Someone said the typical trope of "boobs" and showing off skin. Unfortunately in this world, that's the biggest attention grabber. You rarely ever remember the male cosplayers and they'd be lucky to even have someone remember their name. If you've got boobs, then you're at least in a better odds of being noticed over any w/out boobs.

I don't think negatively towards cosplayers that use their assets to their advantage, hey it's what the people want I suppose. But if you want to try to build your brand for you - as an actual talent and crafter, then do some of the things that has already been suggested in your post. A friend of mine got his brand out there, purely on his skills and talent. If you want a good guide, check out Cosplay Marketing & PR 101

Get some video tutorials out there, do some live streaming of your builds, work that social media to the bone, and of course networking w/ other well known cosplayers helps too. People's attention span isn't getting any longer, you will need to be ready to post daily, if not more. Entering competitions can help boost visibility as well; winning them will work even better. Going to more cons will also help.

I've been going to NYCC since 2006 when I first started to consider myself a 'cosplayer' and didn't get noticed until 2016. 10 years and I still don't think I'm barely scratching the surface of notoriety. Lucky for me, big builders aren't overly saturated - that I've found a category that can help me stand out a little.

There's a lot of helpful tips in these comments, mix and match what will work for you and your life. It's not going to be cookie cutter and should always be within your own limitations. Good luck out there!
