Why don't you go for this Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro Black Edition that has a better graphics card in the GTX 1060 6 GB? It is 15.6 inches, but considering that you will be suing it at college, a 17.3 inches can be a pain in the ass to carry around. This laptop also has a better battery life than the GP72X Leopard Pro- expect close to 6 hours in regular tasks such as surfing the internet, word processing, watching videos etc, and a little less when gaming intensively.

If it is a must that you get the 17.3 inches display, you still have this laptop's 17 inches version.

How important is the battery life to you ? if it is a high priority then I would recommend this Gigabyte Aero 14Wv7-BK4 because it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for gaming, 16 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 512GB for faster boot up and loading, high build quality, very good battery life, 1060 GPU and it is slightly over your budget.

If it is too much out of your budget or screen size is too small then I would recommend this Acer Nitro with simialr specs and battery life for slightly less and with Full HD screen instead of QHD+

For $1650 you can get this Gigabyte P57 that I think is a good fit for you. It's a 17.3" 1080p IPS display, with a 4 hour battery life. Inside the machine is an Intel Kaby lake i7-7700HQ, 16GB of ram, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD, and a GTX 1070 GPU, which will be more than enough to play the games you want. Overall this is a very solid laptop with a sleek and professional appearance while maintaining a ton of power with that gtx 1070.

If you wanted a cheaper option, this Acer V17 goes for $1350 and also has the dual hard drive setup you are looking for with a 1TB HDD and a 256 SSD. The downside to this machine would be that it's a bit heavier and has a less powerful gtx 1060 GPU.

take a look at acer V15 nitro or V17 nitro they are pretty good and are not as bulky and gamer looking like the acer helios 300 plus it even has a 256 GB ssd in addition to the 1000 GB hdd
