I'm white but I get razor bumps like crazy too. Years ago I found a razor at an outlet mall called "Bump Fighter" with a serrated type blade that worked like a charm. I almost didn't buy it because it said "Made for the way a black man shaves" and I had no idea how black men shaved differently. I do the trimmer set on 1 thing now too, but I wish I could find those razors again.

Edit: I haven't looked in years after no luck, but I found them on Amazon just now. I'm ordering some along with the shaving cream. Is it weird that I think it's kind of cool to use a black guy razor? Bump Fighter

Ya I would get at least 5 of each kind. That way, when you find one that you really like, you can order more off the internet without fear of running out of that brand.

Also, it never hurts to have extra blades that you like laying around. Should you need to travel via airplane you can send them ahead of time and continue DE shaving. I just made this mistake and CVS was out of DE blades. The razor I bought to use, called Bump Fighter, gave me an uneven and uncomfortable shave.

During my quest to reach the shave set up I have now, I came across this product in Walmart's ethnic hair care section.

Bump Fighter Razor Handle

"Created exclusively for the African American male who suffers from skin irritation."

The really interesting thing about this product is that it fits the original Gillette Trac II cartridges perfectly, which do not pivot and will help to break you of bad habits picked up with normal cartridge or electric shaving. It's no replacement for a DE shave, but it will start you in the right direction for about $5.

I like to use this razor to avoid razor burn/ingrown hair issues...

...but I like the idea of saving money so I'll give your idea a shot, thanks.

Used to have similar issues. Ever try these (link below)? Basically a safety razor that leaves a light 5 o'clock shadow. Will not take the hair below the skin line, reducing the number of ingrown hairs. Not a perfect solution...obviously not completely smooth shave and have to shave daily if you have a heavy beard, but for $6 it's worth a shot imo.

came here as a dude to learn new ingrown hair prevention tips but i'll give advice instead. no matter what i've tried, shaving my face results in ingrowns.

however, i have found something that seems to be the best so far, resulting in very few, sometimes none, and that is bump fighter razors. these are significant because they have a built in guard that will leave a TINY amount of stubble, it just doesn't shave super close which is how ingrowns come about, which i personally think is way better than having ingrown hairs.

i also use a "real" shaving cream where i create the lather myself instead of from a can using a badger brush.
