Right now it looks like everything should fit into the core set boxes.
As for future: the Plano 1374 is so popular that the top reviews on Amazon are all about X-wing.
In a similar vein, I use the 732 which has 3 3700 trays (like the 1374 which has 4), but then 2 3600 trays (which are a little smaller, and I use for tokens and misc stuff).
I also have this version of the plano 5321 for tournaments. They also make a double sided version which I have also used before realizing it's a bit much (because I already had the 732). I still pack it for weekend vacations or hangar bay tournaments when I want to carry multiple lists, but not all my stuff.
These are awesome: https://www.amazon.com/D-I-Y-Cases-Gaming-Foam-Custom-Latches-1/dp/B014MYBGAW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484064373&sr=8-2&keywords=plano+5231
I've gotten mine for around $15, so I'm not sure why this price is so high (at writing it's around $28), but They work great for small ships and a large ship. If you really want to, you can cut out the inside stuff to make room for more large ships. Having the foam pre-cut to fit the box makes everything super easy. I have three of these cases now. One for each faction.
