If you can spare the extra tenner or so, maybe change the CPU to the newer Ivy Bridge 3570k. It's pretty similar, but in with the new and all that.

Equally for £3 more you might as well go with the newer ASRock Z77.

RAM-wise you'd probably be better off going for 1600 MHz - you wouldn't really see that much performance boost for the money with anything higher than 1600MHz.

Unless you're a real audiophile the Sound Card is unnecessary - the onboard sound from the motherboard is usually good enough for most gaming builds.

750W might be slightly overkill for a 680, but if you don't mind spending the money and you want a lot of headroom for upgrades then go for it.

Just a few thoughts - good luck!

The Extreme4 is around 20£ cheaper than the Asus Z68 mobo! If it's possible for you to cancel the order on the Z68 and get the Extreme4, it would be great and you'll be in line with the latest gen of tech.

I am not sure about Amazon's credit card charging policies mate. Sorry! It might be possible to check your available credit amount through your bank. Login to their website and you should see an option to check your credit!

My Asus P8Z68 Deluxe overclocks like a beast, but that is a little old school. If I was buying today...http://www.amazon.com/LGA1155-CrossFireX-Motherboard-Z77-EXTREME4/dp/B007KTY4A6

DO NOT GET THIS MOBO

/u/qu3L what are you doing? He needs a LGA 1155 socket not an LGA 1150 socket!

OP, try looking at the ASrock Z77 Extreme 4, I have just upgraded to it and absolutely love it.

u/Aviyara · 2 pointsr/buildapc

If you want a new board, [this is the only Z77 I can find still being sold new on NewEgg.] (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA85V4N27226&cm_re=z77-_-13-157-293-_-Product) If you're okay with used, give r/hardwareswap a look.

EDIT: I also found [this on Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/LGA1155-CrossFireX-Motherboard-Z77-EXTREME4/dp/B007KTY4A6/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469220483&sr=1-1&keywords=z77+motherboard) for much cheaper. Still new.

Yea, pretty close. Here's the motherboard I have. It's a:

AS Rock LGA1155 DDR3 SATA3 USB3.0 Quad CrossFireX and Quad SLI A GbE ATX Motherboard Z77 EXTREME4

I tested everything inside as well and I still don't know the problem. I went and bought a new PSU because my other one is old and just to mix things up. If that doesn't work, I might just end up grading my motherboard/processor all around. I just got a new RAM and I don't think that's it.

u/Stevebiglegs · 1 pointr/PKA

Right, I don't want to overclock, so what motherboard and CPU would you recommend?

Is this one ok?http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007KTY4A6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

u/god_zirra · 1 pointr/buildapc

not sure what you mean by budget but i have that processor and this MOBO http://www.amazon.com/LGA1155-CrossFireX-Motherboard-Z77-EXTREME4/dp/B007KTY4A6 and it is awesome. Highly recommended.

u/dataupload · 1 pointr/buildapc

Fairly good build. Here are some changes I'd make though:

  • Faster memory for 1p more: Crucial 8GB Kit. Also it has low profile heat spreaders unlike Corsair's Vengeance series (which is great cause it doesn't matter what CPU cooler you end up using).

  • Since you're slightly over-budget check out the 7870 XT. It's basically a gimped 7950 (a 7940 if you would) which performs less than 5% or so slower. You can find one here for £185 or so. It's a pretty fantastic bargain and definitely one of the best value graphics cards on the market.

  • Is there any reason you haven't gone for one of the ~£100 motherboards like the ASRock Extreme4 or the Gigabyte D3H. Are there features on the Asus that you particularly want?

    Otherwise nice build!
u/itsmekai · 1 pointr/buildapc

Why that motherboard?

Cheaper option.

Or a Gigabyte.

u/SleepyHippo · 1 pointr/buildapc

What are some extremely safe OC settings for an i5-2500k + 212 Evo? First time oc'ing so I don't want to mess it up.

Is this mobo ok for light overclocking?

u/Enignite · 1 pointr/gamingpc

I would get a ASRock Z77Extreme4, slightly more expensive but better OCing and has two 3.0 lanes for SLI/CF incase you want a cheap upgrade route in the future.

