DOTA guy here. There are no friends in public games.

ANYWAYSSSS--

This is in your price range, and fantastic: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C9VB318?ie=UTF8&tag=small0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00C9VB318

I know the look of it is a bit odd. No status lights for the individual LAN ports... but that's ok for you.

If you wanted to go bigger, this has a bit better speeds at long range, but is slightly outside your budget. It's also the router I use at home: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Nighthawk-AC1900-Gigabit-Router/dp/B00F0DD0I6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1419565731&sr=1-1&keywords=r7000

At somewhat close range, the D-Link I listed performs the same as the R7000.

All that being said, I'd save the $50 and get the first one. If you had a ton of devices, I'd say get the R7000. You likely won't be able to tell the difference, though, with under 5 machines.... unless it's on the opposite side of the house or something.

This is a great wifi router near the top of the pack for AC1750, dual core ARm processor, 128Megs Ram/128Megs Flash, ddwrt support.

OR the newer TPLINK Archer c7

IF you look here you can see ranking/reviews for these routers(top 3 AC 1750 units), including the Asus one nectarprime listed earlier:

Are you more worried about the modem or wireless router? Most modern modems/routers are just fine. It's the wireless radio that's terrible.

I just looked at a huge number of wireless router options, and the Archer C8 is my current pick for the money. While it's a tad slower than some of the fastest routers, it's affordable and has almost no bad reviews on either newegg or amazon. (<10% 1-2 star reviews). Every other router was more in the 20-50% 1-2 star review range. (Yes, 50%!).

Here's a list of the top performing routers from smallnetbuilder, sorted by 5ghz downlink. (I decided to use that instead of overall throughput, but it should be fairly similar).

| Model | 5ghz downlink Mbps | Newegg 1-2 | Amazon 1-2 | Amazon price | Newegg price |

There's a couple of routers on Amazon which will work as access points.

I'm using the D-Link DIR-868L myself. It's around $120 SGD at current exchange rates, and if you buy more than $125 USD of stuff, you'll get free shipping.

These dual band routers have a high WAN to LAN speed (more than 900Mbps through the 1Gbps ports) and support multiple devices:

Netgear R7000
Linksys EA6900
D-Link DIR-868L

For "a multitude of devices" there are tri-band routers like the ASUS RT-AC3200 and the Netgear R8000.

"good with gaming": if you mean cable-like low latency, that does not exist. Latency can also vary depending on interference and on how crowded your area's spectrum is.
