hello, in my opinion you should not get an nvr for the fact that they are expensive and you can not upgrade them down the line, what i recommend is building a pc base nvr and use the blue iris softwere, my recommendation and my current set up is:

if you have an old computer you can save some parts and moeny by reusing the power supply, hdd and maybe the case. all that will be around 250-300, the you will have 200 to buy 4 poe 1080p cameras 50 each, and good things is that you can add more later on, best of the luck, you do need few more parts so let me know if you interested and i will put them together for you. you can take a look at mine at http://mymun2.25u.com:81 demo/demo for username and passowrd.

Thanks for all the advice, thank god i didnt buy the parts. My budget is around $500, what do you think would be good for that? ill be getting a good monitor soon. Also, i already have storage and case so that would bring the second pc down to about 560. Im actually australian and 560 dollars is around $750.

Do you think using This
ram would still be ok?
and also using This
If i used that motherboard would i have to use DDR3 ram instead? thanks a lot, your a life saver

Thanks for the info, I updated the post with CPU specs which is I5-4460 3.20GHz. I'm gonna look into Silverstone cases but I do not plan to expand it into more than 1 SSD and 1 HDD in total, probably ever

Edit: Here's what I'm looking at so far
Silverstone Milo Series ML03 https://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=283&area=en
with ASUS M5A78L-M MicroATX motherboard https://www.amazon.com/M5A78L-M-Plus-USB3-MicroATX-Motherboard/dp/B01FN9QT34
Do you have thoughts about this?

I'm looking to put together an inexpensive build using some components I already have. I was looking at the AMD FX-8350 with this ASUS motherboard. I'll be using 8 GB of DDR3 ram I already have, as well as a GTX 750ti, with an eye towards upgrading that to something like an RX 470 in the fall. I'll mostly be using this PC for gaming (Overwatch and GTAV) and video editing. Is there a better motherboard/CPU combo for around $200?
