compatible games (4/5, maybe?) have a default Xbox layout, making Xbox 360 controllers instantly compatible with the game.
You didn't look very hard:
$40 from NewEgg
$50 from Best Buy
$50 from Amazon
Google Shopping Search
I have never paid more than $40 for a year of Xbox Live. It is always available for that much or less. Most recently, I just bought a new one in March for $35 from Best Buy.
a brand new Xbox 360 E is $179 delivered, and comes with a one year warranty and a controller. So if you are buying used, I would not pay more than $90, and for that price, it had better come with the AV cable and at least one good wireless controller.
Of the three styles, I would not buy the originals, mostly because they don't have built-in WiFi. The 360 S for $190 delivered is in my mind the best model, as it has an optical audio out port, an AV cable port (can accept composite, component, and VGA cables), and five USB ports. the 360 E has only four USB ports, no optical audio output, and only composite analog video.
I recommend the Logitech G230 headset, its 7.1 surround and the mic is absolutely stellar compared to my Turtle Beach X12 headset. The mic on it was absolute dog shit, my mates kept hearing echoing in teamspeak. Could have been a faulty headset but i'm well pleased with the upgrade and it's in your price range. It matches my black and red setup like a dream.
Right person! You can buy a midi brain for your selected system from amazon.
Here is for Xbox 360: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00409SOD2/ref=redir_mdp_mobile
Just need a midi cable going from your "midi out" on your actual drum brain going into the rockband brain. The rockband brain then works VIA USB. Works like a charm.

You can find similar products available for purchase currently. Find something like this in-store and check out the feel of the buttons to see if you like it. If you don't like the left stick, don't worry. The MKX ones are actual Dpads, so as long as you enjoy the feel of the buttons you'll be good to go.
as long as you get this edition. it has all the DLC's that have come out (and have paid an extra $60 for collectively) and yes again a fantastic game that still looks beautiful. http://www.amazon.com/The-Elder-Scrolls-Legendary-Xbox-360/dp/B00CJ7IUGS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1372703462&sr=8-3&keywords=skyrim
The first controller that comes to mind for good D Pads on PC would be the Xbox 360 controller with a transforming D Pad. It's a metal D Pad that has a much better design than the original 360 D Pad (the cross part is a lot more concaved and your thumb more easily slides over it). Also you can twist the D Pad itself to have the corner bits drop away so you just have the cross part of the D Pad that your thumb touches. https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Controller-Transforming-Charge/dp/B00936K09S

Pick one and use that instead of a pc, just kidding, but seriously listen servers are awful for any kind of pvp game especially fps games, I have no problem with matchmaking on dedis like csgo, but fuck me if I have to play cod again on listen servers. (Oh and I know you said dedis+ matchmaking, but separating an already small userbase is never a good idea)
I'm curious though, why do you want matchmaking? It can't be the party system because that works on dedis as well, it can't be that it's easier because it's not, you can easily find a server with whatever gamemode you want if you don't care about the connection which you obviously don't since you want to play on listen servers. Afraid of getting kicked by admins? True, that is a problem, but that can easily get fixed by actually using the favorites feature that every good server browser have.
Easiest thing to do would be to buy a wired 360 controller.
The game works perfectly with the 360 controller, no setup required.
If you go the wireless route you do need to purchase a wireless receiver. I bought a cheap knock-off receiver (was a lot cheaper than the official one) but windows doesn't automatically detect it as a 360 controller wireless receiver. You have to do the whole device manager dance to get the correct driver loaded. After that it worked perfectly. I imagine the official wireless receiver will be plug-and-play with windows 10.

