'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman is partially set in Iceland, but it's only a small part of the book.
'Frost on My Moustache' by Tim Moore is an unusual travel account of both Iceland and Norway.

I think the question you should ask is what you get out of applying even if you don't get the job. What will happen is that your superiors will notice you, they'll see that you're focused on the company and are willing to take on more responsibility.
Worst case scenario, you interview for the position and don't get the job, but you'll be recognized as someone with ambition by the people who can make it happen for you. It's still a big plus and will likely put you in good stead to get the position next time it's available. Best case scenario, you get the job, you'll have impressed the VP and dat raise tho.
Apply, have your partner run you through what it was like when she interviewed and practice. Be prepared.
