I've been using [this bean bag mount] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CRQUKQ4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_uUwPwbH9AQSP3) for awhile and it's worked pretty well. The power and volume buttons end up resting right in the middle of the top lid.

I prefer the bean bag mounts since they don't leave any visible sign that you've used a GPS that might make someone try to break in. It's also easier to travel with since you just need to toss it on the dash.

So I found my temporary solution. It's by no means ideal, but it does what I want it to and cost me less than $50.

First, I got one of these things to put on my dash. It fits my nexus 7 pretty well, but it is a snug fit.

Since I wanted it to be a clean look, as clean as I could get at this point anyway, I decided to get a bluetooth receiver to plug into my aux input.

You can go cheaper on either, but that works well for me.
