i5-4690k - If you aren't doing any programming or editing, and mainly gaming, you'll see here that the 4690k trumps every AMD CPU. There is no competition in tier 1 gaming CPU's in the AMD department. AMD uses more, but slower cores, which isn't ideal for gaming. The 4690k definitely has higher base processing speed because of increased IPS performance and faster single cores in general. Also, AMD CPU's are notoriously power hungry and heat up quite a bit more. With some overclocking, you'll be able to hit around 4.5hz on an 8320, which will compensate for a bit, but an OC'd 4690k will still perform considerably better.

CM 212 evo - One of the best CPU coolers in terms of price/performance. You'll be able to hit some nice OC's on your 4690k, even though it probably won't be necessary until later.

Asrock Z97 Extreme 4 - I'm mainly suggesting this mobo because of the great 4690k/z97 bundle going on at microcenter, you can cop them both for around $300. Besides that, you'll be able to hit nice CPU overclocks and SLI. Awarded by tomshardware as one of the best z97 mobos $100-$150

Ripjaws Memory - One of the most popular memory's. Won't be needing more than 8gb, 1600 for gaming, looks pretty nice along with the red msi gtx 970 and $80 is a good price.

840 Evo SSD - one of the best SSD's along with the mx100. Quick quick quick.

1TB WD Blue - It's either this or the seagate 1tb. I personally can vouch for the reliability of WD drives, so I tend to go with them.

MSI GTX 970 - Probably will go down as one of the most iconic cards in pc gaming history along with the 8800gt as a crazy level of price to performance. You'll gobble up any game @ 1080p/60fps, and do more than well in the 1440p resolution. You'd have no problem with 4k resolution with SLI'd 970's. The gtx 970 would eat up 10 GTS 450's for breakfast. Seriously, the performance upgrade you'd be getting with this card will make you get on your knees and praise Gaben.

H236HLbid 23" IPS monitor - If you've never used IPS or 1080p, you'll be amazed by the picture quality and color accuracy of this screen. The best 23" 1080p monitor in the $100-$200 range. The alternative is to get a 1440p QNIX 2710 (MUST BE SINGLE INPUT to overclock to ~96hz) This is a great 1440p PLS monitor for around $350 that can overclock to 96hz, which means you'll be seeing 96 frames/sec instead of the usual 60hz, as long as your system can handle it. Makes a HUGE difference.

Fractal R4 Case - One of the most iconic ATX Mid cases. Can cop for around $80 on sale, lots of HD trays (top rack removable), nice fit, fan speed control, and a slew of over cool features. Other options in the price range - Phanteks Enthroo Pro and the NZXT 440.

EVGA G2 750w PSU - Very high quality Gold standard PSU. I overshot it with this to allow headroom to add another GTX 970 for the build. You can safely SLI the gtx 970's with a high quality 650W PSU, because they take so little power, around 145W TDP. A 650W Gold+ Seasonic or Antec would do just fine.

Find yourself a nice mechanical keyboard with cherry mx switches. I would suggest a cm quickfire or k70. One of the most important upgrades you can make. Once you go cherry mx, you'll have a hard time typing on membrane keyboards. It's an absolute must for me.

Last, but not least try to find a decent headphone and stick on a zalman attachable mic to use as a gaming headset. I personally use an ath-m50, although it's not great for gaming with it's bad soundstage since I listen to music more often anyway. Nice alternatives are the beyerdynamic dt-770 and sennheiser hd 25-1 II.

Speakers - You'll need a pair of speakers for your setup since your monitor won't come with one. I recommend M-Auidio AV40's. They're delicious. If you're looking for a cheaper option, these aren't so bad.

Wow, that was a lot of writing! I know it can be overwhelming picking out parts for a pc, especially if you haven't it in a while. Hopefully you'll find some of this info useful, and good luck!

Things I changed:

Processor cooler:

Added one as I do recommend one if you want to overclock your system. The H100i does very well on the cooling part!

Motherboard:

I'm not much of a fan of MSI boards because of their software. Their Killer Lan drivers broke my Wi-Fi's card drives and the Sound blaster Cinema drivers said I didn't even own an MSI board :/

So I'd recommend going with the Asrock Z97 Extreme4 as it offers better overclockability because of the higher power phase count and extra ports like the Sata-Express one.

Case:

While this one is a great case, you should check out these:

- Phanteks Enthoo Pro. It's a lot bigger case, but it offers a lot more upgrade options later on. It's just an fantastic case that looks great for a decent price!

- Corsair Obsidian 750D. It's another big case, but just like the Enthoo Pro a great alternative!

- Be Quiet! Silent Base 800. This is Be Quiet!'s first take at a case and I have high hopes for this one. It looks amazing and offers a lot of options. I expect to find the well popular Silent wing fans and sound dampening material in there!

- Fractal Design Node 605. This is an excellent, but quite expensive alternative! It's a small "HTPC" like case that supports ATX motherboards and long graphics cards!

Power supply:
The G1 series of EVGA are not that great. You should go with the G2 series. You could also go with something cheaper from Rosewill, that still is a great quality power supply.

Speakers:

About speaker setups. I'd recommend one with an amplifier with it. As onboard audio is not gonna do very well for a decent setup. Or go with something a little cheaper.

From cheaper to most expensive:

- Creative Labs Gigawork T40 Series II. A great 2.0 setup that doesn't really need a good amplifier to create some nice sounds.

- Creative Labs Inspire T6160 is another great setup that is fine without dedicated amplifier. This setup is fairly cheap and it'll most likely have some sharp high tones, which are certainly annoying.

- Logitech Z506. A great and popular setup. I do highly recommend going with an external (DAC and) amplifier for the best audio quality.

- AudioEngine A2+. these are more professional boxes and thus provide you with excellent clear sounds! It has a DAC integrated for even better audio quality than all above mentioned speaker setups.

No problem! Glad you like my suggestion.

As for your changes and questions, let me help you.

  • Monitors:
I've selected 2 different monitors because of the budget that I had left. They're pretty far away in terms of price. There are a few points the monitors needed to have/be and that was "60Hz, IPS & stylish/sleek enough looking (no glossy!)".
But to explain the differences between the 2 monitors:
  1. Price. I suppose this is something you've noticed very much. The more expensive one is double the price. My other points will explain why this is.
  2. Resolution. The Asus monitor is 2560x1440p & the AOC monitor is 1920x1080p.
If you watch the video about resolution, you're going to understand it fairly well what the difference is. But I can also provide you with a screenshot of my own setup. Click!
This are my 2 monitors, the pink background is of my 1080p & the baby blue is my 1440p monitor. I've opened 2 text files and did not change the size of them, they're the exact same size. I placed those in roughly the same location of the monitor.
This shows you that I have a lot more "room or real estate" on my 1440p monitor.
This is very helpful for programming and web development. Here is an example of how I can set up my monitor. I opened 2 of the same excel files and highlighted the "end" of the 1080p monitor on both files. So you can see how much more you can see on the 1440p monitor. It are "just" 360 pixels, but those make a large enough place to be noticeable.
You can also flip the 1440p monitor 90 degree to create a 1440x2560 field. This is great for coding. Lots of space!
Anyway, sorry I went on a rant here.
  3. Flexibility. The Asus monitor got full range of adjustments. Including pivot, height, swivel & tilt.
The AOC monitor only got tilt.
  4. Display quality. The Asus monitor is a bit more expensive and got a great quality display as well. It's more designed towards the "Pro Art" series. It uses an IPS panel of course.
Uncalibrated, the display is almost able to display the full sRGB color spectrum. Which is impressive! When you calibrate the monitor, you can get some improvements, but they're going to be.. hard to notice for an untrained eye. In other words, you won't really miss or mind this.
The AOC monitor is also an IPS monitor, but of "slightly less" quality. I can't find any detailed reviews, since it's more of a value display.
One thing that you're likely going to notice is subtle difference between the 2 monitors. I personally have 2 "IPS" displays. The IPS Dell P2314H & a PLS Qnix QX2710LED. Because of the 2 different panel types (IPS & PLS), I absolutely do notice a subtle difference between the 2. But well, I don't mind this at all (especially right now since I don't use the Dell monitor :D).

  • Sound system:
Sound is a very touchy subject to talk about since people all have different preferences & ears.
So nothing is can be marked or labeled "perfect". Can you provide me the name of your headset? Because if it's a Razer one.. I absolutely want you to get rid of it, you deserve better! And yes I know, you might find it more than good enough.. You just don't know man! Anyway.. Speakers talk time.
I am really not a big expert in the speaker world, I personally have some budget speakers.. that I rarely use. But it gets asked here every once in a while, so I did research more about this.
The Logitech Z623 are pretty well regarded for bass heavy music, such as hardcore, dub techno and drum & bass.
For classical, rock, metal & vocal music (top50) they're not that good.
This means that it matters a lot on what style of music you like; to decide on which speakers you go for.
My personal favorite option for a "value" option is to get some bookshelf speakers & buy a budget AMP to make them come alive. This guide is what made me discover this option. It's really an amazing option in terms of good quality speakers.
If you don't like this option, it gets a bit harder and depending on your music preference. I will give out a couple of great options that you probably did not hear about yet.
  1. Creative Gigaworks T20 - $70 - Review
  2. Bose Companion 2 Series III - $99 - Review(s) I can't find any review just yet of this version. But Amazon seems to love them.
  3. I forgot the names of the other speakers I really liked.. Edifier, JBL, Cyber Aucustics are some other good brands that I know off.

  • SSD:
This is in my opinion "wasting" money. You will not benefit much from this SSD. The reason? The 850 EVO is already very close to the "limit" of what SATA3 SSDs can do. The 850 Pro is even closer to this, but the difference is very minimal.
Just to put it into perspective.. the 850 EVO would boot the PC up in 10-12 seconds, the 850 Pro would do this in 9-11 seconds.
The 850 EVO would launch a game in 4 seconds, the 850 Pro would do this in 3,7 seconds..
Both of these SSDs are insanely good. But the 850 EVO is already hitting the limit.
Here is a great review of the 850 EVO.
Here the review of the 850 Pro from the same website.
Yes the 850 Pro is of course better and it's clearly seen in some of the benchmarks, but in "real world" usage, you're going to be hard pressed to notice the difference.
  • Network cards:
If you can get a wired connection, you don't need to buy a network card! The motherboard got this already. It's above the 2 USB 3.0 (blue) ports on the left.
The wireless card is both an AC WiFi (5GHz) & Bluetooth 4.0 card. If you're going to use WiFi you have to remember that the speed is depending on what kind of router you're using. If your router does not support the AC WiFi network, the card won't be able to use it either.

    ---

Also one big note to keep in mind. My list does not include mail-in rebates & I filtered out a lot of shops that aren't that amazing to order from. As you can see, my list only makes use of Amazon, Newegg & B&H for shops.

Hope that this helps and answered some of your questions. If you have any more questions, absolutely don't hesitate to ask again.

Audiophile here.

First off, disclaimer: You cannot get BI4L computer speakers. Long-lasting (a decade), sure, but not BI4L. Computer speakers require an amp of sorts, which are notorious for not being BI4L. Running an amp separate from your speakers will not only exceed your budget for a decent one, but would be impractical for a laptop setup.

Okay, so don't get monitors. You can't get decent monitors however small for that price range. Computer speakers haven't quite had the opportunity time-wise to be tested for BI4L-ish (again, the internal amp) quality, but there are a few brands that are going in the right direction.

As Sloppy said, you don't want paper membranes in your speakers. Cloth, glass, crystal, or high quality rubber (but only for the largest of subs) are the ones for which you'll want to look.

First, a few warnings against some brands. In the market, you have a bunch of computer brands trying to make speakers and a handful of speaker brands trying to make computer speakers. The problem with the former is that, well, they don't know speakers.

Logitech excels in consumer electronics - keyboards, mice, joysticks, remotes - but their speakers suck. Yes, even the $400 Z906s. They're loud, they're easy to use, they're flexible (in that you can alter the output easily), but the sound lacks finesse in all three ranges - the bass is muddy, the mid-range is flat, and the tweeters pierce rather than sparkle. You may have heard good things about Logitech's "Ultimate Ears" headphones. Yes, these are pretty good, but that's because Logitech bought a higher-end headphone company a few years back. In any case, that expertise has yet to make it out of the earphones lineup.

On the other hand, you have high-end speaker companies trying to make something that sounds decent but fits in the roughly the same $100-$400 price-range at which people looking to buy nicer computer speakers spend.

Like everyone else, I'm going to warn you against Bose. Bose speakers sound okay, but not for the price at which they're sold. I could justify buying Bose speakers if they were 50%-60% cheaper. They're the Abercrombie and Fitch of speakers, if you will - decentish quality, but you're really paying for the brand.

