Why not curl your hair using rollers, curl formers, or flexi rods? You can get a soft bonnet attachment for your blow dryer to set them and eliminate the need for a curling iron entirely. You're still putting heat on your hair but you can minimize the damage. I would also add a deep conditioner at least once a week to your routine and a heat protectant. If you go this route you also might find it worth your while to buy a foaming mousse/setting lotion so that your curls can last you a couple days, with dry shampoo in between washes.
Some links:
my favorite foaming mousse is by creme of nature:

curlformers:

flexi rods (you can find these for WAY cheaper at the beauty supply store):

soft bonnet attachment for your blow dryer (you could buy an actual hooded dryer but I have not seen one for less than $100):

youtube is a great resource for learning how to do roller sets and to use curl formers.
Thanks for the tips. Maybe the Shea Moisture is a bit much, my hair still feels so dry even with it. I will try something lighter. I get really itchy, greasy, and flaky if I don’t wash by day 3, to be honest. It’s not pretty. I can try using less, though, if that helps.
I haven’t tried a diffuser. I’m really not a fan of blow drying in general, but I got something like this (yes, it is very silly looking) that dries low and slow.
I cowashed with deva curl no poo cleanser, and rinsed with cold water.
I applied the Cantu curl cream while still in the shower. Getting out the shower I scrunched with eco styler gel and let my hair sit in a micro fiber towel for no more than 45 minutes.
Next, I set myself up with the soft bonnet dryer and low and cold air for an hour. And when my hair is dry I separate the curls with Shea oil. Finally I flip my hair and diffuse for extra bounce.
