If you get one with quiet keys, and don't look at the screen that often, i assume it wouldn't be much of a distraction or be considered rude by many people. I recently got this chromebook, and it has semi-quiet keys. The screen would probably be too big your your use-case, but it should work just fine for what you'd be doing. The battery lasts me for 12 hours, and everything works just fine :P
