Reddit mentions: The best xbox one batteries & chargers

If you need recommendations, since 2013 I've been simultaneously switching between the official MS plug & play kit and the Insignia branded version (from Best Buy), both of these are excellent IMO; the MS branded pack is 1400 mAh (that's your charging capacity), while the Insignia is 1200 mAh, but the difference is hardly noticeable. And they still hold a charge like a champ.

Recently, I've added the AmazonBasics brand battery packs to my arsenal. Depending on your console model and entertainment center setup, they have a nifty charger that plugs right into your Xbox and nearly looks like a part of the system. I managed to pickup the version of the charger meant for the original Xbox One on a steep sale, and even though I had to get creative to use the charger itself, it was still 2 battery packs for the cost of one of the other single battery kits--and all of these battery packs are capable of being charged through the controller (or through the AmazonBasics charger, btw).

Regarding the headset, if you have the money, I'd suggest the Turtle Beach Ear Force XO Seven.

This is a GREAT setup, and very reasonably priced. It is a great way to store your controllers. If your controller drops out, just swap and you are back in the game. You can charge extra battery packs solo, if you and a friend are playing 24/7.

I was looking for a decent controller charger / battery charger as I already have the play and charge kit. I have two controllers.

I had an ORB one for the 360 but the battery life tended to be poor with the custom batteries, so I grabbed this officially licensed one (as Amazon advertised), and it's pretty good.

Normal battery life, but as I have two controllers I just take one off and put the other one on charge. You can also push down on the edges of the charging stand to have the controllers just 'sit there' instead of being charged, really useful. Batteries seem great so far. Not particularly cheap though.

Another option is a rechargeable battery plug. You plug it into the wall and just put your rechargeable batteries into it. They're not exactly expensive. Edit: There's also those USB rechargeable batteries, they look cool, but I haven't tried them.

I have this one and it's great. I didn't spend anywhere near $35 though. My store sells them for $25 normally and it was $10 off so $15 for two battery packs and the dock is pretty good. Plus it glows green and looks pretty cool.

You don't need Kinect or the Xbox One S. Just get the regular Xbox One with a controller... might be bundled with some games, if that's the cheaper option.

The console does not come with a controller recharger -- it just has batteries. Recommended games for him: Halo Master Chief Collection, Halo 5. Final Fantasy XV is coming out Sept 30th but it will be cheaper if you wait a while to get it. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is pretty cheap right now, but it doesn't have the best reviews -- it started off as a handheld game, so it's not a huge game.

Games are going to be way cheaper used on Amazon than in any stores. You can buy an Amazon gift card with cash at a store and use that to buy stuff on Amazon.

Eneloops are probably the best or the Amazon basics which are the same thing. Those are the best if you just want rechargeable AA batteries.

But... I prefer the Nyko rechargeable battery and charge dock. Just drop your controller on here when your done and never worry about it again. I have this charger and have never run the battery out in a single play session.

There's actually a first party battery pack (manufactured and sold by Microsoft). My router is really powerful and causes some interference when playing wireless, so for games that require a lot of precise inputs like fighting games, I play wired. For games like FFXIV, I play wireless so I can recline back and zone out since a few lost inputs aren't the end of the world.

there's only one micro-usb port in the top. the bottom is a jack for headphones and a plug for controller accessories (such as xb1 keypad)

I've used it for years with my original controller and it dawned on me (after I bought the S Controller) that it probably had a second battery. I'm pretty sure you can just plug it in and use it without batteries. It uses a micro-usb cable, not a proprietary one.

If you don't want to use batteries, you can just use this official battery from Microsoft. Then the controller will be rechargeable like a Dualshock 4. It also comes with a micro-usb cable.

Here is a scenario as to why... you are playing a game, really getting into it, when your controller turns off due to runing out of "juice".

With rechargables, you switch out the batteries, and continue to play just like before.

With charge kit, you have to plug in your controller, so you are now using a controller hooked to your console. I, personally, don't like that.

To get an xbox one controller to play wirelessly on PC you need this one. It comes with a dongle.

I just got that one and the play and charge kit, which gives you a recharging battery pack for it. The pack will only charge if you use the micro USB cable that came with the kit, FYI. I felt like a dunce when I finally figured out that's why it wasn't charging,

I'm a big fan of this dock. It's a pretty simple design and can be expanded to hold up to four controllers for different consoles. The xbox one variety comes with a rechargeable battery pack that fits in where the AA's would go.

Only complaint is the LED charging/charged indicator is a bit too bright.

You will save money on batteries and the battery life of a fully charged pack last about about 2 weeks with daily use. Plus you can charge while playing so no more annoying waits and quick dashes out to the shop to get more batteries. I’ve probably saved way more than £50 on batteries with rechargeable battery packs.

