>I was coming here to say the same damn thing.

So was I, but I'll actually do it.

Animation degree here. (Really dont need a degree. My professors who worked in the industry said many dont have degrees still to this day, its all about passion and skill... and being willing to work 16 hour days)

Seriously fantastic animation. All 12 principles of animation are represented.

Your bro just needs to keep uploading and making animation. Its essentially a portfolio.

Animation companies dont care if you have a degee. They want a stacked portfolio. With solid animation.

When your bro starts applying for animation jobs. Make sure he has a solid demo reel. A demo reel is only the best animation hes made compiled in one vid. Its the resume for these places. Its all about skill.

Fyi the #1 and #2 books (no particular order) for learning animation and developing it are priceless. My professors stressed these books every year. They were used in 90% of my animation classes.

This book...

The Animator's Survival Kit: A Manual of Methods, Principles and Formulas for Classical, Computer, Games, Stop Motion and Internet Animators https://www.amazon.com/dp/086547897X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5JSgDb5GHT9WJ

And this book....

The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation https://www.amazon.com/dp/0786860707/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OKSgDbZMMJBVE

This would make an fantastic gift as well for any animator

here's a book about the making of ren and stimpy. it's mostly about ren and stimpy. but it touches on some things... including sending work overseas to be animated in korea and sending people over to Rough Draft, the company that animates the simpsons (i think still?) and many other shows. the ren and stimpy crew sent people over there because there's a language barrier, and it's Very difficult to get the Performance out of someone who doesn't speak the language. you can't tell when and where to accent words with, say, an eyebrow raise... so you have to have Everything timed out in advance and it allows for very little improvisation from the creative team.

there's a ton of information about animation history out there but not so many documentaries... a lot of sucking off of Frank and Ollie and the disney "9 old men" for having "figured out" animation rules back in the day (as if they were the only ones doing it). -- they released a book called the illusion of life https://www.amazon.ca/Illusion-Life-Disney-Animation/dp/0786860707 that talked about the early days of disney film.

animation used to be this wildly experimental thing. they first were funny rubber hose things, then people started trying to tell better stories and then the disney crew tried to make you REALLY sympathize for the characters by really focussing on "pathos." to this day, every fucking Cal-Arts student has pathos drilled into their fucking head like it's the only way to tie your shoes.

meanwhile, the wb team kept it loose, they were doing animations to show before movies, set to some of the jovial tunes in their music library. they called them looney tunes. and after 15 years of making them, they Also started to get quite good. John Kricfalusi (the ren and stimpy creator) wrote a ton about Bob Clampett and Chuck Jones (but mostly clampett) on his highly educational blog here http://johnkstuff.blogspot.ca/

hanna barbera discovered it was way cheaper to just make a well drawn design that's highly graphic so that the appeal wasn't in the movement but in the image. then you could just animate the mouth or the legs, limiting how much drawing you really needed. with this method, animators were able to produce Much more footage.

other studios started up to try and milk the surge of this new artform, and sell toys and cereal with it. there were TONS of Really Shitty cartoons. i mean, look at this shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXd-2gVOZFk

anyway... in the early 90s, disney experienced "a renaissance" with their films. there IS a documentary about that... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyeoyRjEiUU it might be on netflix...

disney cartoons became enormously profitable again and animation production kicked into high gear. disney put a ton of money into their tv division and nickelodeon, a rather new company at the time, did the same. but while disney's focus was on their IPs, spinning off pre-existing characters into shows, Nickelodeon needed new material, so they put a HUGE focus on the creators. this of course, attracted creators. Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life... etc... it was a huge wave of highly entertaining new material, and it did well.

of course, in the late 90s, animation had sort of ballooned a little too much and films were kinda missing targets despite Enormous budgets, and 3d was this hot new thing people were curious about...

here we are 20 years later and animation is SO FUCKING PROMINENT... tv, films, streams, games, not to mention medical instruction videos, architectural project development, chinese news lol...

rick and morty is animated in canada though. not korea. so there's that.

Hi everyone,

I created an account and made a video that I plan on sharing with my patients and you all to help prevent dental disease.

I will make a series of videos to answer dental questions. The first video is about cavities with help from our office therapy dog, Bodie. He is a mini golden doodle who is being trained to lay in your lap while you get dental work done.

Why cavities exist is a complex issue. It has everything to do with bacteria and acid.

One way to get a cavity is from a daily habit of ingesting an acidic drink or food. If you spend a lot of your time drinking a low pH beverage, it can eat into your tooth structure and cause a cavity.

