Yes, perches with varying texture and diameter are important. bottlebrush perches are some of my birds’ favorites.
Food and water cups need to be up high-not below a toy or perch to minimize poop contamination. You’ve probably heard a high quality pellet with fresh veggies and fruits is considered the healthiest diet by most experts. Birds unfortunately love most junk food, like dogs, but it’s easier to damage their health since one chip for them is like a whole big bag for us.
Birds are active, intelligent, and resourceful, and get bored easily. Try yucca, balsa, sola, mahogany pod, paper, acrylic, plastic, stainless steel, and natural materials to see what he likes. Spiral boings, yucca swings,or grass mat “trapeze” toys provide motion for variety. Be very careful of toys with loose threads, round bells with slits, ladders with curved hooks, as birds have been injured-read some toy safety literature.
You cannot have too many bird stations. Virtually every flat surface in my house is a bird station.
Keep looking and asking, and keep challenging him with new experiences!