The other big name that falls into this category is Klipsch. Their higher-end stereo speakers are pretty good, but their cheap speakers are, well, cheap. Their speakers in the $100-$200 range sound okay and are built okay for the price. Nothing special. Plus, they tend to be ugly. =P

Finally, the recommendation:

Here are Creative's GigaWorks T20s and T40s. IMO, the GigaWorks offerings hit the sweet spot in price, sound, and build quality. I've had the T20s for eight years now, and they still sound as good as the first year. They have cloth and glass tweeters and midrange, so they sound great and are quite durable. Rather than wasting your money on a muddy discrete sub, each speaker has a proprietary mini-sub in it. The smaller size means a tighter membrane, so it'll sound better, and there's two of them to make up for the lack of a separate subwoofer. The T40s are the same thing, but with an additional midrange driver on each side if you want a little more volume (though the T20s carry just fine for my smallish apartment).

Cheap 2.1 sound? Cyber Acoustics CA-3602 for $40 on Amazon. Brother had this exact set and he liked it, except the control knob was weird to use and it was impossible to plug in headphones without messing with the volume wheel. The exposed speakers and plastic casing make it look cheap, but they sound really good considering the cost.

Slightly better sound? Creative Sound BlasterX Kratos S3 for $80 on Amazon. All wood casing gives you great sound and they have a good amount of punch. The sub will be a bit lacking if you place it on the floor. You can get these for about $60 from Fry's Electronics if you sign up for their e-mail promo codes. They knock off $20 retail with the code.

Best bang for your buck? Logitech Z623 for $120 on Amazon or the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 for around $120 on Amazon. Both of these are THX certified and they have a lot of bass. Powerful sub coupled with some great speakers make these awesome for the price.

u/GhastlyGrim · 1 pointr/audiophile

Hey guys, I have a $300 (USD) budget to improve my audio performance on my high end PC. When I built it, I more or less ignored the audio side of things, and I'm already regretting that decision :P I'm currently using cheap logitech z313, which aren't horrendous but definitely lack in volume or definition.

I DO NOT have a sound card, and am just using on-board sound of my Asus Sabre-tooth z77. Advertised on their website with these specifications:

Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC

  • Supports : Jack-detection, Multi-streaming, Front Panel Jack-retasking
    Audio Feature :
  • Absolute Pitch 192kHz/ 24-bit True BD Lossless Sound
  • Blu-ray audio layer Content Protection
  • Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel

Ive heard mixed opinions on whether on board sound is just as good as an actual stand alone sound card. I've also read how important a good DAC can be, but am not sure if its a big enough of a deal to include in my initial budget, or just something i should get "down the line" for a slight increase in performance.

My question is this: what should I prioritize my budget for, in terms of performance and cost?

I could potentially get the recommended JBL's (my musician friends seconded the recommendation) but it wouldn't leave any room in my budget for a DAC, soundcard, or subwoofer.

Do you all think I'd be happier with getting the cheaper Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX certified all in one (http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1408310685&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=Klipcsh+Pro+Media), and then a Schiit DAC on top of it (or sound card?) or would I be better off just getting the best speakers I can afford (The JBLs) and upgrading the rest as I go individually? Is the performance difference one that is drastically noticable or is it a minor difference that only true "audiophiles" would even notice?

As this is for a desktop PC setup, I'm looking for all around solid performance. I use it for everything; from production to gaming to movies to music.
u/Padalock · 1 pointr/audiophile

I'm looking to invest some money in improving the sound on my gaming PC, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Here is what I have now:

ASUS Xonar Essence STX - I was talked into buying this a year or two ago by somebody who knew a lot more about computers than I did at the time. Since then, I've been told so many conflicting things. Sound cards are irrelevant at this point, sound cards can still be good but mine is shit, mobo sound is more than enough, I need to move to a DAC. I'm totally clueless when it comes to sound, so I don't know what to believe.

Bose Companion 2 Speakers - Bose is a company that, again, I've heard a lot of conflicting opinions on but for $100 I've never really had any complaints with these speakers. The sound is pretty good for a smallish two speaker setup, and that was what I had to spend at the time.

This is all connected to a Asrock Z87 Extreme4/core i7 4790k/nvidia 760 gaming PC.

I mostly play games, and I sometimes like to substitute my own music in the background while I play. Being able to swap to a headset on the fly is a plus, but I don't use my headset much and this can always been done on the software side of things. I briefly pondered this system, but my gut tells me that someone who knows what they're doing could likely put together something much nicer at that price point. Also, that system connects via USB, which would leave my sound card doing absolutely nothing, although that could be it's fate regardless.

I have about $500 to spend right now, and I'd be willing to save up a little more for something nicer if it'd make a good difference, or start a system that would benefit from additional components currently out of my budget.

I wish I could better express what I'm looking to get out of my system, but I don't really know enough about sound to say what I'm looking for. I'm pretty confident that my current setup leaves enough to be desired that it shouldn't be too hard to point me in a good direction.

u/Myrz · 1 pointr/buildapc

Ok so what I am about to suggest may not be high quality enough for you. From the speakers you have mentioned above you may be going for the $80 - $100 range. With speakers like the MB42X you will absoultely need an amp but the Swan M10 looks like they do not need an amp. I have never bought an amp so I can't make any suggestions.

Moving away from what you have mentioned, I would recommend this

I have these and they really are pretty good and pumping music out. I used them for gaming, general pc use, and for playing music when friends are over. The sub gives the sound some meat and the satellite speakers are quite nice. All that being said, this is the budget system. Something like the Swan m10 is definitely the nicer kind of this same setup (no amp needed, 2 satellite and a sub) but these get the job done for me, at least until I have more disposable income to buy a nice set of speakers and amp. I would highly recommend these bad boys, a major reason being they are just so damn cheap and sound great.

u/YourFriendChaz · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

This isn't what you want to hear, but I suggest trying to grow your budget a bit. If that means holding off a bit, do it. You can get a pair of budget speakers for $20 (no idea about conversion) and then try to set aside a bit more for something that will actually wow you in a few months. I used to work as a musician, so I'm generally a fan of powered monitors. I personally use the Audio Engine A5+ system (with an added subwoofer) and am a huge fan of them in general. Have a great sound signature, push enough air to handle decent bass without a subwoofer for most things, and have fantastic clarity in the sound.

You could save a bit more by downgrading from there to the A2+, and they may even do better on the wall (A5+ usually suggests about 6 inches of clearance from the wall to get proper air movement.)

If you really don't want to wait or don't want to spend the extra to get into the world of audiophile quality, the CA-3602a (couldn't find a UK link) is a pretty solid budget option.

The new Haswell Intel i7-4770 is going to out perform the FX-8350 by a long shot. You'll need 16GB of RAM for video editing. Decent, non-flashy case. Solid PSU. Windows 7 Pro. Dual IPS panel 23" monitors. I went with an unconventional mouse, but you can check it out and see if you would like it. Nice mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX brown switches (great for typing and general purpose). The speakers are amazing, but if you don't need anything that powerful, these are pretty good too.

This is exactly the place to ask this. I can point you in the right direction on these things, but you'll need some prices, details, or something if you want more advice.

Yes mechanical keyboard. Its like the peripheral upgrade equivalent of an SSD, everything about it is better, and you'll never go back.

HERE is a /r/MechanicalKeyboards stickied reason why. There is no way I could explain it any better. Spend a little time in that subreddit. The stickied post up top of it will help you pick your board. Then check out /r/mechmarket since durability is one of the nicest advantages.

THIS post is all you need to get started on speaker set-ups. /r/zeos is just great and covers all price ranges. Anything less than that, it will just come down to looks and reading reviews. Unless you can cop some of the Klipsch Promedias on CraigsList or something. I got a set for $25 and it is the best deal of my life. Things sound fantastic and I can't even take em above 50% or touch the sub volume without waking the neighbors.

As for wireless headphones, no idea. I don't mind the wires for the audio quality provided.

u/jmjjohn · 1 pointr/india

The .1 stands for sub-woofer. So yes a 2.1 speaker will have better range when it comes to base. Generally normal 2.0 speakers are mid range speakers that usually do not have the higher end or the lower end. So it you love the "thump" you might want to consider a 2.1 speakers. Point to note here is that the Creative T40 has a much smaller woofer, hence it will produce the base, but not the "thump", additionally it has a tweeter, which will cover the high end as well.

The speakers I have recommended are some of the higher end speakers from Creative. From my experience - they are the best value for money speakers you can buy. Something equivalent from other brands like Logitech or JBL will cost you much more. Cheep brands like Zebronics and iBall are not worth considering. Philips has gone down the drain as the product is no longer theirs, they lease out their brand for royalties.

To really enjoy these high end speakers - you have to have good quality media (HD media - DTS/Dolby encoded, Not AAC, or low quality MP3). If your listening area is no larger than 12ftx12ft - these creative speakers, the clarity they offer will blow you away. You can read a lot more user reviews here on Amazon's US website.

I'm going to college soon and I wanted to get some good speakers for my dorm room. I'm into EDM and I've confirmed my roommate is too, so I want really good quality ones with great bass.

My friend got the Logitech Speaker System Z623 and I was very impressed when I heard them. I want something like those, but I'd rather not have the $100+ price tag. I mean if I really have to, I'll get those, but I'd rather not spend that much.

I was looking at the Z523 and the Z506, but I guess they aren't as good. But is the difference noticeable?

I asked my friend and he said a good way to tell the quality of a system is the frequency range. And I guess the more watts, the better bass.

If anyone could recommend some good ones for a good price I'd be grateful. Thanks!

u/lloyd_kieran · 1 pointr/audio

You're making it complicated. What's your reason for wanting to use USB rather than just the normal 3.5 stereo jack/RCA audio out of your PC?

The interface you've linked is designed for recording from a mic or instrument into some recording software like Ableton, it's not for using the USB out of your PC to hook up a pair of speakers.

Why do you specifically want studio monitors? Again these are designed to be used in a recording environment and from what I can tell you just want to use them to play music. You'd be better served with a decent pair of PC speakers. I'll link some suggestions that I think will work well for you for around $200.

https://www.bose.com/en_us/products/speakers/stereo_speakers/companion-20-multimedia-speaker-system.html

The Bose Companion 20 speakers are excellent for the price and you will not be disappointed, I've used a pair for a long time.

https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-A2-Powered-Speaker-System/dp/B00DQMJE7E/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1542107270&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=audioengine+a2%2B&psc=1&smid=A2XGE4CX5AV74X

I didn't know this but the Audioengine A2+ can actually be used via USB and comes with the relevant USB A to USB B cable, I haven't heard a pair but they get excellent reviews. This might be the pair to go for if you absolutely want to use USB.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/klipsch-promedia-2-1-bluetooth-speaker-system-3-piece-black/4924200.p??ref=199&loc=kXQk6*ivFEQ&acampID=1&siteID=kXQk6.ivFEQ-KGYWgul6M.uSaxcjDXrsYQ&intl=nosplash

Another system that gets excellent reviews is the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 and has the added benefit of including bluetooth so you could play music from your phone etc. as well if you wanted.

The other way to do it would be with a small stereo amplifier and a pair of bookshelf speakers, this will definitely cost quite a bit more than $200 for a decent set up though and I think using a pair of powered PC speakers will just be easier for you so I won't bother with any suggestions of amps and bookshelf speakers.

Hope this helps!

Here is my secret list shhhhhh... It's not cheap options that's for sure but I like being comfortable I guess, and it's stuff that will last for years of festival fun!

  1. A deep cell marine battery: Available at any auto parts store for about $120. You can then buy a cheap cigarette lighter hook up and intall it onto the battery. Then get yourself a decent 200watt power inverter, about $30. Then you can get some decent sounding speakers that plug in or a bluetooth one. Then you can charge your phone, power the speakers, or charge the bluetooth. With these speakers the battery will last 16 hours! This will also prevent you from ever messing with your car stereo or battery for any reason. Then you can just recharge it with this for next year.

  2. Blackstone's The Dash Portable Gas Grill and Griddle Combo is a great grill to cook every meal you would ever need.

  3. Not to get controversial but these and these have always done me right.

  4. Then this and this will leave you fealing like a million bucks or like someone in GL!

Here is what I would do if you wanted good speakers for a desk. They are a bit big but should sound really nice. This also tops out your budget so keep that in mind.

  • Pioneer BS22 $97 with a Lepai 2020 $20. You'll probably need some wire and a 3.5 to RCA cable

I would also look at some nicer computer speakers as an alternative. I know I'll get some hate for this but realistically if you want something closer to the $75 mark this your only option. Here are some sets I would look at.

  • Altec Lansing $85 - These sound great. Bass and treble controls are a great feature.

  • Logitech z523 $85 - These should sound good for just about any kind of music. It's not audiophile quality but should do a fine job.

  • Bose Companion 2 III $90 - I know I know...Blose. I normally wouldn't recommend them but they actually sound good for smaller speakers. If you want something that sounds good with no sub these are it. If you like EDM/Techno/Rap/Hip-hop these are not for you look above.

  • edited to fix link.

> Looking for the best sound $400 can buy, for music.

If you want the best sound money can buy, you're not looking for 2.1. I can't stress this enough - even if you DIY it, getting a good sub is easily going to cost $400 alone. And even if you do stretch your budget, to accomodate for a sub, a 2.0 system will sound more coherent, and be far easier to live with. Plus, with good speakers, you are not really going to miss a sub.

