Good point, but the Phenom II X4 965 does have a DDR2 memory controller (as well as a DDR3 one) - so if he has a decent ammount of DDR2 (4GB at least) then it shouldn't slow him down too much.
However, if the OP doesn't have 4GB of memory (or more) then a good value 4GB DDR3 kit (like this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMX4GX3M2B1600C9-Performance-Desktop-Memory/dp/B004K2SD4E/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1373702713&sr=1-6&keywords=ddr3+2x2gb ) would not be a bad idea. For ยฃ24 you are getting some solid memory - and since it is rated at 1.5V then it will work in future systems (eg. an Intel Haswell or AMD Piledriver system works fine with this model of memory).
