Most commercially produced cat foods contain synthetic taurine including all commercially available vegan cat foods.
Here is the Wikipedia article on Taurine synthesis
Here is a commercially available vegan cat food with taurine
We have two cats who have been on Ami Cat for two years. We have had this OKed by two different vets. FWIW, one cat had a lifelong itchy-rash on his neck that went away after we began feeding him the vegan cat food. Correlation does not equal causation, but I thought it was interesting that it happened around the same time.
We have the means to purchase this food, so we do it. I'm sure there are cheaper ways. In the end, I don't want to kill other animals just because I want to keep the one in my house alive when I don't have to.
Yeah, I know. They actually do need nutrients found only in animal meat, unlike us. The one I know offhand is taurine.
But there are vegan cat foods.
To quote someone else:
> "It takes a little perspective to see that food really is made out of chemicals. It is reduce-able, and we can build it back up. And we can change it, and we can make it better.
I already admitted that feeding cats plant-based cat food is something you'd want to be careful with. Keep contact with the vet. Make sure their bloodwork is good. And if they for some reason can't be healthy on that food, then they need animal-based food and there's nothing that can really be done about that at this point.
Why do you not think so? I'm not sure how much research you have done and maybe you know something I don't, but I'd recommend going through this:
