Looks like the culturelle has only one strain? The probiotic I used had 10 strains. I think of it as a broad spectrum probiotic:

But, in all honesty, considering your kiddo has such severe constipation issues, I would probably try to find a liquid cal mag with a higher proportion of magnesium to calcium - preferably a 1:1 ratio.
Edit: This is the stuff I used to give to my oldest, who (before taking this supplement) had trips to the ER & enemas for constipation. But, this stuff was like a miracle for her! As for dosing, my doctor told me to start off with a tsp per day, and then increase the dose daily until her stools became loose. Then, back off that dose a bit. If I recall, I think taking 1 Tablespoon a day was what my kiddo needed at age 2-3 to keep her stool soft and easy to pass.
