Yup, I have 2 speakers that I have plugged into my Raspberry Pi 3. I didn't use any type of AMP, I find it sounds really good already. I used Retropie for the games, it was actually pretty easy to use.

The same thing happens with my chromebook, but to me this really is a "you get what you pay for" issue. Most laptop speakers sound terrible, so I feel its unfair to blame a $250 MRSP chromebook for having speakers that crackle. I bought tiny external speakers for when im listening to music/watching a video without headphones. Something like this or this will deliver you better quality than any laptop speaker.