I use Xbox 360 controller. It works amazing. Most games have it already setup and the keys map as soon as you plug the controller in.
The controller I use. I honestly hate the keyboard/mouse. (will probably get hate for that) but I cant stand them. I have played on consoles only except for the last year or so and I still love the controller.
Yeh would be good. I assume that's what the next game will allow as well as the usual plastic instruments. They already let you plug any midi electric drum kit into the 360 (using an adapter) and use that for the pro drums, which is awesome - http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Rock-Band-Midi-PRO-Adapter/dp/B00409SOD2
I tried many grips but I wasnt happy with them, so I decided to get these instead - http://www.amazon.com/2-Pack-Controller-Analog-Sticks-Dualshock-OneSoul/dp/B00IZSTNKW they fit DS4 perfectly fine and I can't recommend them more! They don't slip even in long gaming sessions.
Please be warned, to actually change them for the original ones you need to disassemble the controller first - which causes to loose the warranty.
I don't think that PCSX2 and SCPServer are related, since PCSX2 is a PlayStation 2 emulator and SCPServer is a DS4 connector. However, I've read a lot about the usefulness of the PS4 controller for gaming and from what I've read, you're better of using a Xbox controller because microsoft acually supports that. I find it kinda strange that this sub recommended you the PS4 controller since steam doesn't fully support it, while is does support a Xbox controller for most games.
You might want to sell your PS4 controller on Ebay and check if there are any cheap Xbox controllers for sale, or look at some aftermarket controllers like this one
I myself bought the console because I was a peasant and now I just use it for some exclusives and now and then to use the controllers on my pc.
I have one friend who plays all the time. That might just be enough.
And ok! Would this be a good way to go about it?

It'll be difficult to find a headset for sub-$50. I have the Turtle Beach X12s which are a little old but sound great and have sidetone, which some more expensive headsets like the Hyper X Cloud II's do not have.

Find a PDP Wired Legacy Adapter for a reasonable price and buy it. You cannot use eKits on the XB1 without it and it's a fairly scarce item. It's a very sobering state of affairs.

Very neat contest! Thanks and good luck!
No problem man, if you remember the ocean marketing debacle it had to do with the company that ran PR for the Avenger controller. Nothing to do with the Avenger company though.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0089OBLDO/ref=aw_d_detail?pd=1
Found a link for an adapter that should let you use an Xbox controller for ps3
You will have to get a corded 360 controller found here
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003ZSN600
And if course the Avenger found on their website.
Sorry I couldn't format links, I'm on mobile.
And I almost forgot. Tell your friend good luck on the road to recovery, and to be glad he has a buddy like johngoodmansanus!
You just need a wired XBox360 controller.
Check GameStop. I found a used one for $20.
Google: [XBox360 controller driver] once you have it... You are good to go. Many games recognize the controller and even give you tutorials using the gamepad layout. (Dungeon Defenders, On Live games, and more.)
For everything else, get Xpadder (old version free - newest version ~$15) ... you can map any buttons to your gamepad. Really useful for flash games.
It's much better, but also more expensive. If you are willing to expand your budget that much, go for it.
Here's one I put together. Still bigger than your budget, but not as much.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jNjp9W
No need for a CPU cooler, the stock one will work just fine. Cheaper RAM, cheaper GPU (that would still be able to play those games).
Also the controller like in the Alienware link isn't $150. Amazon has it for $35.
Alright then. I despise fighting with uncooperative software, so I'll pony up for a new/mostly new wired X360 controller.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527705063&sr=1-5&keywords=xbox+360+controller+wired+pc

Would you say either of these would work? Is one better than the other? I'd be getting the second offer on the one only available from third parties so there wouldn't be a big difference in price.
Really appreciate the help either way.
Mouse: Logictech G502. It is widely considered to be the "best" mouse for PC enthusiasts.
Keyboard: Will heavily depend on your preferences, but I have a DASKeyboard 4 Ultimate with Cherry MX Blues (tactile click). I have also heard nice things about the Corsair K70, and Strafe. If you are new to mechanical keyboards, I would recommend checking out the subreddit /r/mechanicalkeyboards for more information.
Headset: I just use an old set of Turtle Beach X12s I've had forever, because I usually just use my soundbar, but a buddy of mine prefers to use a desk mic and some Audio-Technica headphones.
EDIT: Saw your budget in the other comments. You should probably go with the Strafe for your keyboard. Most others below $100 aren't as high of quality. Personally, I think you should get the Strafe, the G502, and the headphones/mic combo.
The easiest (and probably cheapest) option would be to get the new 360 controller
If you didn't know, the d-pad can actually transforms from the disc into a traditional plus d-pad. Probably your easiest and cheaper option. If you know who Fanatiq is (a pad player of MvC2 fame), he uses this pad when playing MvC3 and said that he loves it.
If all else fails, I suggest you hit up Tech Talk on SRK. I'm sure someone will have an answer for you there.
I got these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IZSTNKW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Love em, fit perfect and everything works but with much better grip.
http://xpadder.com/ will let you map the controller's buttons to whatever you want.
If you want to invest in a better controller then the Xbox 360 wired controller is the way to go. Most Games for Windows titles have built in support and it's also reasonably durable and comfortable.
One of these guys:

