The easiest thing would be to buy a hard wax, a medium wax, and a soft wax, and see which you like to work with. If I had to pick one, I'd say go with something like this

And, the easier yet method would actually be to do lost foam casting instead, and cut it with a hot knife or a hot wire, in which case you just coat the foam with slurry, and pour the metal onto the foam as is, no burning/melting necessary. I recommend a rock tumbler with walnut shells for cleanup of the finished piece.

This would be more practical to fabricate with sheet metal and wire.

If you really want to cast it, it should be a solid medallion with the design in relief. The bottom roots can be detailed in the metal result with a dremel.