That plus a Hyper 212+ will let you OC to 4.4GHz

u/Scotty2cky · 1 pointr/buildapc

Pretty sure this is the same one. You should post the build in pounds (change region on PCPartPicker at the top right) if your in England, it'll help people help you.

u/Londoner_85 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thanks, I'll be able to look at the hard drive again this evening.. However it appeared to be recognised on certain sata ports only, also would a computer freeze due to a faulty hard drive cause the reset button to stop working or occasionally a bad boot with driver issues following a crash (fixable by restarting again)?

I had a quick look to see the price of a recommended overclocking motherboard for the i5 2500k http://www.amazon.co.uk/Z77-Extreme4-Motherboard-Supports-CrossFireX/dp/B007KTY4A6 is recommended - it's the same chipset as my current board (which was originally recommended for overclocking). So I guess I can either get that and overclock my current CPU - I already have a decent fan for the job or I upgrade to a new CPU/board combo..

It appears that I wouldn't get a speed bost to be worth the extra £150 immediately but I'm a little worried that if I didn't upgrade now that when I do want to upgrade my GPU, perhaps to a 970 as suggested then the 2500k even overclocked would then be the limiting factor.

If it wouldn't be and I could still get ~3 years out of it then I'd be tempted to reuse it.

u/vir_papyrus · 1 pointr/buildapc

You probably will have a hell of a time finding an SLI capable 1155 board for cheap. I don't think anyone is selling them new anymore. Might have to dig around on ebay or forums for a used one.

http://www.amazon.com/LGA1155-CrossFireX-Motherboard-Z77-EXTREME4/dp/B007KTY4A6/

Found that one still being sold. Probably old stock.

u/Igual_Mente · 1 pointr/techsupport

Z77 Extreme 4.

I bought it about a year ago.

u/labatomi · 1 pointr/Amd

Yea my score seems about right compared to yours, I did try it when overclocked this is the results I got so definitely seems about right.

I rather keep the settings in the benchmark on max since that's what most people use to run it and it's easier to compare, specially for situations like this.

I never thought of turning it off since I've never gotten any errors or anything. But I'll do and try again, I'm pretty savvy so I know how to do it. My board is an AZROCK Z77 I got it so that I can OC my CPU but I haven't even gotten around to that yet since I haven't bothered to buy a closed loop cooler.

But thanks a lot for the info and the help man!

Really sorry I realized how i should put up some specs. Alright so I'm using 3 monitors. 2 of them are Acer G226HQL 21.5-Inch (1920x1080 they only have a dvi and a vga) and then one is Acer XB270HU 27-inch (2440x1440) and as for the wires I usually use 2 DVI-D one of which was plugged-in to the gpu and the other to the motherboard (Z77 EXTREME4) The 2440 monitor is plugged in with DisplayPort. However, I noticed that the Acer monitor plugged into the gpu was the only one running during boot-up so i thought to myself I will try using a HDMI to DVI and it didn't work but either way it works on windows. All running on a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti.
Thank you for answering back.

u/Dalarrus · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Super limited on that socket with overclocking and SLI support, you're going to be way over paying, as your only two options really are this ASRock 350$ board or this Asus 402$ board from warehouse, which means it takes ages to ship. There are other boards but they say "temporarily out of stock" But I seriously doubt any of those will be made again, since the socket is dead.

Well I just ordered
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007KTY4A6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6-8DxbJQGNYR2
And I'll be moving my ram and cpu to the new board and rebuilding what I was up til 4am troubleshooting last night. Got same day delivery so tonight it is.

List of 1155 compatible mobos (https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627%20600093976&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=REVIEWS&PageSize=36)

Id probably go with this one

It has the highest reviews and most stars on most sites when talking about mobos with 1155s but it seems to be a little pricey IMO.

you can use pcpartpicker.com and select the exact cpu you have and etc to get a compatibility check just to make sure.

This is the board I have, I would look around to see if you can find it cheaper.