Microsoft-branded wireless adapters require almost zero setup on Win 7+. Plug it in, give it a few seconds to find/install the hardware, sync controller, done. (and then you're ready to add up to 3 more controllers, easy peasy)
EDIT: If you're going with wired, get the Xbox One controller. Plugs in with the included microUSB charging cable, detects instantly, bam.
This is correct. I bought these two from Amazon US:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00409SOD2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDJWJH9/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And this cable from UK:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00EYB8KC6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The MIDI adapter came all sticky like it was covered in glue (despite being packaged as new), which seems common in the reviews which is a bit annoying, but since it came from the US( I'm in the UK) I couldn't be bothered returning it; works perfectly!
If you have a midi drumset, buy one of these:

I have one and for the price it's fucking awesome and let's you use your actual set. As for guitar, Les Paul from GH3 is the best but it's hard to find a good one for cheap. I'd recommend creeping on craigslist as sometimes people will sell them without the intention of screwing you over.
ill just leave this here
also if you have a gamecube/wii i'd recommend twin snakes instead of the original if you can find it, it's a remake of the ps1 original metal gear solid with better graphics and gameplay (imo).
This may have been asked a bunch already so I apologize if that’s the case but I don’t browse this sub super often. I want to take advantage of the Microsoft game pass deal and get 2 years for $120 plus the $1 conversion or whatever. Can I just buy two of these 12 month gift cards on amazon, activate them on my pc, and then convert it for $1? Is there anything else to it?

Fuck yeah! Glad to finally see these! Links just in case
Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 $19.99 - Digital - http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/MGS-2-AND-3/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024b4e0840

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection - Physical, Amazon $20 USD, includes all 3
I would like to get this from my wishlist. It's not strictly a PC thing but as I don't own a Xbox 360 and I am trying to get into PC gaming, this controller would be helpful. And I'll still be able to use it once I get a new computer next year.
Hello, Goodbye~. And thank you very much!
not really that great of a deal
Total Cost - $73.72
Also I didn't look that hard but on most of those I'm sure even better deals could be found. I do see the merit in paying a little extra to get it all in one package and also have the convenience of buying from a store and avoiding the wait for shipping.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0050SYOOA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1371789968&sr=8-1&pi=SL75
I hope this link helps, (on my phone) not sure what to do to help with the first MGS with just the 360. I'll get back to you if I learn anything new. Have fun!
I picked on up at an EB Games -- PDP MVC3 Fightpad Pro ($20 for a returned unit). I think the XBOX/Microsoft store also carried them, at around $35 each, wired.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Versus-Controller/dp/B0051MQJWU
So it's not a d-pad -- it actually has actuators to sense when the analog-like stick has gone past certain activation points (with a click) -- it's actually digital inputs.
I prefer dpads, having played on SNES controllers back on the day -- things like dashing (F,F) motions are harder on this pad, and would be easier on a dpad.
Cool, I might try that thanks.
EDIT: Found a deal on Amazon for $40, don't think I'll get much better than that:
https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Live-Month-Gold-Membership/dp/B002VBWIP6/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1466179639&sr=1-1&keywords=xbox+live+gold
Do it! Amazon has the entire trilogy for $30. For me personally, the Mass Effect series, Bioshock series, and Skyrim were my absolute favorite games from that generation. If you play nothing else you should at least play those.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050SYBL6
I own an Afterglow for Xbox 360. It's a pretty good controller, but I don't like the fact that it's smooth plastic. I get sweaty palms when I game a lot and that makes for a slippery controller.
Now I'm using a Steam Controller for all of my PC gaming. I like it, but it definitely took some getting used to.
I'd recommend just buying a wired brand name controller. Everything is plug and play these days, so you'll have no problem setting it up.
I only have one controller and it's this. I would play with the controller and my girlfriend would play with the keyboard. But, I know you can play with all controllers because when you play local co-op you have to go into a menu and choose which player uses which controller.
Awesome! Got this one right here. Thanks to everyone!
Mass Effect 1 was on every "if you own an xbox 360, you should probably play this game" list back when I bought my xbox a few years ago.
You can get Mass Effect 1 for $17 at Gamestop or $15 (with shipping) at Amazon and Mass Effect 2 for $18 at Gamestop or $15 with shipping at Amazon
$30 for two great games that will last this long is a steal. I think each of my ME1 playthroughs was about 40 hours, and I played it a total of 4 times, and my ME playthroughs were about 50, although I only played that thrice.
The PDP Afterglow is a solid bet. It's a cabled Xbox 360 controller that I personally find to have better ergonomics than the traditional 360 controller. D-pad on it is a damned sight better than the regular Xbox 360 controller's as well.
The Hori Gempad is another cheap option, and I can personally attest that the D-pad on the controller is fantastic for 2D fighters like SFV or Arc System Works games.
That said, corded official Xbox 360 controllers are like $15-$20 on Amazon. They're fine for 3D games but the D-pad is garbage.
If money isn't a problem, I'm happy with this setup though it's a bit more expensive than is necessary:
The more expensive "play and charge" version doesn't require swapping batteries, you just plug it in to recharge (where it becomes a regular Wired controller so you can still use it), and that's worth the extra $20 to me. The squid-grips, when applied properly, make holding the controller more comfortable.

