I lived in the old Zoroastrian center of Iran as a Peace Corps Volunteer, and found out first hand that much of what has been written about Zoroastrians isn't really true. I recommend works by Mary Boyce. She was in Iran about ten years before I got there and many of the Zoroastrians I knew had been interviewd by her, even though I never got to meet her.

I would also refer you to r/Zoroastrianism, which I moderate.

Many of the new converts to Zoroastrianism are coming in Iran, Iraq, and Syria, especially among Kurds.
