They suggested this as an alternative in the article, seems way better at a lower price:

Asus MeMo Pad FHD10.

It's on sale for $279 at Amazon right now.

My wife owns this tablet, bought it for school, and it handles everything we've thrown at it from gaming to school work and multitasking. Also comes with built in office suite, note-taking software with handwriting recognition. You really can't beat it.

Spec-wise it's got a 1920x1200 display, 2GB of RAM, and it's running a 1.6Ghz dual core intel based chipset. I have nothing but praise for this device.

In the long run if Android developers start making apps that run using more than two threads (e.g. - apps that can take advantage of quad-core CPUs), the tablet will age, but that hasn't happened yet, and with it's two cores this thing runs many things on par or faster than my Quad Core Tegra 3 tablet (Hisense Sero 7 Pro if you're curious).

Why are you still reading? This is your tablet, go buy it; I don't think you'll find a better deal on a high resolution 10" tablet!

They are better now, and you would have something that you can repair. The Lenovo Yoga suggested above would be a bad choice. The MediaTek processor is just ... pretty meh. A Nexus 7 or a Asus Memo Pad would be a better choice, if you go the tablet way.

An alternative would be also a Asus VivoBook X200CA-SCL0301Q from Best Buy. The CPU isn't on par with the Celeron in a Chromebook, but it would be sufficient for Minecraft.

I would recommend going with the Microsoft Surface (not an Android tablet). They are pretty cheap, especially a couple generations ago, and they are certainly worth the money and are very useful for classwork.

If you are dead-set on the Android framework, the Nexus 10 is fantastic (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ACVI202/sr=8-1/qid=1406428854/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1406428854&sr=8-1). The Lenovo Yoga is another premium laptop, even if an oddball design (http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Yoga-10-Inch-Tablet-59411051/dp/B00JAIEAHC/ref=psdc3_t1_B00F2ENU92_B00JAIEAHC). The Asus MeMoPad 10 is a cheap alternative, but not ideal; it is a good machine, though (http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MeMO-ME102A-A1-GR-10-1-Tablet/dp/B00GCG4ZR0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1406428525&sr=1-1&keywords=ASUS+MeMO+Pad+10+ME102A-A1-), and there is an older generation for $100 cheaper (http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Yoga-Multimode-10-inch-Tablet/dp/B00F2ENU92/ref=br_lf_m_1001054421_1_1_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=pc&pf_rd_p=1767388822&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1001054421&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1W9FT7T6S4C7PQDWAQ8F), and there is an updated version also affordable (http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MeMO-ME302C-A1-BL-10-1-Inch-Tablet/dp/B00DXFDHV8/ref=br_lf_m_1001054421_1_3_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=pc&pf_rd_p=1767388822&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1001054421&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1W9FT7T6S4C7PQDWAQ8F). If you are willing to do an 8.3" screen, the LG GPad can be used for work (http://www.amazon.com/LG-Tablet-Quad-core-Flash-Display/dp/B00HL3P9EG/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1406428036&sr=1-7&keywords=sony+xperia+z2+tablet).

if all ya wanna do is watch movies, the Asus ME302 is a movie watching machine

don't worry about built-in storage ... microSD is what ya want, anyhow ... pick up a few 32gb microSD for $15/ea er so, and pile on a couple dozen movies

the ME302 also has microHDMI ... pick up an adapter/cable, and ya can plug it into most any TV/monitor ya find

if ya wanna spend a little more for some newer hardware, there's the Asus TF701 and Sony Xperia Z2

if ya'd prefer windows, an Asus T100 would work well, as the keyboard/dock is basically a built-in stand (be sure to get the 64gb version though ... the os n such eats up about 20gb, off the bat) ... otherwise, in a 10in, the Surface Pro 1 is a good deal at $450 (this is basically a full Windows 8.1 pc, that happens to be packaged in a tablet)

if I were you, I'd got with the ME302 (toy) or the Surface Pro 1 (toy/work)
