Black Friday is coming up, so I highly recommend waiting until then to see if there are any deals if you can put up with your current laptop for another 2 weeks.

Otherwise some of my current recommendations include these

Asus Zenbook 2in1. Generally 2 in 1s are pretty bleh but at $920 I think it checks off what you need.

Lenovo currently has this 14 Inch ThinkBook for $941.

If you have Amazon Prime and don't mind buying an open box product, I also recommend checking out Amazon Warehouse. There are some nice laptops selling at a discounted price. If you don't like it, it's always easy to return (bought a new laptop for school during the spring term through the warehouse). Just make sure to check the condition ("Very Good" is usually basically brand new but YMMV)

Zenbook 13

Zenbook 15.6

Zenbook Ultra

u/elvinelmo · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Check out the ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH55 which is a great college ultrabook

With the difference in price, I would think you should get the 8th gen system

  • Display: 13.3-inch Ultra-Slim Laptop 1920 x 1080
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8250U
  • RAM: 8GB DDR3
  • Storage: 256GB SSD
  • Weight: 2.65 lbs
  • Battery Life: 11 hrs +

The aluminum body and weight makes this laptop ultra portable which makes it ideal for students. This system is not meant for running intensive programs or playing AAA games, it is meant to have a good build quality that can last 4+ years to see you through college

The Asus zenbook line is really good for the money. Doesn't have thunderbolt 3 so that's a consideration when comparing it to XPS 13 and Matebook X Pro.

An Asus Zenbook UX330 with an i5, 8gb RAM and 256gb SSD is at $700 on Amazon. Link

About the Matebook X Pro, a similarly specced model is $1200 but Amazon, newegg, and the Microsoft store all all offering gift card promos ($300 gift card for Amazon or Microsoft, $150 rebate+$150 gift card for Newegg)

Edit: you might also want to check out Dell Outlet (www.dell.com/outlet) which has XPS 13's at a decent price when compared to new.

Costco also has higher end model on sale right now

u/techstar2000 · 4 pointsr/LaptopDeals

Could you go over the $700 budget? This ASUS ZenBook 13 would be a very nice pick that matches what you would want.

In terms of running games , this Acer Swift 3 of which I am currently an owner, would do a great job - thanks to its dedicated graphics card that the Zenbook doesnt have.

The Zenbook has a slightly better display.

u/spacemudd · 3 pointsr/digitalnomad

Check out the Asus Zenbook lineup. I got the UX305UA two years ago and I fucking love it.

I was torn between the XPS, Yoga, and Surface but I don't regret my decision at all.

I didn't choose XPS because of the weird camera placement and its design didn't suit me. The MS Surface had terrible battery life and I still see my friends struggling with their surfaces, lol.

___

Things I love about the ux305:

  • Design is super clean and made out of aluminum. It feels very rich.

  • Screen is bright and color accurate.

  • Lightweight, you can really stuff the laptop anywhere you want, lol.

  • The laptop runs ice cold while having the fan run very quietly. It's amazing.

  • Trackpad has a 'glass' texture to it with subtly glitter-finish to it, it's captivating to say the least.

  • Keyboard key-travel is short but precise and firm. Hands down the best keyboard I used.

  • Even after 2 years, I still get solid 9 hours of battery if I use WiFi sparingly with medium brightness. Few weeks ago I forgot my charger and had to stay at a job location from 9pm to 5pm coding. I left the site with 15% charge!

I recommend the lightweight 2.5 lbs ASUS ZenBook Ultra-Slim Laptop, 13.3-inch Full HD, 8th gen Intel i5-8250U Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Backlit keyboard, Fingerprint Reader, Anti-Glare, Windows 10, Grey, UX330UA-AH55

u/legos45 · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The Acer Swift 3 is nice, but I'm not sure about its color accuracy, which is very important for photo editing.

