Alright, this is what I managed to scrounge together from memory and notes. All of them are available in English and I will be occasionally giving extra summarized details to further interest you into clicking on the links. Expect a lot of Franco-Belgian and nothing from Japan, mainly because I expect a lot of people to swamp you with Manga suggestions.

  1. Beautiful Darkness - I got this recently and wouldn't exactly call it a master piece or a "must buy" but an interesting read nonetheless.

  2. The Obscure Cities series - Only the first volume is available in English yet and the second volume is coming out this month, although that's technically not the first volume. The stories are somewhat standalone but become interconnected so it's not an overtly terrible thing that they aren't printing them in order of publication. I own this and would recommend it.

  3. Zagor: Terror From the Sea - An Italian series set in the Wild West...er Eastern United States. This is the first of what will hopefully be many collections for this character's stories. There are also two other trades out now called Zagor: The Red Sand and Zagor: Voodoo Vendetta.

  4. Yoko Tsuno - Back to Belgian again. Basically, a (young?) female Japanese scientist travels all around the world with her friends and engage in all sorts of high-tech adventures.

  5. Aya of Yop City series - A partially autobiographical comic set in a French West African colony during the 1970's. Was also adapted into an animated movie three years ago.

  6. Afrika

  7. [The XIII series](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/XIII_(comics) - A Belgian spy thriller series about a man trying to figure out his past. Has been made into a video game, movie, and tv series!

  8. Few people know this, but the smurfs actually started life as a Belgian comic!

  9. Morbus Gravis - A very NSFW Italian series. It's an erotic science fiction, fantasy, post-apocalyptic series that actually seems kind of interesting when you look past all the erotica.

  10. Adele Blanc Sec - A French series about a Victorian female investigative journalist who encounters all sorts of bizarre and supernatural mysteries. I have yet to read the book but watched and thoroughly enjoyed the movie based on it.

  11. [Barbarella](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarella_(comics) - You are probably more familiar with the movie adaptation of this slightly erotic (at least less so when compared to Morbus Gravis) Science Fiction French comic.

  12. The Nikopol Trilogy

  13. [Sillage](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_(comics) - Sadly only half of this French Science Fiction series is available in English and what is available had the (non-erotic) nudity scenes of art censored.

BONUS: Technically not a suggestion, but nonetheless I love to frequent this blog about comics in the Philippines. It's interesting to see how the American comics of the 1990's influenced this comic book industry during that time. I have also been researching recently the superheroes of India and Indonesia.