Another way is by regurgitating acid from a disease called GERD - gastroesophageal reflux disease. This is common in people who have sleep apnea.

However, the largest way people get cavities is by allowing the bacteria on your teeth to create acid themselves. They only do that when you consume simple carbohydrates yourself and then leave it on your teeth. Time is a big component here.

So let's talk specifics:

You are more likely to get a cavity if you eat simple carbohydrates.

You are more likely to get a cavity if you leave these simple carbohydrates on your teeth. This will give the bacteria in your mouth time to create acid.

You are less likely to get a cavity if you brush and floss after eating sugar and flour (simple carbs).

You are more likely to get a cavity if you eat a bowl of cereal with skim milk than if you would have used whole milk. The concentration of simple carbohydrates matter.

You are more likely to get a cavity if your teeth are less resistant to acid from your genetics. This is not as common as people think. Diet plays a much larger role.

You are more likely to get a cavity if you snack on simple carbohydrates instead of only eating them at mealtime. People may have longer snack times than meal times, and then will eat simple carbohydrates for meals as well.

You are more likely to get a cavity if the simple carbohydrate is dry and sticky. Crackers are very sticky. Think of how much they stick into the grooves of your teeth.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. I will copy and paste the same sources from my YouTube video down below.

I'm on the Keto diet, lost 30lbs in 3mths

I have an illness that forces me to take Prednisone, I also had a very rare side effect from the Prednisone and had avascular necrosis in both of my knees so I was in a wheelchair for 2yrs (2016-2018). As such my weight really jumped up to 326lbs but I'm now down to 290 and my weight is still dropping steadily.

I do walk on a treadmill for 15min every morning when I wake up, not able to do more than that, and I also walk the dog in the evening. I feel great while being on the keto diet as it doesn't feel like I'm on a diet at all. I found a really good Tortillas that only has 6 net carbs (total carbs - fibre) that I have for lunch and I have meat and salad (no carb, low-fat dressing) for supper, I guess I'm really lucky to be part Italian because I really LOVE salads!

Here are the Tortillas I buy on Amazon, https://www.amazon.ca/Tortilla-Factory-Large-Wheat-Tortillas/dp/B002QM98DA/ref=pd_nav_hcs_rp_1/130-8560531-0163767?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B002QM98DA&pd_rd_r=771f24c8-92ac-49bd-8e13-6ec43409d1f4&pd_rd_w=gJthv&pd_rd_wg=AwjTi&pf_rd_p=e5174c17-749d-4f1f-9763-7620b3dbddb3&pf_rd_r=J1V4KF6QPFNVJNVH0XGS&psc=1&refRID=J1V4KF6QPFNVJNVH0XGS

I don't know too much about dash cams, but I do have this one and it is pretty good. Amazing quality overall, even at night. One thing I do have to say is to be careful with dash cams in extreme heat since they can get damaged on a hot summer day with the windows up. My Rexing did get damaged this way, but the company sent me a new one for free right away.
If you are looking into buying a dash cam, I would recommend looking at YouTube guides/reviews as well as Amazon reviews. I do recommend them to everyone though as they can be a life saver.

If you have Prime, it looks like they have episodes available to stream for free with a Prime account. I love watching them, even now being well into my adult years: https://www.amazon.com/Mister-Rogers-Neighborhood-Volume-1/dp/B004BZG1MG

Every episode, he just makes it feel like he is talking JUST to you. Never condescending, or frustrated, or anything other than this wise, patient, wonderful man. I wish they still aired the show on PBS, the world still needs his lessons.

HAVE YOU TRIED SSSCAT?!?! Our kitten is very frisky at night, so we bought this product off Amazon called Ssscat—essentially a canister of compressed air that has a motion detector on it and releases a puff of air if kitty walks by. Not enough to really scare him, but enough to deter the behavior! We use it outside our bedroom and it has HONESTLY been a lifesaver because kitty doesn’t bug us every night!!! He doesn’t even really try to get inside anymore. Just bought one for the guest room for when people sleep over. Can’t recommend highly enough! You’re $30 away from better sleep.

Buy Ssscat on Amazon

I believe the is "ref" as in "reference" not referral.

Edit: Ok I just took that part off and it still goes to the page.

I don't know, maybe because I was logged in?

Edit two: I now know more about amazon referral links than I ever wanted to, but it boils down to having your amazon name in the link.
Here is an explanation. As you can see my links are not referrals.

