I'm familiar with two books that I consider worth checking out though perhaps not amazing.

Le Dictionnaire des Anges by Gustav Davidson is kind of the standard reference, though I've admitedly only casually flipped through the English version.

There is also The Encyclopedia of Angels by Constance Victoria Briggs which is not bad but I would say its not as good as the other, personally.

I'm also familiar with this book by J. Stephen Lang though I can say its probably not what you are looking for. Its from a kind of evangelical Christian perspective though I will say that it includes a lot of obscure entries and can be fun to read because I find myself disagreeing with it a lot. So if you ever like to read books that you can yell at this may be an interesting one.

It would be an interesting exercise to gather together disparate information about angels and archangels and put them together in a properly sourced wiki or something. So far the Angelical Language Wiki only has stub entries on a handful of angels. :-/ Since they are strict about sourcing and about having different (even conflicting) opinions made available (at least when it comes to the linguistic stuff) it might be a good place to collect info about them, if one were so inclined.

edit you might also find the book arguing with angels by Egil Asprem worth a read. While it certainly isn't a dictionary of angels it does give a very academic overview of angel magic in both medieval and modern occult practice.

I think it depends on what kind of drug and how you're consuming it.

I really won't recommend marijuana, as it opens up the energy field and if you don't have good boundaries, it could lead to potential problems.

As for hallucinogens plants, those plants open doors to inner worlds. In my opinion, you can do the following to stay safe:

1-it's really important to state your intent before - to know why you are doing it since nothing can overwrite your higher will.

2-I would also recommend working with angels/spirits guide and having a working relationship with protective spirits and entities before. So you can always access them if needed since you've already built the inner pathways.

3-Ideally work with a shaman or someone who spiritually facilitate the process, when I say that I mean Ayahuasca is better IMO than LSD or mushroom. The shaman (and you should find a good one) will hold the space and the energies of the space and people. They will know exactly what going on with everyone and will help if needed.

Josphine talks about the drugs as well here in her book:

You should read this very interesting book magic and religion have very different sociological roles and roots.

Kinda funny that an anthropology teacher wouldn't already know of it and its findings. It's pretty well respected and widely known, from what I understand.

Have a solid understanding of symbol, scent, color and planetary correspondences are an essential start.

Have the right incense, do the proper cleansing, creation of complementary or protective layman and talismans as well as getting your god of the hour and god of the day sorted are also essential.

I would dig into a multiple of Dr Steven Skinner works.

If you're not familer with Dr Skinner i would recommend the following videos and podcasts.

If you're curious, here are some books on the subject of occult wandlore and wand making.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wandlore-Apprentice-Wandmaker-K-Theodore/dp/0993328407/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1455568363&sr=8-2&keywords=wandlore

https://www.amazon.com/Wandlore-Crafting-Ultimate-Magical-Tool-ebook/dp/B0073XF0YS

I'd also recommend looking at examples of occult wands; some people include metals, crystals, dried herbs, consecrate them in incense, etc. etc. I'm pretty sure those two books cover that subject however. :)

I've just read the teaser as well but it looks very good :)

also, I just purchased this book:

The kind of magik that you are seeking is not for beginners. It is referred to as high magic or ceremonial Magic. And it's wrapped up in very complicated systems and initiatory orders like the Order of the Golden Dawn, Ordo Templi Orientis or the Rosicrucians.

The closest thing to what you're asking for regarding symbols that summon beings from other realms would be solomonic talisman's or seals. Here is a link to a book that has an amazing collection of these symbols and the instructions for making them.

The Clavis or Key to the Magic of Solomon: From an Original Talismanic Grimoire in Full Color by Ebenezer Sibley and Frederick Hockley https://www.amazon.com/dp/0892541598/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Jw3-Bb99QHX5M

If money is a major issue try this one.

The Three Magical Books of Solomon: The Greater and Lesser Keys & The Testament of Solomon https://www.amazon.com/dp/194677409X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-w3-Bb70K6QYJ

If this still doesn't satisfy you, try the Ayahuasca shortcut.

This is really more of a tangent than an argument, but the "All" is a little misleading even with Bune's alternate sigil present, the compiler of the ars goetia seems to have arbitrarily chosen the number 72 and then picked and chose which spirits should make up the list. It's a pretty late text for this type of grimoire that most people would be surprised to learn we only have copies of in english.

Jake Stratton Kent has a wonderful book going over all of the pre and post lemegeton catalogs of goetic spirits and combining them.
I'm personally working through the Verum but I'm still in the gathering tools phase of the work.

u/adm212 · 5 pointsr/occult

If you want to know how to use this sigil, along with an array of other wealth-building sigils, I recommend that you purchase Magickal Riches by Damon Brand.

Once you obtain and read that, it should be obvious why I made this. I hope you find it useful.

u/Gleanings · 1 pointr/freemasonry

I really wish plaintext states like Illinois would make their ritual monitors available to the public. Otherwise people are limited to Duncan's Masonic Ritual and Monitor and Look to the East, which are always close but not quite.

You will note that your obligation limits what you can write, etc. But there's nothing against buying a book that someone else has written and published. Which is why masonic exposures were largely historically bought ...by masons.

The best book out there on memorizing masonry is Learning Masonic Ritual.

u/TryptamineX · 2 pointsr/CriticalTheory

It might not be precisely what you're looking for, but if you're using academic investigations of cultures that practice magic, Randal Styers' Making Magic provides an incredibly helpful study of those academic investigations themselves. He's particularly interested in how scholarly work on magic has helped to reinforce cultural assumptions of modernity (by constituting magic as the primitive or improper foil to proper, modern understandings of reason, religion, and desire) and how discourses of magic have helped to destabilize that very project.

u/ryanmercer · 2 pointsr/magick

There's plenty of Christian magic(k)

u/Dilwyn6 · 3 pointsr/occult

If you like Penczak, he has his own book on the topic: Instant Magick: Ancient Wisdom, Modern Spellcraft

I think there is some similar stuff using NLP (neurolinguistic programming) in Jason Augustus Newcomb’s The Book of Magick Power.

u/wackyvorlon · 1 pointr/worldbuilding

Buy and read this book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006K0M2I2

It's very short, but is excellent.

u/raisondecalcul · 1 pointr/witchcraft

Do a ritual to bring about the conditions for you to be able to practice :-). If you do it right it will work, but it might upset your life in whatever ways are necessary for you to get that space.

Have you read Sorceress Cagliastro? She's superb. Here's her most important book and her radio show. Her new book 25 Sigils should give you some ideas on how to use sorcery to bring about the space you need, too.

u/GiftOfSet · 1 pointr/satanism

Theistic approaches tend to be heavy on esoteric symbolism, and some of us invoke various gods/godesses/dieties - who one of my friends described as "manifold reflections of the Prince of Darkness".

Perhaps think along the lines of creating your own path. I would take it slow when it comes to the subject matter in question. Here are a few links:

"Demons of Magick" by Gordon Winterfield. He is a member of the Gallery of Magick. They have published quite a few really good books on working with magick.

u/TheFuckShittery · 1 pointr/threekings

It's actually an excellent book. Rituals do not require exotic materials or even drawing shit on the floor (at least the ones I've read so far). They also do not require you to be an asshole to the entities you summon (like some old grimoires). Basically, you first call upon four agels to make sure you don't get yourself into trouble, then you call on the demon you wish to communicate with or do stuff for you. The book is available in printed and ebook form. I have the ebook
