I think what you are describing is a mounting arm. Amazon carries a few. I linked one that is a clamp mount and one that is a stand style below:

If you want to go the DIY route, a Microsoft engineer designed a VESA compatible dock that is pretty cool as well. You will need access to a 3D printer however, but it is a cool concept non the less.
