Up to you, Its like a hard disk, after 2 years its; "Russian roulette" Amount of surges have an affect and that would be wearing it down... How many lightning strikes has it gotten you through in that time?

The other thing to note; check the warranty in advance, if they warranty surge protection for five years, bonus!

It's has a separate user replaceable fuse located in it's ac adapter.
I can't recommend Anker PowerPorts enough. I have a couple of the smaller ones.
