I hate the PS3 controller because it causes my hands to cramp after an hour or so of playing. Personally i love the 360 controller, and i use it for playing on my PC. So i tried to buy a third party PS3 controller, and they all more or less are junk. Both me and my roomate spent around a month trying various controllers. Most of the third party PS3-360 controllers are junk, unfortunately.

Tried it, unfortunately it causes a rather noticeable and annoying input delay that would randomly happen. I remember playing Killzone 3 and there were times where my view would keep moving for a bit, after letting off the stick.

A similar problem occurred with Red Dead Redemption, where during the duels my targeting reticule would keep moving even after i let off the stick for less than half a second (it sounds like not much, but when you need some level of precision its extremely frusturating).

Similar problems to the adapter above.

A massive dead zone in the analog sticks along with a DPAD that was completely unresponsive.

There is a massive dead zone in the analog sticks, and feels extremely cheap. The wireless also seems to drop out at random. However it is the only 3rd party PS3 controller with 360 layout that has SIXAXIS.

Terrible, terrible controller. The analog sticks are so awful i just returned it right away.

I got to try this controller after it was lent to me by a friend. It worked worked really well, and i played through Killzone 2, and RDR without any issues. Unfortunately it is expensive and lacks SIXAXIS.

MadCatz also makes a MLG Controller for PS3, i tried it a couple of months ago. Overall i thought it was pretty great. But i have never seen it for sale in Canada.

Saitek also made a controller Cyborg V3 (that i can't find on amazon), that lets you flip the position of the analog sticks, but i can't find it anymore and they oddly seem to have completely switched to flight sim sticks.

Afterglow controllers are pretty good. Around 25 normally, and on sale through Amazon right now.

Sony brand PS2 controller + PS2 to USB converter = best PS3 controller for cheap.

When the PS3 is on and the controller is plugged in, press the Analog button to "sync" the controller. The Analog button acts as the Home button. Press once for the XMB and twice for the controller options.

Another Xbox style: PDP Afterglow

Third party controllers are known to have more dead zone in the analog sticks. So I'd go the PS2 controller route if you need that precision.

i'm going to buy [The AfterGlow] (http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC) in a month or so. To be honest the Pro Elite Controller is almost twice as more expensive as the after glow and there are bad reviews about it. But if price is not an issue then definitely buy [The MadCatz MLG PS3 Controller] (http://www.amazon.com/Offically-Licensed-Circuit-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B0063BCQ20). The best thing about it is that you can switch the dpad and analog in any format that you want. Here's a [video] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF_XKj4gzJk) describing what i just said.

If all else fails you can buy a PDP branded third party controller. To which 2 were made by them. Afterglow, and rock candy. They'll be the closest thing you'll get to a Dualshock 3 on PS3. That and they are quite reliable compared to the cheap knock-off Dualshock 3 controllers commonly found all over the place nowadays. Only downside is they are for the most part obtainable online since they were part of the PS3 era, and for the most part mainly PS3 games can be found.

The few chances of a genuine Dualshock 3 used in a store are rare, along with any official third party controllers like the ones I noted. Anyways I've linked both below.

I don't see this listed in the comments already so I'll toss this here. I picked one up to play the few games I own the ps3 for due to the swapped analog sticks. I also have the 360 version that I use as my PC controller. They aren't wireless, and the ps3 version still has the general shape and feel of a ps3 controller, but if what you want most from the xbox controller is the reversed sticks, then I definitely recommend it.

EDIT: changed link to amazon as it's half price there. Also I should mention that it comes in 2 other colors and the light can be turned off.

I've bought a few third party controllers in my time, and I've found that I actually prefer the Afterglow AP.1 to Sony's first party controllers. I've never really liked the positioning of the analog sticks on the first-party PlayStation controllers; the AP.1 gives it more of an Xbox 360 feel with the positioning of the sticks.

That being said, with the AP.1 you don't get Bluetooth connectivity, Sixaxis support, and the wireless can be a little touchy sometimes. I'll take it for half the price of a Sony controller, though. There's a lot of crap out there when it comes to third-party controllers, but I've never been disappointed by Afterglow.
