I have one of these and it works great, I have no complaints. I pretty much picked the one with the best reviews on amazon. Maybe coming from a chi you wouldn't like it, but having never used a really expensive one, I love it.
I have this one by Andis. I've had it for about 5 years, and it's still in perfect condition, still heats up fully, etc. I have thick, wavy hair, and it tames that really well.
The Andis ceramic is the one I have. It's incredible. I've owned plenty of really cheap straighteners, and then I bought one of these on a recommendation. I still consider it a cheap one, but it works wonderfully! At least as good as many of the much more expensive ones. Also, I've had it for about 6 years, dropped it tons, gotten it wet, and in general been not a very good owner and it still works and looks like the day I got it.