I use one of those for my emulators and some controller games. Mine is actually a better model than that, but they don't seem to carry mine anymore. It's good, not great, but still one of the better handheld controllers available.
Basically a wireless 360 or PS3 controller needs some sort of wireless receiver connected to your PC to work. The wired 360 ones are plug and play, however.
Your best bet is to suck it up and get a wired 360 controller as that and the wireless receiver are pretty close in price, and you would have an extra controller.
Love how the description is a lie.
>New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.
Also that's no where near $75 value,
Controller $38
Shell kit (You didn't even use a full shell kit either) - $8.50
So what you're saying is $31.50 is in labor? I modded three controllers in less than an hour.
TL;DR
Go rip people off elsewhere.
Edit: Maybe OP paid $18 for the combo deal on this.
If he likes movies then these:
I would also recommend the Orange Box if he doesn't have it for PC already.
The best orange thing :)
I don't have any way of playing videogames (except for my trusty Gameboy Color) but when I did, I played Half Life 2 over and over
You can get them pretty cheap nowadays. There's always ebay and craigslist if $13 is too much. Or you could check out /r/hardwareswap or even /r/pcmasterrace, I'm sure they could help you get away from consoles.
I welcome any corrections. It's hard to read everything that's in there:
TOTAL price: $6058 USD
Edit: updates
For those who don't like BestBuy, or want free delivery, Amazon seems to be matching it: http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-IV-Black-Flag-Xbox/dp/B00BMFIXT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397409778&sr=8-1&keywords=black+flag
Edit: I mean free delivery with Prime for those who have it.
The 360 has a new D-pad for it's silver version: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Silver-Controller-Play-Charge/dp/B0041HROGG
It's VERY nice. It has a strong click when you press the directions.
This is what I use. https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Amplified-Stereo-Headset-PC/dp/B005EQE0YM
It has inline volume controls as well as a bass control. Speakers and mic are both great. It has 3.5mm jacks for the speakers and mic. Can't beat the price.
Track clip works fine with this.
There is!
Definitely start with the first one and remember that your character carries over through out the series. Also remember to clear about 200 hours from your schedule over the next few months to play.
Buy it right now. 360, PS3. Also, the Undead Nightmare expansion is also fantastic. It is one of my favorite DLCs of all time. It is up there with Old World Blues (F:NV) and The Ballad of Gay Tony (GTAIV)
Never mind I looked for it and apparently I was smoking crack. The design is different, but there's no mention of the dpad being improved in any way.
And never mind. It looks like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00936K09S
It doesn't swivel anymore it's straight cardinal direction inputs.
Gamestop has bundles on their web page. With these bundles you are not saving very much any how. I saw a PS4 bundle that you get $10 of a year of PS+; but can easily find just as good of deals for XBL
In fact AMAZON is selling 12 months for $49.79 right now.
Yes you should play the first one before the second.
And yes it is available on the xbox360. Amazon
I prefer the PC version.
I have some great news then, because you can play that and the DLC for just $14 right now and Rockstar can put their resources toward something we don't already have!
I got these because of the positive reviews, but haven't received them yet.