First off, go to Amazon and find a page that you'd like to link to. Copy the URL by clicking on the address bar in your browser. It'll look something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005JG32/ref=cm_lm_fullview_prod_3/102-2173641-6432913?
%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance

Generally, you can just slap your affiliate code on the end of any Amazon URL and their system is smart enough to catch it and give you credit for the purchase. But that's really not the best solution. Instead, chop the URL down to immediately after the first sequence of letters and digits. In this case, it's B00005JG32 .

Stick with me. Once you've done this once, you'll see, it's just as easy as using the Amazon system, but much, much faster.

So the URL at this point is:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005JG32/

Now, all you need to do is add your affiliate link. My affiliate link ID is davetaylor, logically enough, so this is the minimalist URL to point to this Monopoly game:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005JG32/davetaylor

Now it's just time to drop this into a hypertext reference. That's done by using an a href="" sequence:

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005JG32/davetaylor">
Disney Monopoly</a>

I'm telling you that you are completely misunderstanding (I think purposely) of what stuff like this is trying to do.

> And since it's aimed at guys that we already know are socially inexperienced, how are they going to know that that's not how it actually works?

That's the point dude. This type of stuff is for people to gain expereience and learn from their mistakes and failures. Otherwise they would never learn how to flirt with girls and would wind up being pissed off pathetic loners their whole life.

I've been there man. I was the "nice guy" before that put women on a pedastal and thought if I was just nice enough, then I would earn the girls love or attraction. And that type of thinking is just toxic for everyone involved.

It took reading books like No More Mr. Nice Guy and The Game to learn how to have healthy relationships with women where I was open about interest in the other girl.

And it obviously worked for me, because I used these techniques when I met my now current wife. She had no idea I was using these techniques until I told her about it down the road, and now we just laugh about it. She never thought I was being creepy and she didn't even realize I was using these techniques.

But, it took a lot of failures with other random girls that were awkward encounters at first until it became natural.

I've been married for about 3 years now and we have an amazing fulfilling and loving relationship.

>I was always a bit proud to be the “dad” of the group: always the DD, reliable in a pinch, or just a support role to make sure everyone is safe. But it wasn’t until I was removed from that environment that I realized that was my purpose and not just something I brought to the table as a friend.

I would highly recommend you read the book No More Mr. Nice Guy.

Good advice to get a dash cam but do NOT just go and buy the "cheapest drivepro".

There is a great market for cheap dashcams and currently the G1W holds the position of cheapest/most effective dashcam per $. Only $50 and takes microSD up to 32GB, I have one and it has worked flawlessly through winter and summer for over 2 years now. Also it does 1080p. Highly recommend.

u/coredumperror · 3 pointsr/videos

I bought the Black Box G1W-C dash cam, and put this MicroSD card into it. If you don't live in a climate where it ever gets very hot (like Southern California, where I live), you can get the regular G1W version, which is cheaper since it uses a battery rather than a capacitor (capacitors are more heat-resistant). Both versions need to stay plugged in to your lighter socket at all times, though, since even the battery version only lasts 5-10 minutes without external power.

It's too large to fit behind the rear view mirror on my Prius C, so I put it in the upper-right corner of my windshield, and aim is slightly to the left so it catches my entire front view. The suction cup that attaches it to the glass is very sturdy.

I've been pretty happy with the overall recording quality (license plates are clearly legible in the day, though you need to be pretty close at night), and it acts as a MicroSD card reader when you plug it into the USB on your computer, so I didn't need to buy a reader to be able to export the videos. And you can directly play back the videos on the device itself.

I highly, highly recommend [CODE - The hidden language of Hardware and Software](https://www.amazon.com/dp/0735611319/) (amazon link, non-referral)

This book explains how computers work from the fundementals, communicating with flashlights, morse code, tin cans on string, all the way up to modern computer hardware. Its really a great read.

I hope this helps a little bit on the way to understanding stuff. If you have any others you'd like to share as well, let me know!

...with my keyboard...?

J/K, when you're browsing an amazon link, the product is looked up by https://amazon.com/dp/[some number]

Everything other than /dp/[some number] is ignored (for the purposes of looking up the product, it's probably recorded for analytics.)

When you search for something, in this case "iphone 5 tempered glass", all of the search result links include the search term (so that the search box will still have the search term displayed when you open the product page). They also put the friendly name of the product in the url so that if you give the link to someone (pretend you're giving several links in a list), the url tells you what the link is for.