As for the headset the Astro A10 is a great headset.

It’s way worth it’s money as the sound quality and microphone is great not like the over sensitive microphone and shitty audio on cheap £20 headsets. It’s durable as fuck as well, mine has survived horrible abuse and it’s still in perfect condition and I’ve gone through about 5 cheap headsets including Xbox official ones. It’s comfy to wear too.

Actually, it looks like the issue was with the rechargeable battery pack I am using (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DBDPOZ4/).

I put some regular AA batteries in, and problem solved. Nothing obviously wrong with battery pack, and I didn’t have this issue with the One S.

I vote for the play and charge kit. first, the official one uses a Lithium Ion battery, which is nice. second, swapping batteries in the middle of a gaming session is less convenient than plugging a cord in.

this controller with the optional accessory is the best i have came across so far.

it doesn't remove your ability to swap batteries on the fly, but you could still have a set that is easily charged without popping them out of the controller. I rarely play more than 2 to 3 hours at a time, and then they sit overnight. Dropping them on a charging dock would make life simple. With this solution I doubt I would ever run out during mid play.

That's why you have at least two sets. One set always fully charged in the wall charger, and the other set in your controller. It takes like 10-20 seconds to swap batteries.

Here's an Energizer set that includes a wall charger and four AA batteries for about $16. I used to use the Xbox One Play and Charge Kit, but it only has one pack, is more expensive ($25-$30), and I've found that those packs tend to wear down quicker than regular batteries. And there are a ton of people here who swear by Eneloop rechargeable batteries, but they're more expensive than the Energizer/Duracell options ($26-$36).

Don’t know why they don’t come with the powerpack. Just bought it from amazon and like it compared to changing out batteries every week. Also have usb/electrical outlets in house, so no need to plug into console for use.

Edit: the only downside is the USB cord it comes with is very short, so you’ll probably want to use/get a longer one. There is no AC adapter.

It worked well for a couple months, and then stopped working. I emailed their support and they sent me a shipping label to ship it back to them. 3 days after they received it, i got a new one at my door.

Weird. AA batteries should last you at least 30 hours of use with no headset. I personally use a play and charge kit and get really good battery life. Highly recommend it, not specifically for increasing battery life (though it may help if you're having some weirdness), but for saving money and convenience since you never have to get disposable batteries again.

I'd highly recommend the nyko charging dock. It comes with a dock and 2 recharge packs (one for each controller). I've been using it for several months now and get plenty of battery life on both batteries.

Actually don't buy that. It comes with the old style controller , it's actually cheaper to buy one of the new S style controller (better bumpers, bluetooth, headphone jack, and textured grip) and the play and charge kit separately, here's the links for those:

I use the nyko - dual controller charging dock. I like it, as it is narrow and long; so it fits in tighter places even with both controllers docked.

It isn't rechargeable as the standard. It will require 2 AA batteries like the 360 controller. You can purchased a plug and charge kit for about 25 dollars that will come with a recharging battery pack. In the box I assume it will come with a set of AA's to get you going.

Also to note though that the connection to charge your controller will be a standard micro usb connection, so you can use your controller as a wired controller without batteries if you are so inclined to do so. I am not sure if the micro usb cable is included, but if you have ever owned a smart phone (besides the iphone) in the last 3 or 4 years I am sure you have one lying around.

I have the dream gear dock and it comes with the two rechargeable battery packs and since the dock requires the controller to be upside down, you can just place the battery on the dock without a controller. I have a couple of controllers using either the Xbox battery or standard rechargeable Ni-MH AA batteries. Both work great and last a long time between charges. Just avoid buying generic battery packs on eBay. I have had nothing but problems with them.

If you haven't gotten one yet, I use a rechargeable battery pack with the charge cable. This way you can play if your controller runs low on juice instead of just charging and waiting.

Be sure to look at the options that are out there. I personally use one by Nyko, and bought a charge base for it. It doesn't require any plugging in using the micro-USB (thus saving your micro-USB cords from wear n' tear), and is very convenience. When I'm done playing, I literally just set the controller on the base and it starts charging. No fuss, no muss.

I think its the dock thats broken, as soon as I put them on to charge the charging light goes on for a half second then thats it. It has two separate places to put the controller to charge and neither of them work. I have a portable charger but no cable to connect it to the controller, so I was just curious to see if it'd work before I go out and buy one

While I would prefer it to come with the charging grip, let's not pretend Nintendo is alone in this.

At least the JoyCons can be charged without extra investment at all. The same cannot be said about an Xbox One controller. And I own three of them.

I have nothing but good things to say about the nyko one. It lights up a controllers corresponding front panel to indicate when charging starts, the battery packs last for hours and hours and hours and nothing about the setup is gaudy or obnoxious.