In your price bracket, and with active speakers as a requirement, you are effectively looking at studio monitors.

I am curious about your intended use - is it primarily when seated in front of a computer?

First Emotiva AirMotiv 4 - Review here - you will need stands for these, bringing the total up to about $400 - stands can either be DIY-ed from a bit of PVC pipe and a few pieces of wood in about an afternoon for about $40, or bought from anything between $50-80.

What kind of stands you will need, and their height will vary with the answer to the question above about intended use. If you primarily intend to use it in front of a computer, then a pair of stands placed on the desk (10-12 in), or taller floor stands (40-45 in) is the correct height. If you plan on enjoying music from the couch, then floor stands of 28-32 inches are the right option. Assuming what you need is for near-field office desk use, here is a decent pair of stands (And are the same stands as in my next item

KRK Rokit RP6 - bundle with stands. If you hang around any music or producer forum, many authors will have these as their go-to budget recommendation, and they are well-liked across the board.

If you don't already have it, both proposals need a 2xRCA to 2x1/4 TS cable, like this

For reference, I use neither of my two recommendations as my near-field budget monitors - the M-Audio BX5 D2 are what I use, and if you would rather get away with less than $400, they are pretty terrific. Also, differing prices in Norway, and in the case of the Emotivas, prohibitive shipping costs, makes the value propositions somewhat different - a kit with the KRK's and floor stands are $650 here, while I got my BX-5's for $300. With this being my secondary system, I'm personally not willing to spend much more than I did, until I feel I can splurge and get myself a pair of Genelec 8040A.

Final note: Yes, these are all classified as "studio monitors", and there is an ages-old misconception that studio monitors aren't good for casual listening. As noted, that is a misconception - studio monitors work exceptionally well, even for casual listening.

u/cocobandicoot · 1 pointr/PS4

The PS4 only supports digital connectivity (old school analog A/V plugs have finally bitten the dust). So for video, it sounds like you're good -- HDMI will work great, as you mentioned your monitor supports it (alternatively an HDMI to DVI setup would also work for a monitor).

But for audio, that's another story... The PS4 uses digital / optical audio cables (also known as a TOSLINK connection). You need a decent speaker system for this type of connection. You mentioned that your monitor doesn't even have speakers (does it have an audio out port though? if so, you may be in luck and can just plug a pair of cheap computer speakers or headphones in). Otherwise, you pretty much only have three options:

  • Option 1: Buy a [digital-to-analog converter](
http://amzn.com/B004C4WPXA), along with a digital / optical (TOSLINK) audio cable and an [RGB-to-headphone style adapter](
http://amzn.com/B000I23TTE). From there, you can get a cheap set of computer speakers (even something simple like these would work). Attach the cables together and plug in the speakers and boom -- you'll have sound. (Note: if the PS4 is anything like the PS3, you'll need to enable "multi channel output" under its sound settings.)

  • Option 2: Buy a set of speakers that support digital / optical (TOSLINK) connections. We're not talking cheap computer speakers like before; these will likely be a pretty decent sound system to support digital / optical (TOSLINK) connections. ([This is the cheapest sound system](
http://amzn.com/B002V3R2SM) I could find on Amazon that supports it -- it's a surround sound / DVD Player combo, in case you're interested.) You'll also need to buy a digital / optical (TOSLINK) audio cable, of course, which I linked to in the above example.

  • Option 3: Or, your final option... just buy a TV. It'll be bigger than a computer monitor, it'll have the built in speakers, and it'll look nicer. TVs have come down in price significantly the last few years, so maybe you can pick one up for cheap on Black Friday or something.
u/elephant_chew · 2 pointsr/rocksmith

I do the same, high volume on good headphones. I think you're right because now that you mention it I always turn up the volume for rocksmith about 40% higher than anything else, but never really thought much on it since I have amplified computer speakers. Here's the easy guarenteed fix.. Simply get a pair of decent-to-good powered computer speakers like creative t20s (about $100) and put them between your pc and your headphones. That's exactly what I have and I only go 2/3 of the full volume capacity before rocksmith blows my ears off. Its awesome and totally worth the investment.

Also always disable loudness control settings when playing rocksmith. It doesn't sound right with it on. You will never get your guitar and the backing track to be in a steady constant volume level to each other, as it will automatically change them to mix "evenly" (what the computer thinks is even). I adjust the rocksmith track and guitar volumes separately for every song I play. Sometimes I want to hear my own playing standout more like when I'm learning something new, and when I know the song well I like it to blend in so it's there but not obtrusive. I only use loudness when watching action movies because I like to both hear voices and not blow my neighbors away with explosion sounds.

u/CastleCorp · 1 pointr/audiophile

Hey guys. I want to get some good speakers with good audio quality and base, because currently the ones I have are not great. I don't want to spend much more than $200. I listen to a lot of music, but mostly EDM, and stuff like that, so sharp base is important to me. I also want something I can turn up loud and not fear blowing out or sacrificing audio quality.

I would like a set of 2, because I am sorta obsessed with symmetry and having just one throws the room off balance for me...

Anyways, here is what I was looking at:

Alesis Monitor1 MKII Channel Studio Monitor (passive)

or buying 2x Gemini DJ SR-8 - 8-Inch Bi-Amped Active Channel Studio Monitor, although that is a little bit more than I want to spend, if it is worth it I will.

And then on the much higher end, where I really am not willing to go unless someone can make the best argument ever to buy them, are the M-Audio BX5 D2 5" Active 2-Way Studio Monitor Speakers.

I would love some advice.

Thanks!

What about something like these Klipsch:

http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1417241684&sr=8-5&keywords=2.1+speaker+system

Sure they may not sound as good (have never owned these) and they're not as customizable but they're a lot cheaper, MORE compact, and I'm sure will sound good for the price. I mean, it is Klipsch and the Pro Media line has been around for...damn...a decade now and have always gotten good reviews.

Other than that there really isn't another non-custom made/put together 2.1 setup for the ~$200 price range...at least nothing that would sound as good.

EDIT: I know you said you wanted to deal with Amazon but Best Buy has them for $229 with free shipping...that's the best you're going to get these for anywhere unless you snag a pair here:

At the bare minimum include the following things if you want help and/or advice choosing or setting up amplifiers, speakers, DACS, etc

  • Budget: a little more or less than 100 u$s? I'm not sure
  • Country: Argentina. If the product cost more than 50$, I have to pay 50% of the excedent as taxes
  • I can buy from: Any amazon, b&h, I think almost everywhere
  • Use: Audioslave, RHCP, Rock in general, series,
  • Where: A desk in a Room
  • Space: 3.67m x 3.88m, NOT really loud, I will be most of the time 1.5m away from the speakers and occasionally on my bed, or taking a bath or cooking in the next room.

    Optional but also helpful

  • Powered, passive, or no preference: no preference, I've heard you can get a better quality with the same budget with passive speakers.
  • Any size limitations for either speaker or amp: no
  • To upgrade later?: not really
  • Pref certain way of sounding (Bright/forward, smooth/laid back, neutral, etc): that immersive experience (everyone here would call it the commercial one?) but I'm not sure, I don't have any speaker to listen and compare.., I only have a HyperX Cloud 1 headsets and I won't be downloading FLAC at least for the moment, I only listen from Spotify (music) or Bluray (series and movies) most part of the time

I've made my search but I have no idea about this so... I need speakers for the pc on the desk in my room. Mostly for series, music, games. I will not update the system soon after this purchase and I don't have anything right now besides my current headphones.

I'm from Argentina so I have 2 disadvantages: I have absolutely no idea what I'm buying because there are no places near me to try any of these speakers. For every purchase, if I spend more than 50$ I will have to pay 50% of the excedent. That means, I can buy an amp of 30$ without paying taxes or if it exists the possibility to buy a pair of headphones by separate (1 and 1 making a pair) I will probably not pay taxes... Are there places willing to do that?

    This is my room: https://imgur.com/a6UVKYU

    Questions:

    - What would you recommend and why?

    - My motherboard doesn't have bluetooth. I want to connect my pc the 99% of the time and maybe my phone 4-5mts away. What is my best option?

    - I think I can buy from any amazon. I've found better prices for some of the products there. Editing..

    Active:

    Edifier R1280T 156$ - £89.99

    Edifier R980T 115$ - £59.99

Swan Speakers - D1010-IVB (unavailable? the 2nd best option?)

    Passive:

    Micca PB42 60$

    Micca PB42X 110$

Pioneer SP-BS22-LR 93$ (the best ones? 1st best option?)

    Dayton Audio B652 28$

    Dayton Audio B652-AIR 45$

    Amp:

Lepy LP-2020A Class-D 23$ (I want to connect my phone occasionally without disconnecting my pc, should I get a bluetooth or wifi amp?)

Thanks for the info.

There are a few decent active speakers in your price range, but not many with an optical input. So far for $200 and under I have only found the Edifier R1850DB. This is a great starting set of speakers. You can find them here:

https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1850DB-Bookshelf-Speakers-Bluetooth/dp/B073W1R4XQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1541451470&sr=1-1&keywords=r1850db

Most active speakers in this price range will have RCA inputs instead and a lot of TV's will have RCA outputs to connect to them. If you have the option of connecting through RCA, other great options include the Edifier R1700BT and the Fluance Ai40. If you can spend over $200, some other good options would be the Edifier R2000DB for $250, the Audioengine A2+ for $250, the Kanto YU4 for $330, the Vanatoo Transparent Zero for $360(best on this list, IMO), the Kanto YU6 for $400, or the Audioengine A5+ for 400.

If you want to get a record player down the road, it is important to know whether or not you will want a turntable that has a phono preamp built in(this will limit your selection greatly) or if you want a turntable that requires and external phono preamp(this is most turntables and you will need an amp or receiver that has a phono preamp included). The reason I say this is because the Kanto YU4 and YU6 listed above already has a phono preamp built in, so that's one less thing you need to get down the road. The other speakers do not have this.

The Vanatoo's are probably the best sounding in the list above and have the most inputs if needed.

Don't worry about being "clueless", pretty much all of us were where you are. Years ago, I bought a Crosley at best buy because I just didn't know any better. These all-in-one sets just seem like such a great idea to uninitiated fools like you and me were. However, the truth is they are terrible. IDK about yours, but mine didn't even sound very good. Yes, it is ruining your records because the stylus is basically putting too much pressure on the grooves everytime you use it which damages them. IDK how quickly this damages them, you probably are fine so far.

Before someone comes in and gives you vague advice to buy vintage on Craigslist or eBay or a thrift store because you can get a much better table for the same price as what you have now, let me give you some advice, from one broke college student to another, that will actually be helpful. This advice is true, but it does not take into account the fact that you will need a preamp for this table which is something that boosts the naturally quiet signal. You will also need a receiver and speakers. You can find a receiver that includes the phono preamp, but still this is going to end up costing you over $100 at least. Not to denigrade this option, but there is an easier route for the broke beginner.

You can buy a new (or slightly used) turntable that includes a preamp. The most favored model is the Audio Technica LP60. I have this myself (found it for $50 on eBay) and can vouch for it. It does not have a counter weight for the tonearm, so technically you still will be wearing your records down faster than necessary, but it is MUCH better than how the table you have now is treating them, and to get a model with a counter weight you will be looking to spend enough to make the first option I outlined be the better route. So, with this model there is a switch to activate the internal preamp, which allows you to plug into any powered speakers that accept either RCA inputs or a simple line-in, which basically looks like a normal headphone jack. Which means all you need is the turntable and some speakers. With this model, a simple pair of computer speakers suffice. You can get decent ones from amazon (I have seen these dip down to $20 periodically and they aren't bad).

Hope this helps!

Edit: what albums do you have so far? What lead you to begin with vinyl?

u/Graceful_cumartist · 1 pointr/vinyl

I suggest the Pro-ject pre amp

For speakers I don't know, I have a pair of Audio Pro addon t8's but they seem to be way pricier in US. Basically anything that fits your budget and has gotten favorable review usually is enough to get a nice sound out of your TT.

If you want to save a bit on the pre amp then you might wanna take a look at TCC TC-750, that would also do the trick, it is now for a pretty reasonable reduced price so be quick.

Speakers that I can recommend without a reservation would be these audio engine A2+. They are solid small powered speakers that would do your vinyls justice.

All together the TCC 750 with the A2+ now add up just shy of 300. This would be setup that with your TT will go a long way before a need to upgrade although I would add a sub when you get the chance.

If you want to save more, you could go for these Mackie CR4 but you can't add a powered sub to these, use them for your PC trough USB and don't have an option to add wireless support later. So it comes with a lack of features.

