Older but very relevant book: https://www.amazon.com/Corporate-Warriors-Privatized-Military-Industry/dp/0801474361

Singer is a great author on topics like this. I remember reading this in 2008 and thinking "Yea, thats not good.."

If you're interested in learning about the PMC industry, I highly suggest you check out Corporate Warriors by PW Singer

Also the term "mercenary" is something that doesn't really have a clear definition. There's the Geneva Convention definition of it, but it has very specific criteria that has to be met to be considered a mercenary, plus the US and several other major countries haven't signed the UN Convention on mercenaries.

I am, for the record, a supporter of the PMC industry.

Read Corporate Warriors by PW Singer, it's like an academic study of the industry. It's pretty badass.

There are hundreds of private military firms in countries across the world.

I did some research on them, so until Hellenomania gets back to you: Corporate Warriors by P.W. Singer for a very academic look at the industry and how it has developed; and War Dog: Fighting Other People's Wars by Al Venter if historical operations in Africa and particularly Sierra Leone and Angola are of interest to you.

A book called "Corporate Warriors" lays it all out.

A defunct British PMC had a contract ready to go in Papa New Guinea to retake a small island from rebels for a few million USD. It would have used 40 men, 3 helicopters, and other equipment.

They had a line item bill that broke the final fee down.