For example, the link I used started off as:

https://www.amazon.com/OMOTON-Tempered-Anti-Scratch-Screen-Protector/dp/B017XHGP4C/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=iphone+5+tempered+glass&qid=1564950183&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Personally, I like to strip all that stuff out, though, because it makes the link a bit more friendly:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017XHGP4C

Then, since I'm a nice guy, I change www to smile so that when you make your purchase, some of the proceeds go to charity.

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B017XHGP4C

Lastly, since I'm a smartass, I put in some sass:

For the latter half, "the CPU executes instructions", there's a fantastic book called Code: the hidden language of computers, that, through a series of scenarios, takes you all the way from talking with your friend through a string and two tin cans, to flash lights, to morse code, to logic gates, transistors, and finally encoding information in bits and executing it on a CPU.

It's a super fun read.

Check out the reviews on this, I got the Rexing V1. I absolutely love it.

My only complaint at all is that it occasionally doesn't record any audio, but that's pretty negligible for me really.

I save little random clips of funny shit I see all the time with the press of a single button. Couldn't be easier. And it's stealthy because it mounts right against the windshield. No suction cup mount was a HUGE part of why I chose it. Can't bounce around, way less likely to fall off, etc

EDIT: I sound like a fucking shill, how do I prove that I'm not?

u/thbt101 · 3 pointsr/videos

Yeah, Toto Washlets are the shit. But if you don't want to spend that much money, for like $40 you can get a very effective alternative.

It'll change your life. Highly recommended for anyone with an asshole.

Like most RC enthusiasts, it is frustrating that people often just see the negative side of UAV's and not all of the awesome potential benefits. In part it is because in their brief history they have been associated with weapons of war.

UAV's are already being used for all kinds of awesome reasons. I fly a DJI Phantom, some ways I have seen them being used: Ornithologists studying birds' nests high in trees, marine biologists flying them from a boat to look at whales close up without endangering themselves or the whales, geologists flying them to look at volcanoes up close, farmers using them to inspect their crops from the air (saving water by detecting hot spots and more precisely targeting them). They have also already been used to find stranded hikers and to look for possible survivors in building collapses. And all of this with just a simple $400 UAV you can buy from Amazon.

Anyway, I can go on and on about the potential of a small and extremely fast UAV like this: it could deliver life saving medicine in the blink of an eye. Guy accidentally eats a peanut, realizes he forgot his epi-pen. Right before he goes unconscious his friend calls 911. They get his coordinates and one of these things zips over there in 45 seconds with the medicine.

A small fishing boat is in distress and call a mayday to the Coast Guard. One of these zips over at 120 mph and drops a compact inflatable life raft right onto their location within minutes.

A family of hikers is stranded/missing. One of these searches in a grid pattern using thermal vision. When it finds the hikers, it drops a relief kit including water, fist aid, and a satellite phone.

I mean, it's no different than when airplanes were invented. Sure, they have been used for some horrific shit in war, but they have also been a great benefit to humanity.

EDIT:

Forgot to mention another benefit- they are fun as hell to fly.

Victorinox makes an excellent 8-inch chef's knife that sells for $30 on Amazon.

I have two of these and they sharpen up with stones really well, however it usually only takes a couple of swipes on my honing rod to restore the edge. Very solid knives, and if something happens to them... well, they're only $30, so I won't cry over it the way I would a Shun.

I've heard good things about this one if anyone is interested. The quality looks pretty amazing from YouTube videos I've seen from day and even night looked decent.

Another thing I thought was neat about this one is that it claims it detects an accident (by g-force) and will lock the video.

u/i_am_dan_the_man · 7 pointsr/videos

The DJI Phantom is only $479.

If $500 is more than you can afford, fair enough, but I think people assume these things are like thousands of dollars. $500 isn't pocket change but most people could save that up in a few months.

u/Katholikos · 2 pointsr/videos

NPR's Planet Money podcast just covered this very recently. There's a village in China that makes many of these products for pretty much the entire planet - it's where basically everything you see in a Dollar Tree comes from. It's 20 times the size of the Mall of America, and it's basically just single-person-manned stalls. Pretty wild stuff.

I doubt that's where you'd find chef's knives being made, but it's certainly possible.

Either way, just keep in mind that a $1 knife made in Japan is unlikely to be any better than a $1 knife made in Switzerland, Germany, the US, or any other country.

Keep in mind, one of the best-valued knives you can buy anywhere in the world is from Switzerland.

I just threw all his particulars into a spreadsheet - I think his income is about $125,000/yr...NET!!!

He probably sales about 360 peelers/day, while working maybe 6 hours and taking a full month vacation every year.

