A lot of the "nootropic" drugs people on this site take were originally formulted as potential alzheimer's treatments: they're neuroreparative. A lot of people begin their nootropic experience with huge aplomb because, like just about everyone else, they had suffered a cognitively tramatic event/complex in their past. I was subjected to ADHD medications--which suppress BDNF levels--from kindergarten to college, and I was an alcoholic for a few years after that. So, I'm still making progress despite being involved with nootropics for over four years.
A lot of people go through the phase where their brains are being repaired to pre-traumatic functionality thinking their lives are changed forever. The euphoria and motivation that comes with that euphoria can catapult them into a whole new phase of their lives, a phase where they will always be this happy and motivated.
But you can only repair the brain so much: this is why so many people eventually reach the crushing realization that piracetam, which had changed their lives, no longer works very well at all. The neuroreparation that was triggering the euphoria is completed, and hedonic adaptation has brought them back to baseline satisfaction levels.
This is often a depressing realization that leads to further experimentation with more extreme compounds, which can lead to attempts to make the brain do things it cannot structurally do, which leads to overstimulation, brain fog, and a decline in the faculties these drugs are starting to enhance.
Exercising every day, eating healthy, and learning the roles of important intermediaries like ALCAR and other nutritional supplements like the amino acids and B vitamins, and learning about neurotrophic diets like the keto diet can help you reach the next level, at which you are able to accelerate your brain beyond its normal potential.
I generally try avoid any more than two "hard nootropics" (i.e. synthetic neurotrophic drugs that drastically act on monoaminergic/hormonal factors) Earlier this week, I was experimenting with a new combination: NSI-189 and bromantane. While the bromantane was helping some with focus and avoidance, the combination was overstimulating me, and I have since abstained.
I have P21 coming in the mail, though, and I look forward to seeing if it would better synergize with any one other of my hard nootropics. With me it's always been about constant experimentation and, of course, extensive research of every drug I take and the interactions they have.
Also, if you like ALCAR and Tyrosine, you have to try this. I'm on it right now and have been taking it pre-workout for a few weeks, and my workouts have reached new levels of intensity. It's especially good if you are taking a tolerance break from dopaminergics, or are trying to put on muscle.
