I have a TP-LINK Archer D9 AC1900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit router here, that can host (and is hosting) a dedicated 5GHz ac network, connected to a Gigabit Ethernet port on the Riftcat host computer, via it's own Gigabit Ethernet port, using high-speed Ethernet cable, with transmit power locked to maximum. It's quite far from the most expensive, most powerful, most feature rich option, but it's decent and still sounds pretty fancy right?

Yeah, well, consider the fact that I can achieve identical Riftcat performance by using a USD14.50 D-Link DWA-160 wireless USB dongle in Windows 10's hosted network mode as long as I am in the same room, which I usually always am.

Fancy schmancy.

I really like my D9 for a whole lot of reasons that have nothing to do with Riftcat, which is lucky because buying it solely for use with Riftcat would have made little sense.

The really important things: get on an uncrowded 5GHz channel (n is enough) so the signal is clean, stay close so the signal is strong, and prioritize the Riftcat use case (a dedicated solution is ideal) so you're never sharing bandwidth/resources.

You can easily buy a Wifi Adapter here. All you need to do is plug it in and install the drivers with the CD that comes with it. Fairly simple.

Is your case steel? If so, the case may be interfering. On the other hand, that adapter isn't the best in the world, at last according to reviews. I would spend the $15 to get another adapter.

the USB dongle i have now works.......when the load isnt too great, i just hate that it really leaves a sour taste, i guess i'll be avoiding them for gaming from now on :/
