I would suggest a good balance of power and portability. Check out the ASUS ZenBook 13 UX331UN

· Ultra-Slim Laptop 13.3” FHD WideView Touch display,

· 8th gen Intel Core i5-8250U Processor,

· 8GB LPDDR3,

· 256GB SSD,

· Nvidia MX150,

· Backlit keyboard, Fingerprint

This Zenbook has a strong build quality and its very portable. The MX150 graphics card will be adequate for gaming and its quad core CPU will let you run CAD and editing software well

Hey,

How about the Acer Swift 3? It has:

  • i5-8250U 4-core processor

  • 8 GB of RAM

  • 256 GB SSD storage

  • 1080p 14" display

  • MX150 2 GB graphics card

  • Weight of 3.8lbs and battery life up to 10 hours

The laptop runs Windows 10 Home. The MX150 is +67% in performance compared to the NVIDIA 940MX. It is much lighter. It is far under $1,000, which is a big pro.

A more expensive choice could be the ASUS Zenbook UX331UN, which is feather-light at 2.5lbs.

From what you described, you don't need an H-series CPU, which opens things up considerably. If you think you might start editing video, get into 3D work or do some crazy comp-sci stuff, then an H-series could be beneficial, but battery life will be a major drawback.

For $1000 you can get an Asus Zenbook which is a nice mid-range option. There are a bevy of options, both more premium and budget friendly. The Huawei Matebook X Pro with the MX150 is the one people have been raving about, so it could be worth a look as well in the premium range.

Hi,

For photoshop I recommend a LED IPS display with good color reproduction - sRGB over 80% - keeping that in mind and your requirements I have made this noteb search

You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information.

There are more options for you: the Xiaomi Pro 15.6 looks nice and with good stats but if you want something lighter - check this out: Asus ZenBook 13 UX331UN - Intel i5-8250U, NVIDIA Geforce MX150 Max-Q, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD - over 7H of battery life, great display 16.7M colors, 90% sRGB, - it's a little bit pricey - amazon 1600 CAD - from a quick search - maybe you can find it better.

LE: If you want to go for this one: Asus ZenBook UX430UN - read this review first - it seems to have some screen flickering - so if you're sensitive to this maybe you should avoid it.

"Subjectively, the matte display is nearly as sharp as a glossy display since it suffers from no major graininess issues commonly found on most other matte panels. On the other hand, there is irrefutable pulse-width modulation on all brightness levels up to 99 percent and so users who may be sensitive to onscreen flickering may want to avoid this notebook altogether."

I would recommend ASUS ZenBook 13 UX331UN as it comes with: -

CPU: i5-8250U

GPU: GeForce MX150

RAM: 8 GB

Display: FHD 13.3 IPS screen

Storage: 256 GB SSD,- HDD

Long battery life

It is a great choice because of its great heat management system and high build quality, along with its specifications makes it the best option for your usage and it is below your budget.

Yes this ASUS UX331UN-WS51T-BL ZenBook would definitely be a great laptop to get but unfortunately its out of stock at amazon. you could also check out its latest version HERE which has an i7 cpu and more storage space. but is 14 inch and a little over three pounds.

If you also want your back to not hurt you could check out this laptop

I would recommend this [ASUS Zenbook] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078T1715R/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it comes with everything you need, 8th generation, i5 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good SSD storage of 256GB for faster boot up and loading, 13.3 inch Full HD touch screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, GeForce MX150 GPU that should be able to handle games on low to medium settings with very good FPs, long battery life, lightweight, and it’s within your budget.

u/TheDavie_ · 2 pointsr/LaptopDeals

I would get the acer swift 3 or the ux331un, it is your choice whether to add those 200$ for the 2 in 1.

Also, I don't know if you must have the dGPU(mx150), it is not too strong, so maybe consider the ux430ua too, versus the acer swift 3 above, it is better by having 16gigs of ram(x2) and i7 8550u(instead of i5 8250u), however, it doesn't have a dGPU\>

u/realducksquack · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Hello, you might want to also consider the -> Dell XPS 13 and the ASUS ZenBook 13. The XPS 13 has a smaller footprint due to it's InfinityEdge display and is much smaller than most 13" laptops. The ZenBook while slightly bigger has a better graphics, the MX150. Best if you can try them at your local stores and see if they work for you. Good luck!

u/BestBeating · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would check this Asus Vivobook S14 (with dedicated MX150 graphics card), its stylish, light-weight laptop with the right mix of specifications and price.

Pros

  • Relatively light
  • Anti-glare display
  • Good performance
  • Competitive pricing

    Cons

  • Lid wobbles easily
  • Keyboard flexes under pressure

    More details

If you want to spend all your budget, check Asus Zenbook it has better build quality, but it comes with 8th gen i5 processor (S14 has 8th gen i7).

