If you are open to the idea of a filter water pitcher that filters out fluoride, I use this one. Aquagear Water Filter Pitcher - Fluoride, Lead, Chloramine, Chromium-6 Filter - BPA-Free, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016LLLXJS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tEKVAbS8XXWWS

A Brita is a carbon filter, it's good for removing chlorine, sediment, and organic compounds from your water.
It's pretty near worthless for removing minerals, salts, and inorganic materials in solution. These categories are more or less every way that lead or other heavy metal contaminates will make there way into your water.
A Brita is primarily good for improving the taste of water by getting rid of biological contaminants that can make water taste funky. Filtering out dangerous stuff is really outside of the realm of what a Brita is capable of.
There is basically no practical / affordable way to filter your water in the way you're imagining at home. It can be done but it requires very specialized, very expensive equipment.
EDIT: Tell a lie they are making filters that are geared towards lead removal. Not sure what their mechanism is probably some sort of chemical binding agent because activated carbon alone shouldn't work.
Any way here's one that's supposedly certified for removal of most heavy metals : https://www.amazon.com/Aquagear-Water-Filter-Pitcher-Chloramine/dp/B016LLLXJS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1494363723&sr=8-2&keywords=lead+water+filter

Hey guys check this filter out it's on amazon. I personally use primo brand reverse osmosis water. But this is an excellent option.

This is what it says on its amazon link:
"RIGOROUSLY TESTED BY THIRD-PARTY LABS
The Aquagear filter meets and exceeds NSF Standards 42 and 53, and has been tested in independent, ISO 17025 accredited labs for the removal of:
Fluoride (90.06%)
Chlorine (99.9%)
Chloramine (99.9%)
Chromium 6 (99.4%)
Lead (99.9%)
Mercury (97.8%)
Arsenic (99.8%)
Copper (99.7%)
Over 50 VOCs including trihalomethanes (99.0%)
In March 2016, the Aquagear filter was taken to Flint, Michigan and demonstrated on tap water from a local residence. Lead levels were reduced from 4 times the EPA limit to undetectable levels."
Imagine a filter that would resolve flint michigans water problems?
Also something called bone char is an inexpensive and effective way to remove flouride however it is not available in USA. As far as I know. Are any of us surprised? If anyone can find a filter using that please share.
There are shower water filters on amazon as well. BUT none of them are ideal. Some make the claim and will not list ingredients, others make the claim and do not have independent verified results. Something is better than nothing I suppose.
Honestly, it is ridiculous that there are no simple, inexpensive methods to filter out water effectively.
Aggregate 4 stars seems decent to me. People often give bad reviews when the product doesn't meet their expectations, and with something like a water filter, I'd bet the problem is that they don't have reasonable expectations.
If you're just interested in reviews, the aquagear one seems slightly better. It has a 4.5 aggregate, and a better distribution of 2,3,4 star ratings. In most cases, you can trust ratings, but if you're looking for untrustworthy ratings you'll find them all in 1 star (rabid anger over minor details/trolls) and 5 star (paid reviews/shills).
EDIT: Looks like I'm wrong about reviews. People are consistently complaining about the nozzle leaking on the PUR filter. Sounds to me like filters tend to make a lot of compromises on quality to stay at a lower price. If I were you, I'd filter out anything below $50 and see what pops up.
Yeah your right, I could have sworn they had a house fluoride filter but I couldn't find one. Amazon has some good options from [Filtered pitchers](http://www.Aquagear.com/ Water Filter Pitcher - Removes Fluoride & Lead - 150 Gallon Filter Aqua Gear Filter - Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016LLLXJS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6S5LybG17WDVZ) to whole house filters if your not looking to spend too much.
