What exactly is erotic hypnosis? |The answer is going to seem rather sarcastic but basically hypnosis used to create an erotic context.
|To expand a tiny bit its using hypnosis to open up the mind and open up alternative sexual areas. This can be anything from BDSM-esq control to more intriguing things like living out fantasies like a dream so they feel real in every way.
|I hope that covers it, it is a rather wide question, I mean everyone has their own detailed definition dependent on their own methods/wants and other stuff.
So it's live ASMR porn.|I guess so!
|I would say there is a lot more to it than that but it is a good way of looking at it.
|I mean hypnosis is a means to an end, the actual fun comes once they are under and you get to fiddle in their heads.
So instead of putting them to sleep you control them? I can see that, your voice, although male, was pretty strong |For some clients it is about control and hypnosis is a fantastic tool for controlling someone in a consensual way and helping create a feeling of powerlessness.
|And thank you, its odd I don't see my own voice as strong, maybe its just because I am used to it.
Unrelated question, how does someone learn your skills?are there any books out there on how to talk to people like that?|Not really, I mean I have a background in theater and Improv which is very handy as it teaches you to think on your feet and convey emotion via the voice.
|I bet there is a book somewhere on talking dirty or how to be a PSO but I have never read it, nor do I think it would be that useful, each client is different and you have to just fly by the seat of your pants.
|However, you have me curious and for "Phone Sex Guide" Amazon has this I have no idea if it is any good but might be worth a shot if you are desperate.

This could be depression. It may be time for a med adjustment. I'd call your pdoc.

The other possibility is that you are not on a course in life that you really want to be on. This is what happened to me. I was going to enter the family business selling life insurance. I could not for the life of me motivate myself to work. This was when I was in a normal mood cycle too.

I'm convinced that I didn't have motivation because my higher (subconscious) self just really didn't want to sell insurance. I finally had to face facts and admit to myself that I simply couldn't motivate myself in this line of work. I ended up getting a sales job at a shoe store that paid hourly. There is no motivation needed for that kind of job.

I worked that job until one day I had an epiphany. I realized that I wasn't going anywhere in life, and since I couldn't motivate myself to do something I didn't want to do, I had nothing to lose by following my heart. I have always loved to write. That was the path I would follow.

So I began to research ways to make a living writing while I was still working at the shoe store. I came across a novel type of writing that I had never heard of before: copywriting. Copywriting is basically writing ads and other sales materials. I got a book on copywriting, and it was super interesting. I started to study in my spare time while still working at the shoe store.

I found that I had motivation to work now. I really believe it is because my subconscious wanted a creative outlet. It is known that bipolar people are highly creative. There have been a lot brilliant bipolar writers, musicians, actors, actresses, and artists. In my opinion, I think it's very important for bipolar people to have a creative outlet for their inner creative energy. I think if someone doesn't have this, they will suffer depression.

Eventually I was able to quit the shoe store job and be a freelance copywriter full time. Anyone who is interested in becoming a freelance writer you need to this book: The Well Fed Writer.

Resources I've found helpful for marketing (some of these are more relevant for romance than erotica):

Write to Market - Chris Fox

Launch to Market - Chris Fox

Six Figure Author - Chris Fox

Reader Magnets - Nick Stephenson

Derek Murphy's YouTube channel--if you browse around his videos, he covers a lot of different aspects of self publishing. The principles of: covers, blurbs, titles, how to launch a book, et cetera. It's kind of like having a friend to talk to who has a few more years knowledge than you.

The Perfect Year - JA Huss (a series of videos by a romance author on how to launch your romance)

JA Huss' Top Five Tips blog posts--have some useful stuff on marketing.

Naughty Ink - Jamie Fuchs (some good erotica specific marketing tips).

Libbie Hawker on blurb writing.

For covers, get Photoshop CC and Google around for YouTube videos on the basics, then follow cover design principles from Derek Murphy videos or whatever other videos you find and like. (Or, if you're writing romance, do market research then hire a cover designer.)

Alburger's book is a solid one to start with.

There's also my free eBook that is a much more practical look at how to get started.