What are your thoughts on the Xbox One controller and where can you get one that looks that amazing?
I play a lot of twin stick shooters and platformers and my Afterglow 360 controller I got for $20 2 years ago just isn't cutting it anymore.
i personally have this headset [currently ~38$] and think its good value for the $40 i paid. mic quality is great and is very adjustable. earpiece quality isnt the best (or the worst ;) ), but gets quite loud so you can wear the headset around your neck if you want.
there is a slightly cheaper version [~30$] which is similar but i havent used personally but looks like it would get the job done.
I can imagine a world as such a game player. I would be brand new to Skyrim, only have a Switch, and still be pretty upset that it's the most expensive version of that game while being the technically inferior one (except to maybe the aptly priced PS3/360 versions?). I have said as much and have also said that's the crappiest position to be in; it's a captive audience. I would be asking "why?" more often looking at the price discrepancies I have seen browsing the store.
It's called empathy.
Your post essentially admits that a "Switch Tax" exists due to the system being new and popular. And is that fair or right? I posit no. You say yes simply because "they got you by the short 'n' curlies."

These aren't very expensive and are pretty good

TOTAL: $48.94
I noticed K-Mart has the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for $35. I was briefly interested, but Amazon has it for $30 with free shipping right now.
160 GB PS3 slim is $250.
4GB XBOX 360 is $200.
If you have to go out and then buy a separate blu ray player, it looks like a great deal to me.
Bought a Destiny bundle few weeks ago. I replaced my analog sticks with these Xbone thumb sticks. I wasn't experiencing any issues, but I highly recommend swapping the original ones for these ones - more grip and a tiny bit taller
It's cheaper on Amazon and eligible for free prime shipping. Does anyone know of a good headset that uses a USB port rather than the audio jack? The audio jack on my laptop is on the fritz.
For single player games, consider picking up a wired Xbox 360 controller to play with. That way you get the control scheme that your prefer as well as the bonus of a higher resolution/better graphics/mods/etc. I wouldn't recommend it for multiplayer though--for obvious reasons.
I bought the Xbox ones off Amazon and it's the best $10 I've ever spent... Seriously, the difference is huge and they feel so much more durable.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IZSTNKW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1414653434&sr=8-1
not sure what could be considered non-gaming. but I picked these up and they work great
I'd personally just purchase a Wired Xbox 360 controller and also an USB extension cord on the side. No need for batteries, the controller is great, it's cheap and it's more or less the easiest solution
Mass Effect 1 and 2 if she is in to those sort of games. 1 should already be fairly cheap and 2 is on sale at amazon today.
Any other info on what types of games she likes to play?
This is an amazing giveaway! So after too long rocking my 360 and landing my dream job, I'm buying an xbox one s this friday with my first paycheck so I can finally be in the loop. Might as well give this a shot so I can enjoy it as much as possible!

I may be kicking myself for not being able to think of anything more "high stakes" but I know I can't go wrong with this. Also, congrats OP!
This is the newer model with the improved D-Pad (and the description claims improved shoulder buttons, as well).
I don't think this has a wired variant.
I never liked the original dpad on the 360 controller. It pretty much ruined fighting games on the Xbox for me. I've always found the best way to test a dpad on an emulator is to boot up Contra and try and hold right/down so your character runs to the right while aiming diagonally down in front of him. If he lays down or just runs to the right, the controller isn't going to work. If you're looking for another Xbox controller you could spend another $40-$50 on an 8-way dpad. I recommend a dualshock 3 (Sony) controller if you have one, as the dpad is far more responsive.
Not really for D-pad reliant games, though. Despite having the best overall controller, the 360's D-pad is a mushy POS. For modern games that focus on analog sticks, a 360 controller is perfect, but for older games that rely on a D-pad I use an SNES controller with one of these.
EDIT: MS did release a pro controller with a twist-out better D-pad, but it is $50 separately and can't really be considered the official 360 controller when it's not packed in with the system.
Yeah, anything like this will work, just has to be an actual wired controller. Wireless controllers with charge and play cables don't work without the wireless receiver.
I just bought one the other day. If it's not available in stores, online is a pretty good option.
In that case, save up a few bucks and buy a nitro mesh kit. A million times better than a rb kit, if you even find one.
Then you just need the midi adapter and a midi cable
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BW1XJGP
Xbox 360 Rock Band 3 Midi PRO-Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00409SOD2
I have it and love it. The morphing d-pad isn't that helpful because it is still just a disk that moves the exact same as the normal controller. The main reason I wanted it was for the sticks; instead of the bumps that wear out for grip it has an entire ridge around. They don't wear out and feel much better on my thumbs.
Those worried about price; you can get it on amazon for $45.