How about the ASUS Zenbook UX330UA? It has:

  • i5-8250U 4-core processor

  • 8 GB of RAM

  • 256 GB SSD storage

  • 1080p 13.3" display with 90%+ sRGB color accuracy

  • Weight of 2.6lbs and battery life up to 12 hours

This laptop will be great for school work and photo editing. Secondhand could be an okay option, but if her range is ~$700, then this device is fantastic.
u/starchaserro · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Hi, these are the best models I found based on your requirements: noteb search result.

You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information.

I would recommend the: Asus ZenBook UX330UA (2018)(US).

Another option would be the: Acer Swift 3 SF314-52G (2018). With a dedicated graphics card for casual gaming.

Both of the laptops above come with the latest 8th gen i5 CPU, good build quality, HDMI, backlit keyboard and battery life.

You can buy and customize the Asus: HERE.

You can buy the Acer: HERE.

u/Michiganders · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

If you want an incredible keyboard, I'd suggest a Lenovo Thinkpad T470 or T470s. You can find them for just around $800 with decent specs from the corporate store (use code NJ*PERKSEPP). They're incredibly well built, have a great battery, and work well with linux. You may not find them as visually appealing as other options though.

Two other options is the 14" Acer Swift 3 for $660 and the Asus Zenbook for $750. They're both pretty similar with a new Kaby Lake R processor, but the Asus will be a bit more portable with a smaller 13.3" display and weighing just 2.6 pounds.

For more suggestions, check out my laptop recommendation guide. If you have any questions let me know and I'll try to respond to the best of my ability

u/ViJackie · 2 pointsr/LaptopDeals

I'm in your shoes too and I've been doing a lot of research. I'm pretty close to buying this one:
ASUS ZenBook 13 Ultra-Slim Laptop, 13.3” Full HD, 8th gen Intel i5-8250U Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB || UX330UA-AH55

This is not a touch screen though

Reasons:
2.6lb
13" Screen
12.7 x 8.7 x 0.5 inches (0.5 inch thickness)
Long battery life (Around 9 hours I think)

Other reasons:
8th gen i5-8250 is pretty much mandatory
1080 display on 13"

I wish there was 1TB instead of 256gb ssd though. But,
I think this is the most portable laptop without an HDD.

u/tek_thetech_tap · 2 pointsr/laptops

There's the Asus ZenBook UX330UA with 8th gen i5 that currently goes for $700 on Amazon. I'd say it's one of the good ultrabooks for the price.

Here's the link

If Mac is necessary, and the computer is in good condition (make sure to run stress tests), then yes. But if that is not the case, you can get decent Windows ultraportables at this price like this.

u/realducksquack · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Also consider taking a look at the -> ASUS ZenBook 13 . It packs the latest 8th gen processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD storage and preinstalled with Windows 10.

Design wise it has a 13.3" Full HD display, an aluminum body and weighs 2.6 lbs. Extra attention went into developing an ergonomic full-size backlit keyboard that features optimal 1.5-millimeter key travel. Best if you can try it at your local stores and see if it works for you, good luck!

u/thedaysleeper1 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Go for this [ Asus ZenBook Ultra-Slim Laptop] (https://www.amazon.ca/Asus-Ultra-Slim-Fingerprint-Anti-Glare-UX330UA-AH55/dp/B075N1YHVK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1537354499&sr=8-2&keywords=asus+zenbook&dpID=417XeSwtw%252BL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch) which is thin and lightweight. Furthermore, comes with the latest 8th gen processor which is fast and has a wonderful screen display.

u/Supdawg · 2 pointsr/laptops

You might want to bump up to 14". Laptops that size are a bit cheaper and more common, while still being almost half the weight of a 15.6". I'd highly recommend getting something with a ryzen mobile or 8th gen i5/i7 since this latest gen of mobile processors is pretty much exclusively quad core instead of dual like the past decade or so.

EDIT: If you can raise the budget some, then this asus looks ok.

Second attempt for suggestion! Now won't move from 600-850$.

First: Acer Swift 3. I think that model is great.

Second: Asus ZenBook UX330UA-AH55

Third (yours): Dell Inspiron 13 7000

Take in mind something, Dell Inspiron 13 7000 is touch display. That, by itself, is great. But it consumes more battery, so maybe it worries you. Any question, just DO IT!