My estimates:

-217% markups on the peelers (same peeler for 1.99 on amazon, assumes he has a deal for a bulk rate so shipping is close to negligible, called it $3/80 peelers)

-$100/day on veggies

-4wks off/year

-6hours worked/day

-he does that - what you see in the video - 4 times/hr while working

-That video is typical: assume he does that schpeel (4mins) with that sales volume (15 peelers) with adjusted average price of $4.33/peeler (taking into account he has a scaling price, $20/5)

-Yes I scraped 28% out for taxes

I've been doing a lot of economic modelling at work lately and I'm always interested in how other jobs work as far as a payout. Anyone weird like me and wants a look at the spreadsheet pm me.

I think you need to look at it this way. Tesla have got their truck on the front page of just about every major news outlet, would it be there without the broken windows? Unlikely. Is something the windows breaking actually something buyers would care about? No. A single press release from them saying 'we now have stronger windows' would settle anything people were actually worried about.

Cooks Illustrated consistently picks this knife as one of the best chef knives, even when compared to $100+ knives. At $37, it seems to be a pretty damned good deal. I haven't used one yet, but I'll probably get a set of Victorinox Fibrox knives when my current ones need to be replaced.

u/eggbabies · 30 pointsr/videos

Cats aren't dogs, they don't react the same way. When a cat is trying to get your attention, any kind of attention is a reward. They don't understand "no" and will just come back once you shut the door again, because the sound makes you open the door.

Placing something like this outside the door is what they should do. It is a motion activated air canister that will spray air at the cat when it comes near the door, which will frighten it. It will learn to stay away from the door, and won't connect the discipline negatively with you.

u/CapybaraHematoma · 1 pointr/videos

I've had it in my car for a year and a half and it still works great. I live in New Jersey, so it has experienced roasting in hot summer days to freezing in frigid winter mornings.

u/jaysunh · 2 pointsr/videos

Sure can. I've been through several of them for varying reasons. I've been using the G1W for the last couple years, though. I love it. It just works. (you may be able to find it somewhere cheaper. That link was just to the first result when I googled).

The only advice I have, though, is this... There are two different types of cars in the world. Ones that cut power to the cigarette lighter when the car is off and ones that keep power going when the car is off. If yours cuts power when you turn off the ignition, you never have to think about the cam again. If you're like me, and the power keeps going when the engine is off, you have to remember to turn the cam on and off when needed. And if you forget to turn it off in the summer heat, the camera will melt. I've ruined several cams that way.

My GF, on the other hand, has a car that cuts power when off. She never has to worry about it.

u/Ezzwardo · 4 pointsr/videos

because the only thing that matters is the B017XHGP4C at the end.

For example: https://smile.amazon.com/oh-damn-thats-cool/dp/B017XHGP4C

EDIT: just realized it might not be clear what's going on.

Take this url: https://smile.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Neon-Red-Blue-Joy/dp/B01MUAGZ49/ref=...?...

Trim off everything from the ref= stuff. That's all used to track you and your history and provide personalization without storing anything on your computer (well, technically it is storing it on your computer, in the browser history).

You now have: https://smile.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Neon-Red-Blue-Joy/dp/B01MUAGZ49

The /dp/B01MUAGZ49 is the actual id for the product. Nothing else matters. Replace Nintendo-Switch-Neon-Red-Blue with woah and it will still take you to the same page.

Doing this means that:

  • if someone misspells or puts in different caps or has a localized name for the product, it can point to the same product
  • search engines see the full set of keywords in the URL, which might help SEO
  • if someone wants to share it, they can get cheeky and that drives engagement
  • users who hover over links before clicking get an idea of where they're going to: for example
  • they can differentiate traffic from different sources by putting slightly different names in the links: so they might have awesome-switch/dp/B01MUAGZ49 in a tweet, and totally-cool-switch/dp/B01MUAGZ49 in a different tweet, and then measure which tweet drove more total sales (compared to search results). no idea if they do this, but it's a strategy.
  • lots of other things

I have a Rexing Dash Cam and I like it a lot. You just run a cable from the cam to an aux port in your car and it does everything else for you. It records on a loop, so if nothing is saved from previous driving time, it goes back and deletes that data so you don't have to worry about your SD card getting filled up. Just turn your car on and you're set.

$1.99 for that

You can also pick up the "upgraded" version labeled "STAR", which is the identical model shown in the video, for around $7. The only difference between the STAR peeler and the REX peeler for $1.99 is the material that the handle (not the blade) is made out of.
