I'm new enough to Icelandic not to be able to reply fluently, but I can read and understand thanks to [Colloquial Icelandic] (http://www.amzn.com/041542707X). I bought it at Eymundsson in Reykjavík and saw it at every bookstore. It has lots of easy but meaty reading passages.

I'm also new to Reddit, so let's see if that link formatting worked.

We even have an entire subreddit devoted to learning Icelandic one of the posters there has even created a memrise wordpack linked in the sidebar. Colloquial Icelandic also comes highly recommended.