Okay, actually I wanted to to use the 3570k and the ASRock Extreme4 but then I decided to choose a version without overclocking ability since the 3550 will be enough for recent games. The "heart" of your new rig is the 7850 which has the best cost-benefit-ratio out there. I added an IPS monitor which has a big viewing angle and should be pretty awesome. As you can see, I did not add a mouse, keyboard and a sound system - but there is also around 120$ left for these. I didn't do it because I like to go to a store and test them and I suggest you the same. Most redditors here suggest mechanical keyboards but I'm no fan of them (they're really loud and cost 100$+. Although you can use them for 10 years or so I prefer buying a "normal" keyboard for 20$ every 5 years.). I think you can find a keyboard you like for about 20 bucks, a good mouse for around 50 and a good 2.1 or 5.1 sound system for 60$ (for example this logitech here.

The bright colors and fancy box do jack for me. And lets be frank. Most children, which this product is aimed at, won't care either what color the keyboard is or how nicely it's packaged. They'll only care what they can do with it, and there's already a huge community around the Raspberry Pi to give children cool stuff to play with.

You can spec out all of this stuff for almost $50 less and have the newer model Pi. Sure, for some people, this looks like a great deal. For me, without a screen/monitor, it's no good.

>Do you guys keep it plugged in all the time?

Yeah, pretty much. I use my rMBP in the same way you're describing. I read through apple's suggestions on how to keep your battery healthy (sorry I don't have the link) and it said every few days you should run it on battery power for a couple of hours to keep it active. Other than that I have it plugged in all the time.

>What speakers do you guys use?

I don't use any since my monitor has decent built-ins, but I have used the Klipsch ProMedia speakers before in my office and they are great. (They have wires though...)

Sorry, can't say anything about the monitor but, I will give you a few other suggestions. First, I highly recommend the magic trackpad over a mouse. The gestures are such a time saver and I don't feel like I'm using all the features of OS X without them. Second, I suggest getting a mini display port to HDMI (or whatever you need) to connect to your monitor. Since you'll have the Macbook closed, you'll need to have it plugged in and having both cords going from the same side right next to each other is a big hassle saver. Lastly, I use the rain design mTower as my dock/stand. I love the design and it holds the rMBP really nicely. Yes, I think it is a bit over priced, but so are all the other options and it's something you kinda need.

Hope this helps you!

High School English (none of these are English specific)

This is room dependent as some schools have them, but one key thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet (apologies if I missed it) is a clock. Specifically get an atomic clock that has a highly visible seconds display. I just bought this one by Marathon refurbished. It makes a great deal of difference knowing whether there are 3 seconds or 30 seconds until the bell in my experience.

Another thing I highly recommend is this wireless trackball mouse. It makes a great presentation tool. You can do more with it than a clicker. You can just hold it on your leg if you need to use the mouse function while standing.

Also, get yourself some speakers that sound decent and have a) an easy way switch to headphones b) easily accessible volume control. Headphones are essential because you will undoubtedly be on your prep while the classroom next door decides to mutiny. The external volume control is much easier than having to click around on the computer (you could get a keyboard that has those features). These speakers are reasonably priced and have served me well. Bonus points if you can find an easy way to include bluetooth in the set up (I'm trying to figure out how to do that as my new school blocks spotify). If anyone has any ideas for me, I would appreciate it.

I'm a terribly unorganized person, but for me color coded folders helped me keep things a little more organized. Find durable plastic folders and assign a color for each different period. When you collect an assignment, it goes into the proper folder

I had this pair that came with our Quantex PC when I was ten years old, pretty similar to these. It lasted a pretty long time too, but finally died. Common failure points on these are the connector plugging the speakers into the sub, also the plastic where the cable comes out of the speaker can get brittle and crack pretty easily. However, if you don't move them a lot this might not be as much of an issue. I agree, though, that altec lansing made some great stuff back then. Currently I'm rocking a pretty cheap pair of creative PC speakers, and they've lasted me a good long time. What's nice about mine is the sub footprint is a bit smaller than the AL set we had which is good for limited space constraints on a desk.

[This](http://www.Creative.com/ A250 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CDJJZV6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_pCt.ybXXR32TC) is the newer model of the ones I have. Should still be reliable for a pretty long time.

No I dont have an amp or receiver. I'm trying to keep my budget relatively low which is why it's been challenging. Trying to find something affordable and decent quality preferably under $200 and in Australia. So yeah powered for now would be better and I'll upgrade later down the track I think.

Thanks for that recommendation though I will check the Audioengines out!! Do you know anything about Microlabs? They have Some relatively cheap products but Im worried that there like a Logitech...

I also came across these Genius SP-HF1800A which seem to have reviewed pretty well and I know where I can get them.

Edit: I found some Audioengine 2's for $160 second hand locally so that seems like a pretty good option atm

Edit2: Also came across these Creative T40's Which seem to be pretty decent for PC speakers aswell

In 2011, I got the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 System and have been very happy with the purchase. They're currently at $160, but I've seen them drop to around $100-$110 a few times. If it's not a time-sensitive purchase, I would toss the Amazon link on camelcamelcamel and wait for the price to fall.

My personal pros and cons (others may have had different experiences).

Pros

  • Strong, versatile sound for music, movies, or games. Clear highs, full-mids, rich bass.
  • These speakers have a lot of power. I don't think I've ever passed 30% on the subwoofer, or 50% on volume. Sound comes in clear with no distortion. I can't really speak to when you'll begin to hear muddiness or distortion, but in the 4 years I've had them there hasn't even been a time where I needed to get to that volume.
  • I like the convenience of adjusting volume/sub levels directly on the speaker, which also has AUX and headphone jacks.
  • Easy to setup.

    Cons

  • No 'power' button - It's been a while since I've looked back there, but from what I remember there wasn't a power switch to turn the sub off in the back. So they're kind of in 'always-on' mode. Just be sure to reduce volume or remove speakers from the sub before unplugging.
  • Sound is fairly 'directional', so placement is important (this is always the case, but I believe moreso with these speakers).
  • (this can be interpreted as a pro or con) - bass is almost too heavy. I find myself turning the sub down a bit for hip-hop and dance tracks with prominent basslines or booming 808s. This however, is fantastic for gaming and movies.

Either way, I'm a big fan of them. Also, there's a pre-amplifier built-in, so that's one less thing to worry about when running the uTurn.
u/hakonab · 1 pointr/headphones

Sorry if this seems repetitive but i need quick help! Here's my scenario.

A family member gifted me a Razer Kraken USB "gaming" headset. While I appreciate how flashy it looks the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. Also, the headphones feel like it grips my skull, so it feels really uncomfortable. Also, the build quality is terrible. I feel like it'll break within a week of use. Getting this out of the way, I don't want to be a prick so I accepted this gift gracefully.

This scenario caused me to research headphones in general. I want to enhance my audio experience (i game on pc, if that makes things easier) without breaking the bank. I am looking for a feasible headphones for under $100 (below $50 is a solid plus). Also comfort is a BIG issue to me as i game for hours on end sometimes. I have no experience with open headphones but i've heard that they're better. Also, it doesn't really matter to me if it comes with a mic or not, but a headphone that could possibly attach one is a plus.

Now here comes the confusing part for me. Im using these speakers. It comes with its own headphone jack, so do I just plug the headphone there, or directly plug it to my pc? How would adding a DAC affect this setup?

What i've noticed with gaming headsets is that they lack the overall sound quality. Now the nicest pair of sound equipment that i've owned is a pair of $100 bose soundtrue earphones. While those sound nice i'm looking to purchase a decent set of headphones that I could use daily.

How good is this headphone? Is there something better than this within the same price range? Thanks for the help!

Hey guys! I'm currently shopping around for some speakers for my new PC (I spent waaayy more than I should have on it). I would be using the speakers on the computer mostly for watching movies, by the way. From the research I did, I narrowed it down to 3:

  1. Edifier e25HD Luna Eclipse: These just look so wonderful, they're hard to resist. From what I've read, the sound isn't as good as the Audioengines though. Is that very noticeable to the average guy? I'm having a hard time trading sound quality for looks, but I'm not able to test either speakers so I'm not sure how much of a difference there is.

    https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-USA-Bluetooth-Speakers-Black/dp/B00WKIY74U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498091506&sr=8-1&keywords=e25hd

  2. Audioengine A2+: These seem like the best sound-wise out of the 3, but since only the black matches my setup, they would be pretty ugly. Are the sound on these clearly superior to the others?

    https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-A2-Powered-Speaker-System/dp/B00DQMJE7E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1498091258&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=audioengine&psc=1&smid=AKR88PAWTQVN2

  3. Bower & Wilkins MM-1: These look beautiful, but stretch a little outside my price range. I've heard the sound is only ok and very dependent on sitting 3 feet away from the speakers, which I probably wouldn't. Anyone know if this might be true?

    https://www.amazon.com/Bowers-Wilkins-MM-1-Hi-Fi-Speakers/dp/B003R6U6HG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498091292&sr=8-1&keywords=bower+and+wilkins+mm1

Awesome post, thank you! Hopefully, I'm not too late to get a few questions answered.

  • I am interested in purchasing the Fiio DAC listed here. I use a both headphones and speakers. My speakers are the 2.1 Klipsch. Will the Fiio be powerful enough to support the speakers and will the sound quality be improved when using the speakers as well?

  • I plan on purchasing studio monitors in the future. I plan on purchasing active monitors. Will there be any benefit to using the DAC in conjunction with the studio monitors? Are there any other devices I'll need to use the monitors properly?

    Thank you!
u/[deleted] · 11 pointsr/shutupandtakemymoney

No.

First off, $50 for a mono, unpowered speaker? No thanks.

Second, ceramics have terrible acoustic properties; there's a reason that both musical instruments and speaker enclosures are usually made out of metals, woods and plastics: they sound better. I'm not sure of the exact physics behind it, but I believe the plasticity of the materials gives them a wider range of frequencies. Glasses and ceramics are very brittle and, I believe, will tend to have a very narrow range of harmonic frequencies. This is why glasses and ceramics tend to only be used in instruments that make a single frequency: jugs and bells.

If you want unpowered mp3 speakers, I'd recommend these Sonys.

If you want great sound for under $50, get a Logitech or Altec Lansing powered 2.1 system like this or this.

If you want to save up for a top of the line set of speakers, you can store your money in one of these handy ceramic pigs. Nowadays it's probably safer than a real bank.

Thank you for taking the time! What kind of information do you need on RStudio? I'm not really doing anything particularly advanced. I'm a student. I'm doing introductory data analysis. We use real data, thousands of observations, but it's mostly simple linear regression. Honestly, my current computer handles it all perfectly fine. I can't imagine I need anything too advanced for the use of RStudio or Stata.

But I felt it important to mention since the purpose of the computer should be primarily my area of study. Is intel the superior choice over AMD for data analysis? I'd heard they'd come a long way to be fairly competitive with Intel. I had been considering a Ryzen 5 2600 or X? But I have the budget available that I don't want to cheap out.

While I have all my peripherals, do you have any recommendations on speakers? Since I appear to have some room left over in the budget, I wouldn't mind upgrading from these crappy little budget speakers. I do appreciate good sound quality but I'm rather amateur in knowing what to look for.

u/nubsrevenge · 1 pointr/buildapc
  1. im not a sound quality person but i always get my music in FLAC, after that you just need good quality headphones/speakers. those CAN get expensive but these speakers are really good for how cheap they are.

  2. this case is completely filtered up, if your cats have a lot of hair around you will just need to keep those filters clean often.

  3. I only have a 7850 (160$) and i can play all current games on max, save crysis 2/3 on medium. a 760 is good

  4. yes you will need to get win7/8

A fan is essential. I ended up switching from stand fan to a carpet dryer. The carpet dryer fan sits in front of the wheel and blows air up through the handlebars. It's the best fan solution I have found for spinning. There are multiple brands but I have the one below. https://www.amazon.com/XPOWER-P-230AT-Speeds-Outlets-2-3-Amp/dp/B00BY48UU8/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1511813128&sr=8-9&keywords=carpet+dryer+fan

Get a heart rate strap. The best one I have found is the Scosche. https://www.amazon.com/Scosche-RHYTHM-Heart-Monitor-Armband/dp/B00QSRQ1UM/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1511813531&sr=8-13&keywords=heart+rate+strap

I like decent sound while riding so I bought a set of Audio Engine speakers which I connect to the bike bluetooth using an audio engine B1 bluetooth receiver. I got thew small speakers due to available space but they work well with a subwoofer I already had. There are many brands of powered speakers that are cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-A2-Powered-Speaker-System/dp/B00DQMJE7E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1511813734&sr=8-3&keywords=audioengine+a2

Well I assume you already have an amp or receiver then? Those monitors are pretty common recommendations, but you could get some pretty insanely good passive speakers for $300.

Since you already have an amp, I'd take advantage of that if you want the most bang for your buck. For $300 you can get some REALLY nice passive speakers or some monitors that are simply solid. You are almost in Wharfedale diamond territory. Or some Boston Acoustics

And if you aren't producing I still think you wouldn't be taking full advantage of what monitors provide with xlr connections and whatnot. Even if you are producing, just use some neutral closed headphones..

Another common pair in that price range are the Audioengine A2 powered. Oh hey they even have a passive P4 version!

