I currently use an ASUS MG279Q, it is a 1440P 144hz IPS Freesync display. Other than some typical IPS glow and minor uniformity issues, it's great. I got this second hand from gumtree (Australia) for about 400 AUD.

For monitors, I would suggest getting it second one with warranty on it (mine still has a solid year and a half to go). This is because buying second hand is more predictable (especially if you're easily bothered by uniformity issues) and it can save you a buck for the same monitor!

Nevertheless, here's a list of monitors that may be appropriate for you. I'd assume you want an IPS flat display for its nicer colours, especially if you're going to use the monitor for extended periods of time. The reason why you would like a flat panel is that texts on curved panels have minor artifacts, and this is important because you do programming. However, it could be fixed using windows text calibrator.

On a personal note, I had a C24G1 at one point, it was ok... but backlight bleed and ghosting (due to slow response times *slowest out of IPS, VA and TN) were disgusting. Furthermore, I had headaches from looking at a curved display. So keep this in mind when purchasing a curved monitor.

I don't really know much about 4K monitors, so I am not going to talk about them.

For more monitors, just use this website from PCM

1440P 144HZ IPS displays:

ACER NITRO VG271UP - The value for this monitor is amazing (Freesync, IPS, 144hz...), however, its ergonomics is pretty bad. I'd suggest getting a new stand for this one. This one has HDR400 (please note, it meets the bare minimums of VESA's HDR certification, which means its HDR experience won't be as good as proper professional 4K monitors). However, further research indicates that there are some uniformity issues (it's a gamble between panel to panel, even if it's the same model, so it depends if you're lucky enough to get a good seed). There are other models that are slightly cheaper like the ACER VG270.

AOC AG271QG - This monitor uses an IPS panel from AUO (the same panel as my MG279Q), this time, however, it has G-sync and 165hz as opposed to 144hz (the difference is not noticeable), however, it doesn't have HDR (not that you need it tbh). It's about 100 dollars more than the VG271, and in my own opinion, uglier. An IPS display, means you get great colours but maybe some minor uniformity issues. Nevertheless, great value for all the tech you get, but it is over your budget.

Whether you need adaptive sync or not, it is completely up to the games you play. So including your specs and the games you play will allow for a more informed decision. You can read more about adaptive sync here. Also, some monitors have a set "range" where adaptive sync will be activated e.g between 60hz to 144hz.

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of decent 1440P 144hz IPS displays with great value on the market right now, so I would check displayninja for upcoming monitors in 2019.

1440P 144hz TN/VA displays:

Typically TN displays are known for their fast response times (reduces ghosting) and affordability, however, it sacrifices image quality (by a significant margin). If you decide to get a TN... please do not ever compare it to an IPS, you will get buyers remorse almost immediately.

ACER NITRO KG271UA - Once again, typical ACER, crappy stand. Freesync only, however, TN panel means great response time.

Samsung LC32JG50 - VA curved panel that's 32 inches. Samsung panels are generally pretty good. The biggest downside with this monitor is that it lacks free sync... alternatives to this with free sync is the CQ32G1.

I'd leave it here, I will edit this whenever I find something better.

It was in warehouse deals,

https://www.amazon.de/gp/offer-listing/B07FVS6LVK/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

Some were marked as missing cable, no original packaging, or some with small scratches on the case of the monitor... Cheapest today are 273€ though. Which is still a decent deal in my opinion. It might not be the best monitor, but for that price I'd say it's hard to find something similar.

Bought it last week for 349,00€ but at least something off! :)

Edit: NVM I got the Acer KG271UA.

Which one is better? Should I send it back and get the 333€ one?

Thanks so much. Some excellent tips! Have thought of getting this screen instead as I've read great things about it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-UM-HX1EE-A15-KG271U-DisplayPort-speakers-black/dp/B07FVS6LVK/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=KG271UA&qid=1557948993&s=gateway&sr=8-1

Agree on the HDD + NVME combo, and might take advantage of a promo WD are running in the UK where you get the HDD for free.

I went for the H500i because of the RGB. Do you think it's not good enough?

Also, what's the biggest difference between the motherboards? Would love to learn.

I'm running an i5 6600k and 1060 6GB since almost 3 years now (your build is a tiny bit better), and here's my experiences with monitors:

I kept using my old 1080p 60hz 24" monitor for a while, until I noticed that there's more potential. I then went the 1440p 60hz route because I got a cheap monitor back then (BenQ GW2765HT 27" for 179€, which is still pretty cheap today). I was happy with my choice, and could play most games at a good 60fps on a great IPS panel. Even newer games like Battlefield V still run great, but since I'm mostly a r/patientgamers, I tend to play games older than a year.

Nowadays, especially since 1080p monitors are getting pretty cheap (since people are all wanting 1440p 144hz or better), I'm eyeing with a 1080p 144hz monitor to also not having to upgrade my setup to play upcoming games like Borderlands 3, Doom Eternal or Cyberpunk 2077. Or I go for a 1440p 144hz monitor and pray that the 1080p interpolation is good (but my experience with interpolation was always awful).

Here's some monitors I'm having an eye on: also check this list for G-Sync compatibility

1440p 144hz 27" TN:

I'll wait for prime day 15./16. July and hope for some deals.

tl;dr With your setup, you have to chose either 1440p 60hz or 1080p 144hz. If you're more into graphic-intensive singleplayer RPG/RTS/indie games, go 1440p. If you play mostly online games like shooters (CS:GO, Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite) which benefit from 144hz, go 1080p.

1440p 144hz might be the future for most people, but it's too much for your build.