CPU: i5-8250U

GPU: Integrated

RAM: 8 GB

Display: FHD 14 IPS screen

Storage: 256 SSD,- HDD

RAM: 8GB

Display: FHD 13.3 IPS screen

Storage: 256 GB SSD,- HDD

have you looked at the ASUS ZenBook 13?

u/Brewtown · 1 pointr/UltraBooks

I have this laptop. It's been great, the 8th gen core is blazingly fast. It's not good for gaming but office work, general screwing around and other tasks are fine. I can edit video quite well too. We have the silver color than the rose gold.

Battery life with normal use has been around 15 hours. Heavy use 10-12. There was issues with its previous generation having a noisy fan. Let me dig up the amazon link.

Edit.. Nope, I have a different model.

I don't know how long ago you used these brands but they're really improved in the last few years. I like the HP Spectre and the XPS 13. The only reason I wouldn't buy a Thinkpad is because they're super ugly, but I doubt you'll have issues with a loud fan. Everyone who I've talked to who owns one loves theirs.

That being said, I use this ASUS laptop:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075N1YHVK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got the 2017 version when it was $750 but it had $1100 specs. I wouldn't recommend the 2018 version. ASUS makes some good laptops that are know for being reliable. For desktop computers, ASUS parts have a premium not because they're faster but because they're almost never defective. It seems as though that mentality is also applied to their laptops. (I bought that laptop above and it didn't charge, but I exchanged it and it's working two years later. Also, 3/4ths of my family uses ASUS and they like it).

MSI is also good if you're looking for a gaming laptop, but I think it will be too big to bring to class.

You need to look for a CPU that has 4+ cores and is i7 or i5. Just put the CPU model into Google and it will tell you. You need 6+ GB of RAM. I'd recommend 500 GB of storage, but you could make 250 GB work. I'd also recommend a decent GPU if you want to do light gaming or rendering. Just look for the word NVIDIA somewhere in the product listing.

All of these suggestions have been around the $1000 price bracket but if you want suggestions in another bracket I could probably find something.

u/qwertiuiop · 1 pointr/laptops

I’ve extensively researched the Razer Blade (was originally planning to purchase until I found Dell XPS 15), but never actually bought it.

~~If you don’t mind gaming at slightly lower settings, there’s many options already or about to be released, manufacturers are increasingly producing more “portable gaming” laptops, such as this Asus ZenBook

The GPU is MX150 (Mobile GT 1030), however it does surprisingly well in AAA games at reduced settings. Unless your studies demand a faster computer (computer science, etc) this should be good for a few years to come. ~~

Edit: Sorry, didn’t realise you wanted to play VR as well. However I would suggest a desktop PC for VR, as better laptop hardware can be a lot more expensive.

u/tkyte · 1 pointr/PlayOn

make sure to go into advanced settings and enable use of the GPU. It made a world of difference for my machines recording wise. It'll offload to the GPU a lot of work and the machine just runs better overall.

I've been using this laptop:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075N1YHVK/
and playon has been working great on it.

u/Irbricksceo · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I just bought one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075N1YHVK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm quite happy with it. Its not as high-end as some of the more expensive ultrabooks (sata ssd vs pcie, no touch), but its fast and, most importantly to me, its light. as a student, I found carrying my former laptop tiring. just be aware that it cannot game.

u/DontCareAtThisPoint · 1 pointr/UltraBooks

How does this compare to https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075N1YHVK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 ?
It's an amazing discount but looking at the specs I'm not sure what I'm gaining with that $250 bump other than a faster processor, double the disc and ram which I'm not sure I'll use.

u/Earthy_Eagle · 1 pointr/chromeos

Before I start I want to clarify I'm not saying NOBODY should buy a pixelbook or that they are wrong. It's a nice machine and if someone is dead set on one then it's a good purchase for them, but if you are seriously hesitant and choosing between a non chrome os laptop for $1000, don't do it because at the end of the day you'll regret it I think because you know you'll possibly want/need the function of a full OS at some point. I was in the same boat but with the $600 range.