But you can get some kick ass passive speakers for under $175 even. Pioneer, Fluance, Yamaha, Infinity, etc. Then you will still have the budget for a subwoofer. Which is really what you need to make the whole system rock.

u/ennuionwe · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

I don't know what your budget is but I'm a fan of the Creative T20 ii

They're under $80, good looking, good sounding. A lot of people are a fan of a separate amp and then a good pair of bookshelf speakers but for me these things are a good mix of simplicity, size, price and sound quality (and I think they look good without the grills.)

u/Mundain · 1 pointr/diysound

Well, just from what I was reading it seems its always best to go with proven deivers and crossover design, especially for someone like me who has not made any enclosures. Due to that, I didn't find any very small options that had significant plans. Other than that barrier, I have no issues with the mecahnics of hooking anything up.

Honestly most of the stuff I see online and youtube for a form factor I am looking for rarely has specs or parts listed.

I mean honestly right now I have a little D-class amp powering two of the speakers from an old set of computer speakers (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-X-530-5-1-Speaker-System/dp/B0002WPSCG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1467651033&sr=8-7&keywords=logitech+5.1+computer).

If it sounds better than that, I probably wouldn't complain and just salvage the parts in the future for a more robust build as you suggest.

Source would be mostly streaming or mp3 as well. So my question is, if I get a driver like the HiVi B3N, will it be just as useful as a mid later one as the FE85s (assuming i eventually take it apart to do something else with)?

u/Almace · 3 pointsr/audiophile

I'm looking into purchasing a new speaker system for my PC. I have a budget of $100 and really just looking for the best quality-per-dollar. I understand a $60-80 set of speakers isn't going to be as good as a $100, but at the same time I'd like to be convinced that a $40 difference is worth saving if it's not $40 worth of a quality increase.

Logitech has a sale on Amazon so was looking into their speakers a bit. Something like the Z523 is at $55 right now. I'm wondering if it'd be worth taking advantage of the sale and what speakers to get even if it means that I'm only getting a certain level of audio quality.

Desk: IKEA Linnmon/Oddvald. Pretty solid desk for the price, although leg room is a bit lacking, probably upgrading soon.

Chair: DXRacer Formula Series, really helped my posture and got rid of my back pain. Plus I'm a huge gear-head so it's very much my style.

Keyboard: Das Keyboard Professional w/ Brown Switches. This keyboard is fantastic, it's a treat to use every day, feels buttery smooth to type on and build quality is superb. I also have a CM Quickfire Ultimate that I use at work, also browns.

Mouse: Zowie EC2-A. Replaced my old Logitech G400 when it started intermittently cutting out, I think I like this mouse even more.

Mousepad: SteelSeries QcK+ for all that low DPI goodness.

Headset: Kingston HyperX Cloud II. I love this headset, it's super comfortable and has good directional sound.

Speakers: Cyber Acoustics CA-3602 FFP. I use my headset mainly but these are good enough for when I need them.

Monitors: BenQ XL2411Z flanked by two ASUS VS247H-P mounted on an Ergotech Triple Monitor Stand. Finally got the monitor stand this year after using two boxes to hold up my side monitors for far too long. However, the BenQ is probably my favorite purchase out of all of these, would've bought three if it served any real benefit to me.

Random Peripherals: uxcell extended power switch. I keep my computer under my desk so this is handy so I don't have to crouch under my desk to turn on my computer.

Inateck PCI-E to USB 3.0 5-Port PCI Express Card. My motherboard came with a fairly low number of USB ports so this allows me to plug in my printer and external hard drive, etc.

Re: speakers. These are just above your budget (on Amazon at least) but I would highly recommend the Creative T-40 speakers.

Whist they do not have a separate sub-woofer, they have some nice tech in the speaker that means they do have a decent thump. The sound quality is excellent for the money. I ended up buying three sets for my house and then my brother asked for a set for his birthday. A decent set of shelf speakers would also do a great job :)

I believe those are the Audioengine A2- which are active speakers. They don't need an amp or anything

I personally went with the Audioengine P4- these are passive speakers that do require an amp. I can attest to the P4's, the sound great, even though you need an amp. It depends on what you want them for. If you're just looking for great bookshelf speakers for your computer for your computer desk, then then active A2's are probably best. I was going for stereo sound to be used with more then just my computer or ipod. Both are great options, just choose based on your needs.

Klipsch 2.1 Pro Media THX Certified. They sound great for both movies and music alike.

The have a headphone jack on the right speaker, which also has the main volume and subwoofer controls - They are LOUD, sound incredible, powered subwoofer with a built in quality preamp which allows even a mediocre soundcard to push these and sound great (my Macbook Air sounds great with these) and I believe I paid $150 for my set; you may be able to find a set for cheaper online.

I setup a Logitech Z-5500 in my bedroom with TV, Xbox One, cable box and PC connected, and a Logitech Harmony remote. It sounds great for a HTIB in the bedroom. I play music and movies, games and TV at varying volumes throughout the day/night.

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-THX-Certified-Digital-Surround-Speaker/dp/B0002WPSBC

Here's the modern version of the product, both are THX certified (if that matters):

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z906-Surround-Sound-Speakers/dp/B004M18O60

And then if your budget is lower, there's non-THX versions of these PC surround systems for less, from Logitech and others. Just check into what connections you have/need vs what these offer.

If you can't put the sub on the floor, you could plop it up on a desk (far from ideal, but an option) with a foam pad, something like this or you could DIY:

https://www.amazon.com/Auralex-Acoustics-SubDude-II-Subwoofer-Isolation/dp/B00DI5AXNI

Note I ran my own speaker cables and connector pins with my Z-5500 since the cables they come with are super thin and kinda meh. Good luck!

(I like the grills, as long as you can make the rest of your setup as aggressive as your PC)

I have included links to each product below the description for you to use.

For what l would recommend, it depends on your desk. Don't go with a glass desk, go with an IKEA Malm in white.
MALM DESK

You won't be getting a corner/L desk that is also standing. Plus standing desks are extremely expensive.

Then get RGB LEDs to go behind your desk and set them in blue for some aggressive looking accents.
LEDs (there are better ones)

For keyboards, go with the Corsair K65 Lux. It's compact design will keep your footprint on your desk down
K65 LUX

And if we are going with corsair stuff, I use the M65 Pro RGB. I love it a lot, it's a great mouse
M65 Pro

Use an extended mousepad, they are better
one example here

The Hyperx Stingers are cheap with great quality and a mic. They are amazing for the $50 price point.
Stingers

The BOSE Companion 2s are great speakers, but with a pricy. Recommend for casual use, not music production
Bose Companion 2s

I can't recommend any chair. Your chair needs might be different than mine, it depends on the person.

One more suggestion: paint one wall to match the color of the LEDs. It will make your room look/feel better.

  • Not getting into a whole AMD vs Nvidia, but at 1080, I believe the 7970 performs better. Once you get into higher resolutions, then the 670 is better.

  • I'd recommend you wait on the SSD and pick up a 128GB on sale for the same price, but only if you're willing to wait a week or two.

  • The Hyper 212 will allow you to overclock, but don't expect miracles from a $30 cooler. If you're looking to overclock a little more without spending the big bucks, look into the Corsair H50 or H101.

    2 -

  • Your goal of 120+ FPS might be a little hard to achieve, especially with FRAPS. TF2 is CPU intensive and looking at some benchmarks from one guy with slightly better specs (i7-920 @ 3.75 GHz, GTX 680), you can probably only hit a steady 100-110 FPS without FRAPS.

  • As I said before, overclocking is very meh, but possible.

  • I went through and checked your parts for Hackintosh issues. I wasn't able to find any, so it looks like you're golden!

Looking for student-cheap speakers for a small dorm room that will be by the desk/computer setup.

Will be connected to a computer. I enjoy any genre (prefer jazz. Enjoy a good bass tho), and will be used to supplement gaming and movies.

Prefer the budget to be sub or equal to $150.

I've seen these two through some quick google searches for being good options

I could be reading it wrong - but it looks like you have coaxial digital out (not optical). https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1212523/Element-Elefw328.html?page=11#manual

Wii can output analog video/audio (red/black/yellow looks like RCA) "out."

SO - perhaps, connect Wii to TV with analog video/audio.

Or the 1280DB's look good too and it looks like they will take coax optical.

Okay, that's wonderful news. I had a client who was looking at the GX pair, and I figured it was more of the looks than anything that got him hooked onto them. I ended up steering him towards the Creative Gigaworks T40's. Although they don't come with a sub, they're pretty damn good quality speakers for non-studio monitors. That would be my recommendation if you want to replace the speakers, and if you could keep the sub with the T40's, that would be even better. If you want to save a little money, even the T20's are great speakers. Highly recommend them to anyone.

I have the Creative Labs T20 speakers -- Creative Labs - GigaWorks T20. They're like $70 on amazon but sometimes go for cheaper and I absolutely love them. I had some Logitech speakers before these (not 2.1) and these blow the Logitech speakers away. Having individual bass and treble control is nice too, not to mention they look pretty good and have detachable speaker grilles.

Audio Engine A2 - Best Sound Quality

I wouldn't go so far as to call them "really good"... just ok compared to other computer speakers they get a pass. The satellites are ok but the sub really sucks; for example, it has a strong peak around 60-70Hz meaning that overpowers other bass notes.

I've heard it and it sounds like a fart box. Also the crossover to the satellites is (necessarily) too high.

I haven't looked into upgrade-ability but at first thought I'm not sure how it makes sense. The sub has a fixed crossover so you can't change that to something more reasonable (and the sub is in need of upgrading anyway), don't really know about the included amplifier....

If you want quality let's look at real speakers.

For simplicity (but lack of upgrade-ability), you can get studio monitors (essentially powered speakers like the klipsch) e.g:

M-Audio BX5 D2

Mackie CR4.

For flexibility, you'd want separate amplifier and passive speakers (that way you can upgrade either one whenever you want). Something like this:

u/djdementia · 4 pointsr/Beatmatch

What is your purpose? Is this for practicing at home? Do your neighbors live close by or need to keep the volume low? Do you need speakers you can use for small get togethers or even small house parties?

These are monitor speakers. Monitor speakers are designed to sound really good for exactly one person in one small spot in the room very close to the speakers. That's why it's a "Monitor" a monitor like a computer monitor is generally for one person at close distances. Monitors aren't going to work well for a house party (think of 20 people trying to gather around a computer video monitor trying to watch a movie) but are probably OK for < 5 people hanging out in one room.

If that is what you need then this will fit your desires. It won't have a lot of bass though, which may be an advantage if you need to keep your volumes low however it is a disadvantage for most DJ's to have limited bass.

If you really want monitors personally I think the best price to performance is the JBL LSR-305 monitors they are the current king of Monitor speakers IMHO and fairly priced.

If you need a more general purpose DJ speakers that cost around the same, but have significantly more bass and can be used for get togethers and house parties up to say 20-30 people then I recommend Logitech Z-623. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX are a good choice also but not sure if available in Europe.

So, the consensus on "computer speakers" is that they are in general garbage. What is considered really good quality to buy is referred to as "bookshelf speakers." something like this or this.

Somethings to be aware of is that there are power and unpowered speakers, meaning that you need an amplifier to use unpowered speakers. In this case, both that I linked are powered, but you should do some research on what you want in a speaker.

The reason while I linked the Rosewill ones is because you sound like a basshead, and those are pretty bassy speakers, so look into those.

In my experience, 5.1 and 7.1 setups are just cheap gimmicks. Think of it like this: Two quality drivers is much better than 7 different mediocre/shitty ones. Unless you're spending like 500 bucks on them.

u/alsweet · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I've been using the Audioengine A2+ and I love them. Sound great, well built, beautiful design and nice and small so they are great desk speakers.

u/MUSAFFA1 · 2 pointsr/audio

Honestly, any $10 speakers you buy from Amazon will be louder and sound infinitely better than your laptop. These would work fine ($10):

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-S120-2-0-Multimedia-Speakers/dp/B000R9AAJA/ref=lp_172471_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1409097140&sr=1-4

If you would like more portability, I recommend this($15):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/130953421267?lpid=82

It's loud, battery powered (rechargeable), sounds great for it's size, and fills a room nicely with it's side-firing speakers. I've watched dozens of movies with it clipped to the top of my laptop and I find myself still amazed at how good it sounds for what it is.

And for what it's worth, a teacher friend of mine recently bought one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Kustom-PA50-Personal-PA-System/dp/B0064S0FHU/ref=pd_cp_MI_2

Yes, it's double your budget but the applications for this device in a school are endless. Multiple mics/instruments and an AUX input for ipod or PC. Maybe you could get the school to pay for half? LOL

u/concentus7 · 1 pointr/hometheater

That's a pretty tight budget, but if you can stretch an extra $30, my top choice would be a pair of Edifier R1280DB's. If you want a step up in quality, I would recommend the Audioengine A2+.

You can also go the passive route and get something like the Dayton DTA-2.1BT2 amp and a pair of budget passive speakers like the Micca RB42's. That amp will also give you the ability to add a subwoofer later if you want.

