Here's a quick tutorial on setting the Audio Balance in Windows 7.

As an additional solution, you may want to try bone conducting headphones. The sound will travel through the skull, rather than through the ear, and may be able to restore some sense of stereo sound.

These ones are ~$40, although different models are available depending on your need.

Have you considered the new bone-conducting headphones that have been appearing on the market lately? Granted, these are by no means hi-fi, but might nonetheless be a fitting solution for your needs. At $36, they're not overly expensive to give them a try.

Otherwise, for a good closed full size, the Beyer DT-250 are very comfortable with great sound.

I don't think that would be a problem as long as you don't feel like it's distracting you. Maybe you could give it a test run someplace where there is little/no traffic and see how it goes.

Personally, I would recommend something like Aftershokz headphones. They conduct the sound through your cheekbone and leave your ears open so you can still hear what's going on around you.

I've been using mine for several months and I would definitely recommend them.

I used to ask for higher end headphones for birthday or Christmas presents, and I'd love them while they worked, but I swear they are only made to last until just after the warranty, no matter how good of care I take with them. I got some cool headphones for which the speaker component rests on the bone just in front of your ear, and they're great. I'll link in a minute after I search for them online because I don't know the actual name.

They have the benefit of not having that weird achey feeling after letting earbuds sit in for a long time. Sound quality is great, and they don't fall off while exercising.

They're called AfterShokz, and [here's an Amazon link] (http://www.amazon.com/Aftershokz-AS300-Wraparound-Headphones-Conduction/dp/B007003IO8). Check them out.

This is the Amazon link to the page where I got them. This model is actually discontinued, but they are very similar to the one I have linked up in the post, only differing aesthetically. Between the M2 and M3 I think one has a microphone to make calls with the headphones, while the other does not.

Get these - they're cheap bone conduction headphones. The fidelity isn't great, akin to Apple headphones, but you can clearly still hear everything around you.
