I'm not sure how well known this is any more, but there used to be a half decent music scene in Blacksburg. After the accident at The Solar Haus the town put a lock down on house shows and pretty much strangled what momentum there was. Still, there are some cool things that have come from their recently like the Wild Nothing record.

Get Rocked Out used to be a good way to find out about shows and meet other musicians, and a quick look shows there's still some light activity on their boards. It's not totally homogeneous, but there is a strong slant toward DIY/punk/hardcore 'round those parts.

If you or anyone in that scene need a good engineer to make a record, PM me it would be a fun excuse to come back to the burg. Epiphenomena by The Science was recorded at VT's studio and the mixed with my rig.

Good luck in your search!

One of my favorite bands is The Goo Goo Dolls. My favorite lyrics from them are from the song Iris - "I'd give up forever to touch you 'cause I know that you feel me somehow. You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be and I don't want to go home right now". That is my and my Honey-Bunny's song. He's my better half :) We even named our cat Iris.

If I win, I'd love Unwell by Matchbox Twenty. Thank you for the contest!

The PS4 looks amazing, but I think I'm going to sway a bit more over the Xbox One's side just because my nieces and nephews like to use the Kinect and Xbox Live. Plus, I can keep gaming with my friends! :)

This song would be awesome!

Thanks for the contest!

  1. This is what first came to mind when you mentioned "sweaty". It's a great way to get some exercise without having to go outside and get super sweaty from the heat alone!

  2. Cool down, you say? I was looking for cool ice molds when I found this. I actually really want some of these someday. Not for whiskey as intended, but it would still look cool in any drink.

  3. No picnic would be complete without THIS! I'm lazy when it comes to picnics, I'd much prefer to just get food to go and then go sit in a park and eat it. All the fun, none of the cooking/cleanup.

  4. There's no question of where I'd want to go. My mom and I have been talking about our trip to Italy "someday" since I was a toddler.

  5. This sums up my childhood perfectly. I was not a very outgoing child, and I didn't have many friends. But HP was my link to a wonderful, open world with so many friends and possibilities.

  6. I would bring one of these for everyone camping with us. I'm trying to think of a logical reason why, but I can't come up with one because I'm laughing too much. Let's just say because it would be freaking hilarious.

  7. This is adorable and I want one someday. It probably wouldn't help against wildfires, but who knows?

  8. This is totally my pump-up song What's better to get the whole car dancing and singing along?

  9. This would not be a good idea to bring along. I'm also kind of scared of what watchlist I'm on now for searching that.

  10. Two years ago, I got to see this wonderful group at my state fair. I still remember that concert every time I think of summer.

Ah, summer...Some of the best memories are made in flip flops.

Congrats Emma and Will !

My dad loves the Beatles, and before we went on vacation to the beach one year, my dad bought Paul McCartney's new album at the time Flaming Pie. It was (and still is) GREAT traveling music. . . "Great Day" is my favorite! Now, even with my own family, if we go on a long car trip, we have to listen to this album :-).

Here's an MP3 I would like :-)

I actually used to be a Christian Dj a long time ago, and I've kept up with the music (I actually haven't had time in the last year, so some of this may be older, but hyperlinks to Amazon are included - I'm sure most are on iTunes as well). I broke them down by what I consider the top 6 genres of music that MOST people listen to - I excluded genres like classical, chanting, opera, country, etc. These are all Christian artists that happen to love making music that I enjoy. Many of these artists have additional albums, but I linked the ones I know I like. EXPLORE!!!

Recommendation: hold down the left Control button when you click on a link so it opens in another tab. ;)

I hope I'm not the only Beatles fan who absolutely loved The Rutles!

For anyone who doesn't know, The Rutles were a Beatles parody band created by Eric Idle of Monty Python fame in the 70s, and it's exactly what it sounds like: The history and music of the Beatles as portrayed by Monty Python, George Harrison even makes a cameo.

Most of there songs ran parallel to Beatles ones, for example, the Beatles had Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Rutles had Major Happy's Up-And-Coming Once Upon A Good Time Band, The Beatles did Dear Prudence, The Rutles did Let's Be Natural, John Lennon did Imagine, the Rutles did Cheese and Onions in the Style of Yellow Submarine.

If you're a fan of the Beatles, the check out the film, "All You Need is Cash" when you can.

Also, Three Little Birds is in my media wishlist, It's one of my favorites