The folks over at r/BudgetAudiophile can probably give you even more options.

u/IntrovPC · 1 pointr/headphones

I saw someone ask for an amp here a while back, so I'm sorry if this sint the place (I've looked for a place to ask for amps on the sidebar and wiki but cant find it, just guides)

I have the Audio Technica ATH M50x on the way, and I have some cash left over, about $60, and was wondering if I could benefit from an amp/DAC in that price range. Nothing special, but I've heard that having an amp can help in some cases, and I think they're nice looking on a desk.

Budget: 0-$60 USD

Source: My PC, also this old, low priced stereo setup I have can be used.

Thanks if anyone can help, if this is the wrong place please let me know (and maybe link me to the right place). Thanks!!

u/phobos2deimos · 2 pointsr/audio

More than your budget, but worth checking out.
A $150 2.1 setup will sound way better than a $150 5.1 setup.
MAudio AV40 - very well regarded at that price.
Audioengine A2 - another great choice.
Swan D1010 IV Couldn't find the D1080 in stock any more, but these have excellent reviews and the price is right.

u/BTsBaboonFarm · 1 pointr/vinyl

For $250ish, assuming you want new gear, do the following:

  • Turntable: U-Turn Orbit Basic - $179

  • Phono Preamplifier: Pyle 999 - $14

  • Speakers: Edifier R980T - $70

It's just slightly above your budget, but worth the added cost. Absolutely do not skimp on the turntable! Can't stress that enough. That U-Turn is the cheapest turntable I'll ever recommend - it won't ruin your records, won't skip on dynamic passages, shouldn't have speed issues, etc; AND it will give you adequate sound.

The Pyle phono-preamp is bare bones. About the cheapest you're going to find.

You could just opt for cheaper computer speakers to get you under $250, but those Edifiers are okay for the price.

But honestly, I'd encourage you to look for vintage/used equipment. A lot more bang for your buck in that arena at your price range.
u/Gambara1 · 0 pointsr/audiophile

Hey guys! I'm looking for some cheap ass speakers for my computer, so they don't need something super special with an amp and a sub woofer. P.S I know nothing about speakers. I want these speakers because I have a gaming computer and I want to be able to play a game without using my headphones all the time. My budget is super cheap and I'll most likely be using these speakers for the next year or 2 until I save up for a dope bookshelf speaker setup. (Basically I'll be back here in a year or so to ask for help again.) Also if they can play music/YouTube kinda good that's a plus.

My budget: $50

My own choices are below. (I don't know if they're any good but there below)

Choice 1: https://www.amazon.ca/Creative-A250-Multimedia-Speaker-System/dp/B00CDJJZV6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496018863&sr=8-1&keywords=creative+a250

Choice 2: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00EZ9XLEY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_img?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1BG327DW8P9PW&coliid=INT5NHSC7PCBR&psc=1

Choice 3: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836280008 (These are sold out but they looked promising? This is also coming from someone who knows nothing about speakers!)

Also I live in Canada so it would be great if they're in Canadian price.

u/GramboLazarus · 1 pointr/realdubstep

Fair enough - but a cursory glance at amazon, and if you're looking for 10'' woofers you're spending this guy's budget a least a couple of times over and that'll still only get you one speaker which I think we can all agree on is just silly. I said a subwoofer isn't optional because at the price point, the speakers you're going to be looking at just aren't going to have the size or power needed to get decent sub-bass. Honestly, if you want something super easy to set up and won't break your bank I was using these logitech speakers for years until I bought my stereo set up. Loads of volume, and it has a bass knob you can turn down if neighbours are getting pissy.

u/rsantoro · 1 pointr/hometheater

People don't generally associate home theater stuff with computer speakers which is why you'll get downvoted but I will answer your questions and say these speakers http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO have lasted me 4 years now and they are awesome. They can get pretty loud as well. I would recommend even getting a cheap sound card on your desktop though to really make them shine. Anyone who says onboard audio is just as good has never used a sound card or hasn't used a sound card in a long time.

u/Kokiran · 1 pointr/buildapc

These speakers are cheap but provide great sound. I use them and am very pleased with them. They have a great quality and the subwoofer works quite well.

Hi there,

I'd like to upgrade my audio setup, which is OK, but not great. Here's what I currently have going on:

Turntable: Pro-Ject - Debut Carbon DC (Black)

Speakers: Audioengine A2+ Premium Powered Desktop Speakers - Pair (Black)

Preamp: BEHRINGER MICROPHONO PP400

I think the Pro-Ject is OK for me right now, but I'm thinking about upgrading my speakers, and potentially purchasing a receiver (as opposed to my preamp into speakers set up right now). I've started buying some cassettes, so would also love to buy a cassette deck at some point and also be able to plug it into my receiver.

Anyone have any tips? I am admittedly still a bit of a novice, so any advice much appreciated. :)

I also have a couple of these: Audio-Technica AT95E/HSB Headshell/Cartridge Combo Kit (AT95E Cartridge and AT-HS10BK Headshell) lying around the apartment. Is it possible to replace my Pro-Ject needle with one of these bad boys / if so, anyone know of a good explainer for how to do it?

Thanks!

u/ironfixxxer · 5 pointsr/buildapc

Two RAM sticks is still better than a single for that sweet sweet dual channel performance boost.... which isn't really that noticeable in day to day tasks or gaming.

For $50 speakers I recommend the [Logitech Z323.] (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Speaker-System-Z323-Subwoofer/dp/B002FU5QM0/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1504790455&sr=1-8&keywords=logitech+speakers) I use them in the bedroom for our HTPC. Great sound for the price.

Are you using a 1080p\60Hz monitor? I think budget may be better spent dropping the GTX 1080 and getting a GTX 1060 3GB (not overpriced) and adding an SSD. The SSD will help greatly with day to day tasks.

u/SheepishMoose · 3 pointsr/vinyl

They're decent, to be honest I had a couple of these babies hooked up originally, but the tweeters were already a bit blown from my computer. I had my eye on the SP BS22s, they dropped down to $60 for the pair (which they do every few months) and I decided to jump on it. They're very comparable to the Bose, and those were great speakers for a long time.

Plain and simple, you're not going to be able to touch anything else in the $60 range when compared to these, they really do produce great sound. Set up a price alert with camelcamelcamel and in a few months you'll get these babies half price, totally worth it.

u/FallenKnightGX · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

Hi,

This is a great post. I was wondering if you may have some insight on an issue I've had with these headphones. People say the sound is amazing but when I first got them they sounded very flat. Like the treble was too low. So I adjusted that on my PC and it sounds okay.

But in reality it sounds almost exactly like my PC speakers which are:

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 - Always on sale by the way. Never buy these at full price, check SlickDeals.

Now when I was younger my brother had a pair of sound cancelling headphones that I feel produced much better sound. Unfortunately, I don't have a link to them as this was years ago but they were heavy duty with the twisted cord and all.

I know the Phillips are open ear phones. Am I allowing my old nostaglia from when I was young to influence my negatively on how I am enjoying these headphones? Or do I need an amp / something else to bring these things to life? I have an ASUS motherboard w/a dedicated capacitors for sound so I don't really know maybe it's my expectations were too high or not correct?

u/editjames · 8 pointsr/audiophile

It's a beauty! I'm very new to the audiophile world. Eventually I want to get a nice vintage turntable. Right now they are hooked up to Audioengine A2 Premium Powered Desktop Speakers. I don't think this is a good pair. I am looking for something vintage but sounding and looking great. Hopefully with a mid century modern look. I love the look of these Dynaco A-25s. But not sure if I should limit myself to finding those exact speakers. Anyone have any speaker suggestions for this receiver?

Probably the best bet under $100. If you were willing to spend more, I would definitely have different recommendations for you! :) Hope this helps, let me know if you don't like those or want something different.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

These are extremely good speakers for pretty much anything. They are also a pretty damn good value. You could probably find them cheaper elsewhere if you shopped around. I have them and love them. Pretty much the next step up is a receiver and speakers (nice ones, not the $30 store brand ones) for a lot more money.

A way that is just as simple but would sound infinitely better would be thus:

  • Get a spring tank, such as one out of a cheap fender amp or a replacement spring tank online, or two for stereo, and a set of cheap computer speakers, such as these. The spring tank you get will be dependent on the computer speakers, so buy the computer speakers first and look to see the ohmage of the actual speakers, then buy a spring tank (or two) that matches the ohms.

  • Once you have the computer speakers and the spring tank(s), rip the guts out of the computer speakers and cut the leads going to the speakers and to the input plug.

  • Solder the leads that originally went to the speakers to wire that will connect to the input terminal(s) of the spring tank(s), and instead of the input plug solder a stereo or two mono 1/4" jacks.

  • From the output of the spring tank(s), solder either a 1/4" plug or a 1/4" jack.

  • Connect this to your interface and use the pres on your interface as makeup gain for the tanks.

  • Spring reverb, driven by inductors and not by a speaker magnet, receiving a full range signal from a cheap premade amp and with clean gain made up by your interface or other outboard pres.

  • Profit.

I am currently in the market for a 2.1 Speaker Set for less than €60 to use with my PC. The best speakers I could find were these two: the Logitech Z313 and the Creative A250.

The reviews I've read about them said that they were fairly good speakers (considering their price) but also said that the sound quality was not the best. (Review)

Now my questions are: Which is the best out of them? or if possible, Which would be the best 2.1 Speaker Set for less than €60?

Thanks!

I have these & love them:: http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-BX5-D2-Monitor-Speakers/dp/B005F3H6Q8 but pretty much any of those listed will do just fine, if you get the 8s though you'll hear more lows, which would be good if you're making bass heavy music. The rokit5 that I tested seem to have boosted bass which I didn't like personally, but a lot of people love those monitors.

u/clandark · 1 pointr/vinyl

Probably going to get buried in here, but what the hell. I bought my first turntable a year or so ago, that being the very stopgap budget buy of an AT-LP60 Fully Automatic Stereo Turntable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002GYTPAE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

A short while ago, probably around its year anniversary it started to play at funky speeds and after buying a replacement belt and trying the manual speed adjustment it became apparent it was never going to play my records at the right speed again.

I've started a new job and am a couple paychecks in and I am now searching for a new turntable in the region of $400. I've been drawn to the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC and was wondering if that would be a purchase that I'd be happy with for a decent amount of time. I won't call myself an audiophile, but I have started a modest collection of records and want to be able to play them on a quality and aesthetically pleasing turntable. Basically I'm asking if this turntable is worth the buy, or if I should think about a different one in the same price range (or even splurge and buy the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit DC at around $600).

I'm open to hearing anyone's experience about these Pro-Ject record players (turntables?) as well as any further counsel on a different option.

Also, I bought these Bose powered speakers with the Audio Technica record player (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CD1PTF0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and wanted to know if they would pair well with a record player in the $400 price range.

Thanks to anyone who reads this and gives me a response, I didn't expect for it to be this long when I started typing.

u/roberts585 · 3 pointsr/projectors

Honestly any Amazon cheap ass speaker is gonna sound way better than projector speaker audio, even "cheap" speakers will sound way better. Look at these Logitech Speaker System Z323 with Subwoofer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002FU5QM0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_U8FVBb9D3FSS0

It's 45 bucks, stereo speaker and a sub, you can plug an auxiliary cord in to play music or a Chromecast audio and boom. This was just a quick Amazon search and I'm sure there's better options for powered speakers as these really are made for a computer but just showing g you that you really can get a cheap setup and it won't destroy your bulb life when you just want to listen

To answer your question no there is no way to get just audio out of the projector, best bet is to just throw something on the screen to enjoy, but honestly just splurge for a cheap powered stereo setup.

Thursday was my last day. It wasn't the worst thing ever, but goddamn I am so sick of fucking drive thru.

In other news, I'm finally moving to Duluth next Wednesday. I think I'm pretty comfortable with job stuff, but if anybody knows of anything good I'd love to hear about it.

Also, I got some money from amazon for sending in textbooks and I think I'm going to get a new monitor and possibly some speakers for when I'm not using my headphones. After doing a bit of research, I've landed on the AOC G2460PF and Logitech Z323. Anybody familiar with either of those?

It's pretty small which is what I'm looking for. Do you have a better recommendation than something like this? Keep in mind my range is like $50-$200 and I don't plan on using these a ton.

u/lpmagic · 3 pointsr/buildapc

I, honestly, run my whole set up through a full onkyo receiver, allowing me the great sound of a full 9.2 HT. The connections can and are easy now with most decent receivers having network slots, with the caveat that you get the ability to plug in multiple sources. This of course is much beyond your budget, but might be a decent long term goal.

Computer speakers in general are kind of crap in the audiophile world at large it is much more effective to use a full system if you can integrate it.

the M-Audio studio monitors give decent sound, but the best speakers I have ever had that were simply dedicated to my P.C., bar none, were the klipsch audio pro-media 2.1:

http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO

like I said, were you to ask a full on audiophile, they would tell you it was potentially a waste, but from the standpoint of what is reasonable on a computer, these were far and away my favorites.

