She did a guest lecture to about 20 of us in my Computer Ethics class back in 1980.
Got my nanosecond.
Favorite story was how after a demonstration of an early version of FLOW-MATIC to the navy brass she left knowing they were unimpressed. She spent the evening converting the tokens from English mnemonics to french sounding ones and gave the demo again. The brass was convinced the machine somehow now understood language, the lights came on, and full funding was given.
Computer Power and Human Reason - Weizenbaum was the course text for the ethics class, btw. Weizenbaum was another pioneer. Good book.
