I would highly recommend Big Hair and Plastic Grass. Just finished this the other day, couldnt put it down. Does a very good job putting the baseball world of the 70s within the greater context of the American culture of the same time.
There is an amazing book on 70's baseball that devotes an entire, entertaining and thought provoking chapter on this called Big Hair and Plastic Grass. I'm not even a baseball fan and I was fascinated the whole way through- the 70's were really an entirely different universe.