I'll throw in my two cents here

I think Chromebooks are excellent at a maximum price of $600. I think any higher than that you get diminishing returns besides future proofing or having the absolute best Chromebook because a core m3 is definitely enough for chrome os and you'll get premium build quality at $500+

If you are looking to spend 900+ I'd recommend a windows machine, a core i5, 8gb ram and SSD windows laptop will give you enough speed and power to run windows comfortablely and you can get some steam gaming and MANY other stuff done that a $1000 Chromebook can't do while you are at it. Just install the chrome browser and you'll have a fast machine that can do anything in the limits of it's hardware.

$1000 is a good 2 in 1, awesome ultrabook or a pretty good gaming laptop. I would go with one or there. Heck you don't even need to spend $900+ for a good ultrabook these days.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B075N1YHVK/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1518793031&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=asus+ultrabook

I know this isn't something a lot of you wanted to hear but this isn't targeted at any of the chrome os users who use the OS as their main OS. It's towards someone who is hesitant on dropping that kind of money on a laptop running Chrome OS. I'm in full support if OP truly wants the pixelbook but in a decisive state I can't recommend one.

2-in-1 much better specs than the HP you have, but no TB3

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YZMV4Q/ref=emc_b_5_t?th=1
This is recommended due to dual TB3 ports. No Dedicated GPU, but better specs all around and the same price as your HP and probably twice as powerful.

Specs still better than your HP and a nice looking machine, has dedicated graphics although not that powerful it is the newest low-power ultrabook GPU from nvidia and newest gen i7 processor
Not quite the specs I would be looking for and no TB3 which is always a buzzkill for me.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075N1YHVK/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B075N1YHVK&pd_rd_wg=gSsaZ&pd_rd_r=H48BTXRVAEN6MEEYFXW9&pd_rd_w=D8FIr
If you wanna save some money, this is $750, elegant design and latest gen i5. You HP was like a 5th gen and this is an 8th. Otherwise some specs are better, some identical I think.

Zen Pro UX550VE Still my Top Choice but all these are good options considering your personal preference and needs.

How does the 7th gen i7 compare to 8th gen i5?

I just bought the Asus Zenbook UX330UA over the Asus Zenbook UX430DB71BL. My main concern was battery usage-seems like they had comparable performance but the i7 would drain the battery. Also, my computing demands are minimal (web, word,etc.).

Here are the two I was considering:

And

u/The_Bacon_Reader · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Neither. You're in college and don't need the BEST laptop with your major, it'd be a waste of money. You want something that is reliable and will get the job done. Notetaking in college is pretty much done all on paper. You use the laptop to write the papers. Instead of getting a $3,000 laptop I would recomend looking for a laptop around $600-$900 or even building a GOOD pc for the same price You can spend the other $2,000 on food when you are broke and starving, alcohol when you're thirsty, and a nice suit if you join a fraternity.

If you don't build a PC you could go with one of these:

Speaking as I'm finishing up with my freshman year in cs:

Definitely stick with the 13 incher. Get good battery life. I bought the Asus UX330 and it has been solid all around value and performance and battery for me, and I would highly recommend it.

Portability and weight is more important than you'll realize, and although I have a desktop my laptop is my go to for all coding, classwork, and youtube/netflix (so 98% of the time).

I know a lot of people with macbooks, but I'm not sure if the air is worth the value.

I am looking for a new work laptop for around 700. I had the Asus Zenbook UX330 in mind, hoping for a deal on it today, however I just stumbled across this deal on a Lenovo Yoga. They both have similar specs and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to help me decide between the two.

I have this one I use it for coding watching streams on twitch or YouTube or Netflix when I’m at uni or on the go. But always watch YouTube vids and reviews online on any computer and make your own decision.

I got this new for $600. It appears now that you can only get it used on amazon because newer models have come out. That said it’s been great, nothing but good things to say. The newer ones have price points closer to the Dell so I’d get the Dell unless you use a webcam quite a bit. Pretty sure this one has it in the bottom corner which is weird.