For character stuff, check out "Voice-Over Voice Actor: What It's Like Behind the Mic" by Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt

For the business side of things, Paul Strikwerda's "Making Money In Your PJs: Freelancing for Voice-Overs and Other Solopreneurs" is a great book. Paul is a super nice guy and the way he writes is smart, snarky and funny.

I actually paid for the hardcover version of this book (due to the bulk of positive reviews (I should have read the one-star blurbs) and found it almost entirely without value for me, and overloaded with cheerleading BS and vague but obvious platitudes. This may be due to my own cynical nature and not due to SEO and hype, so in order to let you evaluate it, here's the TL:DR.

Part 1. Beliefs - Stop making excuses and engaging in self-defeating behavior; figure out what you want to do and do it. (This covers the first three chapters and 48 pages, and includes gems like "I thrive in making, building and participating in clear win-win situations because that is my internal rule.")

Part 2. The TPE Focus - Focus, innovate on the basis of quality, price, or convenience, know your customer, and apply consistent efforts, goals and metrics. (This covers 2 chapters and 44 pages and includes such gems as "The TP Entrepreneur is always ready to manage when challenges come up, as they inevitably do.")

Part 3. Action - Get started, say no to things that won't help you, and get the important things done. (This chapter covers 2 chapters and 29 pages and includes such gems as "Moving forward is not based on your past; your future is exclusively determined by the decisions you make now, in this moment.")

Part 4. Money & Equity - Hustle, borrow, trade, avoid giving personal guarantees, and don't give equity to other people. (This covers 3 chapters and 33 pages and includes such gems as "Cash is the lifeflow of your business. I think it's hard to argue otherwise.")

There's more, but those are the essentials. (There aren't many more details, just lots more gems like those quoted above.)

The few hours spent reading this book would be better spent on your business.

TL:DR of the TL:DR - Skip the book, start your business, don't do dumb things or associate with bad people.

> A Filthy Book In a Fancy Dress, will help you format your ebooks and make them more appealing: https://www.amazon.com/Filthy-Book-Fancy-Dress-Formatting-ebook/dp/B00WIPMMEC

I'm planning on buying Vellum before my next book, and I'm hoping that will take care of formatting for me. Maybe wistful thinking...

I'll read through this. I'm only in Amazon, so some of the information might not be relevant, but I always find a few gems of info. Great that it's in KU!

Thanks for the links.

As far as numbers go, my first book had pretty similar results for the first week or so it was out, I think that's alright for a new author with no presence at all on the market. At least I wouldn't start really worrying about the numbers until I got a bunch of books out there

For the rest, as mentioned by the other people, your book probably needs reworking / rebranding. It doesn't scream "erotica" in the way it's commonly understood

Have you read all the guides in the sidebar?

Also, I'd recommend giving this a read https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L8ERJVU

I know there's plenty other guides out there but this one seemed really good for beginners. At least if you'd read it you wouldn't be getting the replies you've had so far in this thread :p

I've read a lot of business books in the past year. These include:

7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Rich Dad Poor Dad

Think and Grow Rich

How to Win Friends & Influence People

Secrets of Closing the Sale

How to Master the Art of Selling

The E-Myth Revisited

The Compound Effect

The Slight Edge

The $100 Startup

The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur

I have 4HWW waiting to be read, in addition to about 15 other books that are sitting there, waiting to be read.

The $100 Startup is very inspiring, especially for people who have no chance at securing a "normal" job (I dropped out of college). The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur is also very informative. But out of this list, by far, my two favorite books are The Compound Effect and The Slight Edge. #1 going to The Slight Edge. Read this book. Maybe it won't apply to everyone as much as it did to me, but it totally changed my attitude towards life.

Smart Soapmaking, Cool Soapmaking, and Castile Soapmaking, by Anne L. Watson. Also her lotion and goat milk soap books if you want to splurge on the complete set.

Based on work that I have built and sold, I would say $1500+. Less, and you're selling yourself short.

Also, I recommend reading this book if you want to make money woodworking. There is a lot of good advice contained that I found very useful, especially with regard to pricing your work.