Is there something like this for PC sound systems?

I don't want the absolute cheapest system that you guys are willing to recommend, but I certainly can't afford the top tier. My budget is between $300-$600.

Right now I'm rocking Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, so I imagine pretty much anything I buy that's recommended here will be a huge step up for me.

I just want to replace my current speakers and sub with something quality, something you audiophiles would approve of. As the purchasing advice guide eloquently words it, I'm looking for a "wicked complete computer audio setup". I have a vague idea that I will need an amp or DAC or something to connect the speakers and sub to my computer... but I'm not sure what specs/features I will need to hook everything up.

This setup will primarily be used for listening to music (in FLAC) and playing video games. In case it's relevant I also have my plasma TV and a soundbar hooked up to this computer (I switch the sound output in Windows between my computer speakers and the TV soundbar as needed). I'm not trying to upgrade from the soundbar just yet, but I mention this because I'm wondering if perhaps an AVR (Audio/Video Receiver?) would be better than a DAC for my situation. (If I understand correctly, an AVR performs the same function as a DAC + a bunch of features such as sub integration and video.)

I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions that you guys are willing to provide.

A friend of mine uses these, and they sound pretty good for the cost. Obviously not studio monitors or anything, but Logitech seems to do a good job of having pretty well balanced and not-too-tinny sounding speakers in this price range. There are a few other 2.1's from Logitech at varying price points, these are just the only ones I've heard personally. Obviously there are tons of non-Logitech 2.1's, but they seem to be good all around speakers, without getting into super high audio quality price points.

If you can tolerate the monitor speakers long enough to save another $50, the Audioengine A2s are fantastic. I've got a pair and they are great, a lot of power in a very compact space. Plus they look really nice (I think so anyway).

If $150 is a hard limit, I've seen the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40s on a few people's setups and they seem to be well liked. Plus they're on sale at the moment. I can't speak for how they perform though.

u/bro_b1_kenobi · -1 pointsr/headphones

Bought these for a 16 hour flight. I needed good quality cans that could tune out babies and flight attendants.

Also replacing my shitty pseudo-5.1 Triton's for streaming/recording. With MXL 550 as my new mic.

The sound so far is excellent. I hooked it up to my Denon AVR1612 receiver and watched the first part of a Game of Thrones episode and listened to some music. For entertainment, they sound great. I have yet to test them as reference cans with video and sound editing, but will soon. I'd like to see how they compare the my M-AUDIO BX5 D2 reference monitors, as having cans similar to monitors is important.

The only negative I've found so far is that they're a little more flexible than I'd like. When I first saw them I thought they'd be nice and rigid, but they do not seem poorly built. I suppose their flexibility (about 1" give in either direction) is meant for consumers who may toss them in a laptop case. I did buy a rigid case for travel so I'm not worried about damage.

Anyone else own these? Thoughts?

Hello, fairly new to reddit. still trying to navigate my way around.

I am looking for a new pc speakers for my computer setup. Budget is $60-80. I have looked at Edifiers (980T) and Creative Labs.

Creative Labs:
https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Wireless-Bluetooth-Computer-Communication/dp/B00EVWX8R0?ref_=ast_sto_dp

https://www.amazon.com/Creative-51MF1610AA002-GigaWorks-Multimedia-Technology/dp/B001RNOHDU?ref_=ast_sto_dp

Any other suggestions would help and should I get an AMP/DAC. Not a streamer (not yet), just an art student who watches youtube (hate my monitor speakers), listens to music (no preference, any), and does gaming.

Would really appreciate the help in deciding. :)

Is that something that might be good? Like really loud and heavy? My friend had one a few years ago and I remember it being really nice but idk

u/clothing_throwaway · 1 pointr/audiophile

My dad gave me these older Bose Companion 2 speakers from almost 10 years ago. I've used them ever since--excluding a short period of time where my old audiophile-esque roommate gave me a couple of his old speakers, which he said were good but honestly I wouldn't be able to tell you if they were or not, let alone what they were even called.

Anyway, since the go-to budget recommendation seems to be the Micca PB42X speakers, would those be a significant upgrade from what I already have (see above), or would it be more like a parallel move? Or even a downgrade? And if that's the case, does anyone have any other recommendations at around the $100 price point?

Ultimately, I'm looking for something that is simple and inexpensive but still good, plus I have a pretty small computer desk now too, so something that isn't a massive setup.

And also...considering everything I said above, should I be worried about DACs or Amps? I don't even totally understand them tbh, but should I consider investing in one or the other? Or both?

u/Skeezix · 7 pointsr/audio

meh(scroll down to the UPDATE: area to see the relevant section).

Before even seeing that review, I was going to recommend Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, which can usually be found for less than a hundred dollars on your local Craigslist(I got a perfectly working set from 2009 for $70). Yes, they're old, but yes, they're still the king of awesome/cheap, for the most part.

Don't bother with the wireless ones unless you find them at a comparable price (which you probably won't).

Otherwise, there's always the M-Audio AV40 (mark I, not II) if you're more into accurate reproduction of sound.

If neither of these is expensive enough for your tastes, I shall bow and take my leave, as you will need to find another product specialist to help in your higher-end range. I've never felt the need to spend $400+ on computer speakers, but perhaps when I own a home I'll get something along those lines. The z5500 is still an excellent set, though, so I'm not sure what you're looking for...

u/sharkamino · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

3.5mm extension cord for headphones or speakers.

Yes, the Luna are more compact and look better, however the other Edifiers may sound just as good for $100 less.

Yes connect the speakers to the computer with the 3.5mm cable. Or digital optical connection if you computer has it to the 1280s. Or add a USB DAC. No reason to use Bluetooth for desktop use.

The 1700 have a bit better drivers or amp than the 1280. The 1700 are angled back to aim at your ears. The 1280 add a digital optical input. With the 1280 it is best to get stands to raise them up to ear level or aim them back with a speaker wedge. The Edifiers are also available on Amazon.

Another basic model is Edifier R980T $69.

>what the difference is between "faux 5.1" and true 5.1 sound

True 5.1 comes from 5 actual speakers and a subwoofer (the .1 part of 5.1). Faux 5.1, while I've not seen that term used, would be trying to create the 5.1 experience with fewer speakers. Some headphones do this and while a good pair can be convincing to your ears it's not real 5.1 surround.

5.1, or Surround Sound, gives direction to the sound. In movies most of the dialog comes from the center speaker because the actors are in front of you, sounds occurring to the left or right of the screen come from the left or right speaker respectively. The rears are mostly used for ambient, non directional, sounds.

>Do I need a sound card........Does the quality of the sound card affect much

No and it depends.

The on board audio is very good these days. You'd want a sound card if you were really serious about getting the absolute best sound reproduction. There's a quality difference but for most things you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

>Do only special sources offer 5.1, such as Blu-ray?

Most DVDs and pretty much all Blu-rays will have 5.1 sound as well as many games. Not so much for music.

>Should I consider a system with a soundbar, or one with many speakers?

No sound bars, they're crap. They range from real crap to almost decent crap but they're still crap.

>Is there a noticeable quality or price difference between wired and wireless or Bluetooth?

Can't speak to the price difference but I'd be suspect of wireless and only go that route if you absolutely can't run wire to the rear speakers. Just as with networking, wired is best, more reliable.

>Do I need a receiver

No, your motherboard has everything you need. Look at the manual, it explains how to connect a 5.1 system, what gets plugged into what. You can hook up to a receiver and add any speakers you want but it's not necessary, a good PC speaker set will do you just fine.

>What are some better recommendations?

Logitech has a good range PC speakers, the inexpensive to the expensive (for a PC speaker system). And then there's the insanely expensive.

Read the reviews, pay attention to the speaker wire length, especially for the rear speakers. The more expensive ones may have more, and more convenient, controls.

Depending on your room you may want to put the rears on a stand.

u/EnsCausaSui · 1 pointr/buildapc

I like everything but the speakers, and cooling system.

With an X99 build, I would upgrade to the H105 or H110 cooler.

The speakers aren't awful, but if you're willing shell out a bit more for a better 2.1 system, the entry level Klipsch 2.1 system is a great value:

There is a vendor selling it at $150 right now.

You could just buy a cheap amp if the speakers are actually any good?

But on the issue of powered monitors, I'm using a pair of M-Audio BX5d2 Monitors that I really enjoy as great value for money.

Not sure about all the 2.1 stuff, but I just got these and they sound great to me. Just enough bass. The highs and lows sound good, and the volume control pod is a very nice addition. When I ordered them they were only $30, looks like they went up in price since then.

u/ChrisGrant1995 · 2 pointsr/macsetups

They are these ones [here.]
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015C30J0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) For $30 I don't think you will find a better set of speakers on Amazon, and I am a fan of them, considering the price, but from what I have heard from friends that actually know about speakers, these are the best set of speakers you can get under $50 on amazon.

u/Double_Damn_Son · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Just like with anything, you can spend 50 bucks on speakers or 50k. Given the set up you have, I wouldn't even bother trying to make the sound system wireless. I suspect that the wires would be behind the desk. I think these systems would both be an upgrade for you, and they would have relatively the same footprint on/below your desk.

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z623-Watt-Speaker-System/dp/B003VAHYTG

https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO

I see both sets go on sale occasionally for 100 or less. I have had that Logitech set for 5+ years at this point. I have never had any problems with them. I also have at least three friends with the same system, and they have had no issues either. I can't speak about the Klipsch set, but I usually see people with good things to say about them. It looks like both systems are around 200w, and I think yours may be less than 50w. You can expect a lot more bass, without a doubt.

The SoundSticks look like something from the Jetsons cartoon, so they do have that going. I certainly wouldn't throw them away.

u/pppjurac · 1 pointr/audio

On those two, judging by verified reviews build quality is 'meh' and sound quality is mediocre, which is normal for the price. Personally I would stay away from such product no matter price.

If you could get hands on set of used active studio monitors that would be best solution (linear response, mostly good build quality). For such low budget it is really only option - buy used. See how at /r/BudgetAudiophile do it.

Or as honglorn said, get Klipsch set. Save some dollars and buy those a week or two later. It is popular set and works, judging by reviews, quite well.

Simple Audio Listen vs Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

I really want a good set of audiophile speakers. I've never owned one, nor know what to look for. I just know I definitely can appreciate the differences between average speakers and really good ones. Maybe not be able to distinguish between two sets of audiophile speakers, but just need to know if these Simple Audio Listens are worth the money at $161 shipped vs Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers. Keep in mind, if I buy the Simple Audio Listen, I will add a sub woofer, so please don't give the Kipsch extra points for the included sub woofer, nor rate either based on the price since right now, the price points are too similar.

Details pros and cons, even if too technical for me, or just general opinions very welcomed. Thank you!

u/GoDawgs34 · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

I have been addicted to this subreddit trying to set up the same thing at my place. Basically creating a Sonos system but with Chromecast audio. Living room 2.1 (Fluance SX6 bookshelf's, Dayton powered sub, and I still need help with my amplifier) and speakers in the kitchen, bed room and bathroom.

I think I've decided to only worry about a proper system in the living room. I think i just might slowly pick up a few of these Bose multimedia speakers.

I feel like the point of this subreddit is to get people to steer away from these type of speakers (Bose, Logitech, etc) setting up good audio makes sense in a living room, listening room or desktop but for multi room audio I don't think it makes sense. The returns aren't there for the investment. How much better are the powered Micca MB42s gonna sound vs a nice multimedia speaker setup?

u/NeedFilmAdvice · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

Wow, that was super helpful! I had a feeling the mixing aspect was going to be a big driver in the choice.

All of my video editing is for fun. Short film projects for local competitions. The only thing for pay I would do is wedding videos, so trying to decide how essential perfect mixing headphones are for that. If I decide to forget the mixing aspect, it sounds like X2 may be the right choice here. But if mixing is something I want to do pseudo-seriously, then HD598.

For mixing right now, I have a 2.1 speaker setup at the PC. I use the [Klipsche ProMedia 2.1 speakers](https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO), which I'm sure might make professional mixers cringe, but it's what I've used to date in my projects. Would the HD598 or HD6XX+amp be better for mixing than just using that 2.1 setup?

What would be the amp you'd recommend for the HD6XX? And what would be the lowest cost amp that would still make the HD6XX the preferred choice? I'll have to re-evaluate my budget for this one.

Klipsch Promedia 2.1. The sub is a little bulky from a minimalist point of view, but not as bad as other 2.1 systems. Great sound for that price range. I listened to a lot of different ones, before deciding on those.

They are only $140 at Best Buy, but I couldn't get that link to format right.

u/polypeptide147 · 3 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Pretty much stay away from anything that is a 2.1 system, such as the Klipsch you mentioned. Also, definitely stay away from Logitech.

Let me make that Micca setup 'plug n play' for you.

Going from your computer, use this cable to plug into this amplifier. Then, use these cables to plug the amp into the speakers. In the long run, you're pluging two more things in than you would if you were plugging in just a pair of powered speakers.

