Actually if you want a really high quality display, portability, and the GTX 870M, you're looking for the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro.

It has the best display you'll find, as it's the closest thing to an IPS display without being one (it's a trademarked term). It's also only .8" thick and weighs only 4.3lbs.

It DOES get hot while gaming, though. I'd suggest getting a CM Storm SF-19 to keep at home for when you're going to game for long periods of time on it.

I just ordered this cooling pad which is supposed to get here in a couple of weeks even though I have prime. Thanks for the tips I think i'll do it tomorrow and watch a few vids on youtube.

If you don't need to be mobile with the heavy applications/gaming I highly recommend this cooling pad. I absolutely love it and it looks badass...

This is the same thing I replied to, but I'm sending it to you so you see it

I have an ASUS G74SX and the specs are

RAM: 8 GB

HDD: 1TB

Processor: Intel Core I7 2.20 GHZ Dual-Quad

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX560M

17.3" screen

and was only $850, you will need a cooling pad though, I recommend this http://www.amazon.com/Gaming-Laptop-Cooling-Turbine-SGA-4000-KKNF1/dp/B004G603E2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370284439&sr=8-1&keywords=gaming+laptop+cooling+pad