UX331 https://www.amazon.com/UX331UN-WS51T-Ultra-Slim-Processor-keyboard-Fingerprint/dp/B078T1715R/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527748290&sr=1-3&keywords=ux331 This laptop is 13.3 inch super thin and only 2.5 lbs. Has a 8250u, mx150 8gb of ram, and a 256gb ssd. Has a hdmi and usb c for monitor output, no thunderbolt 3. 1,000$. Probably the best performing ultrabook for the price. There are higher spec models too with 16gb of ram and more storage.

2-in-1 much better specs than the HP you have, but no TB3

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071YZMV4Q/ref=emc_b_5_t?th=1
This is recommended due to dual TB3 ports. No Dedicated GPU, but better specs all around and the same price as your HP and probably twice as powerful.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078T1715R/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B078T1715R&pd_rd_wg=gSsaZ&pd_rd_r=H48BTXRVAEN6MEEYFXW9&pd_rd_w=D8FIr
Specs still better than your HP and a nice looking machine, has dedicated graphics although not that powerful it is the newest low-power ultrabook GPU from nvidia and newest gen i7 processor
Not quite the specs I would be looking for and no TB3 which is always a buzzkill for me.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075N1YHVK/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B075N1YHVK&pd_rd_wg=gSsaZ&pd_rd_r=H48BTXRVAEN6MEEYFXW9&pd_rd_w=D8FIr
If you wanna save some money, this is $750, elegant design and latest gen i5. You HP was like a 5th gen and this is an 8th. Otherwise some specs are better, some identical I think.

Zen Pro UX550VE Still my Top Choice but all these are good options considering your personal preference and needs.

Hi!
I already posted a question here but I have another one!
I'm nearing graduation and I'm off to college soon.
So I'm selling my gaming PC to buy a powerfull laptop.

[https://www.amazon.com/UX331UN-WS51T-Ultra-Slim-WideView-Processor-Fingerprint/dp/B078T1715R/ref=sr_1_11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1527058344&sr=1-11&keywords=zenbook+3]

It is fairly powerfull, but it will not however, run Crysis.
What I'm wondering is, can I buy a GTX 1180 in the future and plug it to this laptop through thunderbolt?
I've seen Linus do it, he has some sick GPU in a cool box that has a thunderbolt going out and connected into the laptop.
But I mean, is it viable?

u/cosmicrailway · 1 pointr/AskMen

Hey PolloMagnifico,

I understand your point but I have seen some laptops that are both mildly powerful for casual to mid-competitive gamers like me while also being mobile AND cheap.

Here are two examples that I seem to like:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078T1715R/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=dav0d2-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B078T1715R&linkId=39b1dc41e23d81a793adb4d995970395

&

https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-i7-8550U-GeForce-Windows-S510UN-EH76/dp/B0786TPWBP/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1527649666&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=asus+vivobook&dpPl=1&dpID=51AoDjwwLlL&ref=plSrch

So I would want to respectfully debunk your comment to an extent. Yes, your comment is true most of the time however there are exceptions. I never asked for a top notch gaming laptop with amazing specs just a "decent" one or an "alright" gaming laptop. Anyhow thanks for replying.

Cheers.

Edit: Even though I already found two, I'm just wondering if I can find any better deals.

The surface line of laptops are marketed well so they seem like a good option but in reality they have a poor build quality. The Acer Swift 3would be the ultrabook that I would recommend as it is well built and is able to run overwatch at medium settings and get good fps due to its mx150 gpu. The other I would recommend is the Asus Zenbook as it is lighter and just as powerful but slightly over budget

https://www.amazon.com/ZenBook-UX331UN-WS51T-Ultra-Slim-Processor-Fingerprint-x/dp/B078T1715R

I own a Zenbook UX331UN. It has a GeForce MX150, great battery life to last me a full day of school, and finger-print. The only big issues I have is with the trackpad (lags out once in a while, but it's an issue with most ASUS products) and that the laptop is a fingerprint magnet. So be sure to clean it up/wipe it often.

I CAD on it and it lags once in a while, but not too horrible. Unfortunately it doesn't support thunderbolt. Not too sure about upgrades.

I run Overwatch on high settings with 50+ FPS. Lower settings would give higher FPS.

At 13 inches this ASUS ZenBook 13 UX331UN-WS51T Ultra-Slim Laptop would satisfy the criteria you have laid out. It is very light weighted, has an excellent battery life and with the quad core 8th gen i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, fast SSD and most of all, the MX 150 graphics card, you ill be able to do a fair share of gaming and run other graphical demanding applications. In addition, this laptop has a very good build quality and it's aesthetics are quite appealing.