Basically, a speaker that you want doesn't exist. Something the same size as your Logitechs, has a subwoofer, has a headphone output, and sounds good, all for under $140 just isn't a thing. The setup I mentioned is the closest you'll get. You can add a subwoofer if you need to in the future.

I'll list a few options that do fit everything you want, except for budget:

Micca OoO - They're small and will fit. Topping MX3 - Amplifier with a headphone out. Dayton SUB-800 - the cheapest subwoofer you can buy.

Audioengine A2+ - Small speakers. The problem, however, is that speakers don't have headphone outputs. So, you'd need to do that manually. Schiit SYS - output switcher. Send one signal to the speakers and the other to an amp for your headphones.

What I'm trying to get at here is that you don't really have a 'perfect' solution to your problem. The first one I linked to with the Miccas is probably your best bet.

Picked these up a while ago and I love them. Eventually upgraded to a "better" pair. They produce a clear high, and a tight bass for $40 bucks, obviously not as good as a set of KEF or Bowers speakers. They have a little disk that you can place on your desk, out of the way, and it controls the volume, has a headphone jack, 3.5mm aux jack for your phone, and overall has a very good sound from the speakers/sub. I'm currently running a set of Bose speakers that cost about $150 and I honestly liked the cybers a lot more. I gave the cybers to a friend and he got wet over them. Maybe because they were free? Overall, the sound isolation and quality of my personal P7 headphones beat out every pair of speakers at any price point without the proper amp, granted they were $300, but hey. At $40 these will surely not disappoint! :)

Please never buy logitech speakers if you care even slightly about sound quality.

My recommendation for your price range is the Audioengine A2 mini monitors. I own a pair of these myself and they have excellent sound quality for such a small set of monitors.

Furthermore, they are capable of a surprising amount of volume (without losing clarity). I keep my pair of A2s at our office, and have used them during office parties with about 50 - 75 people in a relatively small space, and the music is easily heard over the talking.

The one drawback of small monitors is that they lack some of the low end, especially sub bass, that larger monitors are able to produce. Depending on what you're willing to spend and how much space you have, you could use a separate subwoofer if this is problematic. But with that in mind, the A2s are a very clear and balanced set of monitors for their size and certainly produce enough low end that you won't miss it entirely.

u/gotmoveslikejagger · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I see you copping that END action 😎

Absolutely love the aesthetics of your room. If you're ever planning on getting new speakers, I'd highly recommend the white Audioengines, I think they'd go great with your setup.

u/TheRabbitBandit · 3 pointsr/audiophile

My friend had a pair of M-Audio AV 40s and the Dayton sub 1000. I ended up getting the sub as well because of clean the bass is. Inside the room it would feel like a hurricane and outside you could only hear the doorknob rattling. Perfect for the dorms. As for the monitors something from Audiengine or KRK would do well even without the sub.

u/awesomesauce1414 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Well there's a few options for you here. There's these, which I have a highly recommend. Fluance SX6. Or a cheaper yet still apparently great set of Micca speakers that are quite a bit smaller. These both require something like this to power it, along with some speaker wire and maybe banana plugs. You could also get some powered Audioengine A2
's
. Those shouldn't require an amp. Overall I would highly recommend taking the plunge into quality sound equipment. I myself would buy the fluance one's again but it's up to you. The cost is most definitely worth it when it comes to these speakers.

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 goes on sale every once in a while at /r/buildapcsales and lots of people say they've owned the set for 5-7+ years and rave about them. I just purchased mine and have yet to set it up. I like hearing/feeling bass with my noises and that's exactly what these do.

The LP60 comes with a built in preamp, which is a great feature, but do you have a receiver, or power amp? If not, make sure you get active aka powered speakers. They're powered, under budget, and it looks like they accept multiple input sources, meaning you'd be able to use an aux cord (or BT if you pay extra) to use them for your phone or computer as well. Just don't expect them to be shaking the walls down--they're 9 inches high and 20 Watts.

You would have to move your computer brain to the floor because it's taking up a lot of space and then you could put your speakers on the side of your monitors. That's the only thing I didn't like about having big speakers, they take up too much space, that's why I put my studio monitors in storage and got these.

They fit under my main monitor and sound great. It is a bit odd to buy such big speakers and not set them up to get the best sound, might as well get something smaller. But if you like it, then that's all that matters. Cool setup by the way.

Hi all. I'm looking for a compatible wall mount for a trusty pair of Klipsch Promedia 2.1's.

I've read that universal wall mounts (e.g. Monoprice or BB) would do the trick but when I look at what's on offer (e.g. here) I can't wrap my head around how they would fit. If anyone could point me to a specific pair that would work I'd greatly appreciate it.

For reference, here are the (discontinued) Klipsch wall brackets from Klipsch, which I can't seem to find in the wild.

Thanks!!

Under $150 is a hard area to recommend. Most people will tell you here that you'd be much better off saving a bit more. These speakers are a very good value for money. You can even use a usb input in case your computer is noisy. They also have 3.5mm input so no adapter needed. If you can save a bit more, the bigger brothers to these speakers, the A5+ offer a very big step up in performance. Overall though I don't think I personally would recommend anything less than these speakers.

u/jman837 · 0 pointsr/macsetups

I have the bose companion 2 speakers They look great and give pretty good sound. Not too small but pretty good. They recently came out with a series 3 but I haven't tried them yet.

u/studentofcubes · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

There's a cheap set of Logitechs with a sub and dial for like 55 that I use but ideally I would like the razer cylindrical ones for the aesthetic.

I got these because they look simple and undistracting, function well at the volume I like to listen at, and included a dial.

This is what I would get if I had money to throw away

Sorry. I see now that this comment is completely unhelpful

u/BeardedAlbatross · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

For passive speakers you have the Wharfedale Diamond 220, and stretching your budget you have the Q Acoustics 3020. For a small amp that'll work there's the Gemtune (SMSL) SA-50.

For active speakers with an amp built-in the M-Audio BX5 DA on sale for £150. Seems like a pretty good deal tbh.

u/MOODYS_BOOTYSMOOTHIE · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I would go one of two ways:

If you want a more accurate reproduction of sound for your personal listening environment, look into studio monitors. They will be more focused on clarity and use better components, like active crossovers. If you will ever be into any type of audio/video editing or really enjoy the finner detais, this is the ideal road.

This for example:
https://www.amazon.com/Mackie-CR-CR3-Reference-Multimedia/dp/B00KVEIY4E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484435931&sr=8-2&keywords=studio+monitor

If you just want something good, but louder and with more low end, look into a 2.1 setup. more consumer based. ~50-100 would be enough to satisfy you since it seems you primarily use headphones.

Random example:
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Watts-Multimedia-Speakers-980-001203/dp/B0151K2AB0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1484436731&sr=8-5&keywords=logitech+2.1

u/AddMeOnReddit · 2 pointsr/battlestations
I don't think they're studio monitors. They look like Audio Engine A2+'s.
If you want some good monitors with good looks I recommend the Yamaha HS5's.

I've always been quite happy with Creative's budget offerings for speakers - the Creative A250 speaker set seems to offer good performance for its price. I have the older A220 set and am very happy with it.

I haven't investigated VGA to HDMI scalers as my monitor does a good job of it on its own and I'm not a fan of scanlines (though I don't play many 2D fighting games, which seem to be the games which benefit the most).

u/bigj231 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I have the Logitech Z523. If you love bass, it's a great system. If you like a more balanced sound, pick something else. They do fit your criteria though.

Yeah, I have a cheap Logitech 2.1 circa 2004. I mean, it's better than the cheapest Logitech speakers you can get (which in turn were better than my iPhone). It actually has a little bass and treble extension. I brought it into work for playing Netflix in the background when working overtime :). I also bought the Creative Gigaworks T40 (for a lot less than that price... Wow) and they were surprisingly good for computer speakers under $100. I needed something slim, and no one on headfi had any ideas at the time.

I missed the bookshelf systems, myself. Over the course of several early '90s birthdays and Christmases, my parents helped me assemble a component system. I bought my Onkyo receiver at Circuit City :). My dad even donated his old Fisher speakers and helped me rebuild them. I'm not sure he's ever been prouder than when I asked for a multimeter for Christmas ;)

u/kor56 · 1 pointr/hardware

I would advise against those "home theater systems." They are nice and compact, but "nice and compact" isn't usually a good thing for speakers.

If I were you, I would pick up some nice powered monitors with a >5" cone, and no sub woofer. The sub that comes with those packages probably has a 6", maybe 8" driver, and often is turned up too much, which is why a lot of cheap systems sound kind of "farty." If you get a nice monitor you will have much clearer sound. Powered monitors usually have 1 RCA connector, which would probably go to the TV's sound output. Then if you have a DVD player hooked up to your tv over HDMI, you can also get sound from that.

I use some bookshelf speakers (dm-602's from ebay) and a reconditioned denon reciever from ecost (you can get one of these for >$150). I've heard good things about these as well.

Also, speaker stands. If you do go the monitor/bookshelf route (and you should), get some speaker stands.

>do I just need a pre-amp and then powered speakers and I'm good to go?

Yes

>When will I need a receiver?

If you ever wish to use unpowered speakers

>How will I know if speakers are "powered?"

Do they plug into an electrical outlet? If so, they are powered.

>Does anybody have any recommendations?

For powered speakers in a small room, I recommend M-Audio AV-40's. They will do quite well in any room under 200 ft^2. or so. Bigger than that, and you should really look at full size unpowered cabinet speakers with an appropriate receiver.

Looking for computer system speakers (~$100)
I'm looking for the best setup I can get for my PC for $100, I know I may not be able to get super high quality/surround sound, but I want to at least listen to music/watch movies that sound good. I've been looking at these speakers they seem to have everything I want, although I'm not sure. What's the difference between 2.0/2.1 or the other numbers.

Thanks

Hi!!

Super noob question but if I buy the Micca PB42X and 3.5 TRS to RCA am I all set to go? No need for an external DAC or amp?

Also my current set up (which I'm giving away) is a cheap 2.1 (amazon link) so I don't know if I should look for a 2.1 system again or if these MIccas are good enough!

Thanks!

I'm looking for a solid set of speakers (2.0 or 2.1 setup, I'm flexible) for my room at college. I'm in a single-person dorm room, so pretty small, hard surfaces if people factor that in. I like really neutral sound reproduction (I have Shure SRH 840s, and I love the way they sound), especially considering that my music tastes go all over the place. I listen to mostly rock and metal (everything from Zeppelin and Floyd to Dream Theater to Fear Factory to Animals as Leaders, etc. etc.), but also some punk, electronic, pop, rap, folk, and country. I also probably will end up watching TV or movies with these, so that's a factor. I'm gonna be driving these from my custom PC build (no discrete sound card, but I'm willing to add one if it's going to make a huge difference). Only having a wired connection works, but something with Bluetooth would be nice so I can stream music from my tablet or laptop, but it's not a necessity.

So far, thing's I've looked at are:

[Edifier Exclaim e10] (http://www.amazon.com/Edifier-Exclaim-Bi-Amped-Speaker-e10/dp/B009XGH2HG)

[Harman Kardon Soundsticks III] (http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Studiophile-Powered-Speakers-Previous/dp/B000MUXJCO)

[Audioengine A2+] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DQMJE7E/ref=twister_B00KVM3HNO?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

[M-Audio Studiophile AV-40] (http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-Soundsticks-III-Multimedia/dp/B0042F3K9W)

Anything I'm missing, or is one of these a solid option?

Thanks all!

Without knowing where you are located, Amazon UK is your best bet.

These 3 would be good starting points.

M-Audio-BX5-D2 £138.00

M-Audio AV 40 £89.00

Presonus Ceres 4.5 £119.00

if you can stretch the budget a little bit these JBL's will be great.

JBL-LSR305 £116.63 each

Hello!

Me again, back with more questions. I want to say thanks by the way, you're the only person who responded!

If I wanted to buy a sub, would there be any way to connect it, along with the two book shelf speakers, to that amp I have pictured?

Or is a sub even necessary? How loud are these going to be, and how substantial is the bass going to be compared to say, this 2.1 system I'm familiar with?

Thanks very kindly,

u/bauwsel · 1 pointr/Battletops

I'm interested in those Bose Companion 2 Series II speakers, found some for 50$ and they fit the grey of my monitor. Would these be a good pick?

Cable management will be great soon, final setup will be online soon.

Also getting an MX Master 2s, would i still need an oversized mouse pad?

I have the T40 and I love the way they sound for a 2.0 setup. They aren't overly loud, they won't blow you away with quality if you're an audiophile, but for 99% of people they will sound fantastic. The T40s do take up a decent amount of space, but the T20s are a little smaller. I like their look, which isn't over the top and flashy, but subtle and blends in well.

What's you're budget?

For about $150 you can get Klipsch Promeida 2.1. They are honestly the best desktop speakers I have ever used. They sound amazing and incredibly durable. You won't be disappointed.
