Very nice laptops and highly recommended for a reason. Great battery life and great for use in professional settings. For a non-gaming laptop at $1k+, I like the XPS for its design, weight, and great battery life. Would've gotten it myself, but worked with a smaller budget.
Also, a tidbit- don't buy a heavy or moderately heavy laptop if you're in school or going to move around a lot. I made the mistake of thinking I could handle it and I fucked up my shoulders during my years in school.
Hello Reinuky, thank you very much for the suggestion! I have been trying to look into it, and it seems there are tons of variants of XPS 15. Here are my findings so far:
- A lot of variants are touchscreen; I am trying to stay away from that, it is a feature I don't need and it makes no sense to pay for it
- Most of the variants can get their RAM (or hard disk) upgraded.
- I haven't read anything yet (negative or positive) regarding quietness, but some people do think that it overheats.
- This looks like a reasonable variant (there are some cheaper ones but with only 8GB of RAM which I would immediately upgrade). Seems like i would need to go to the high end of my budget, which is possible. Also I understand that the build quality is much better than the eluktronics device I currently own, but spec-for-spec I am underwhelmed by the fact that a 50%+ price increase (and almost 3 years worth of difference) only allow me to upgrade from a 1050 to a 1050Ti .
I will keep researching, maybe there were some things I missed out.
Have you considered the Dell XPS 15 9570? It has:
The laptop runs Windows 10 Home. It has better components than the UX550VE, specifically the processor. The laptop has a full aluminum chassis and thin bezels.
What about Dell XPS 15 9570? It comes with 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8750H Processor, 15.6" 400 nits display, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1050Ti.
Should I also consider the XPS 15 if it is worthwhile to look at laptops with 1050Ti’s? How would build quality compare? Also, is the PS63 truly worth the $1500 price tag or could another machine, such as the XPS, be better? Sorry for asking you so many questions but you have had so many useful responses and great insight!
Big fan of the Dell XPS 15 this one will smash 4k editing but if you take a step back in model and throw a bit more at it, this one here with the beautiful 4k resolution screen is amazing, I used to have that very laptop. Amazon referral links included
The XPS is a laptop known to have QC issues in the past but they have improved recently. While the price is lower than the regular its not the deal that they make it out to be
What're people's thoughts on this deal: XPS15
Here is another option:
Dell XPS 9570 Gaming Laptop 15.6" FHD, 8th Gen Core i7-8750H CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1050Ti, Infinity Edge 400-nits Display, Silver, Windows 10 Home - XPS9570-7023SLV-PUS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CTHLX8B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_17fTCb63WPBGX
Reviews say it has good battery life, it has the 1050 GTX linked in the other laptops, I have no idea about thermals, sometimes with the thinner laptop models they have thermal problems, but it looks very professional and meets your requirements
EDIT: this version of the same laptop has the larger battery, reviews say there is some thermal throttling issues that can be fixed by undervolting the CPU

XPS 15 9560 (2017) is your best bet. The i7-7700HQ should handle what you throw at it, and XPS are known for their displays. You'll be cutting it closeto your budget with the 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD but that's all I can think of.

The xps 15 9570 same specs you're looking for just got put on sale for $1400 on Amazon.

Yeah, I was looking at the XPS which I found a good deal on here. I also was looking at the razer blade and there never seemed to be any sales on it, so that is out of my budget. I'm curious, what do you think of the surface book first gen and the Huawei matebook x pro? Are they good for editing at a better price or should I stick with the XPS?

Hackintosh compatible laptop, with the same CPU as the 2018 Macbook PRO, 20-25% faster GPU, touchscreen, and more than $1,000 less.

>Hey man, thanx a lot for taking the time answer that.

> Matebook seems to be getting really hot while editing according to a lot of reviews and users also it has that MX150 graphics.

>I love the think pad series and was researching through a lot of them Thinkpad T480 seems to have
Intel® UHD Graphics 620 graphics. Its so frustrating trying to find the right build sometimes I wish i had some more money to buy those 4k-5k laptops

At the mentioned budget, you have almost every option available.
Dell XPS 15
Explicitly NOT a gaming laptop but with the specs of one. Is 0.66 inches thin, weighing in at 2.0kgs. Best screen in terms of brightness, crisp images and colour reproduction. Also, the best in terms of customer support. Produces the least heat of the three.

Razer Blade 15
Happy Diwali all year round. 0.66 inches thin, looks and feels like a Macbook Pro. Is a gaming beast inside. Gets hot, but thermal management is at it's best. But the fans won't be always silent. Imagine a Macbook Pro but which can game as well as the other things Apple is the best at.

Gigabyte Aero 15
Priciest and the bulkiest of the bunch at 0.8 inches thick (albeit the same weight as the XPS). The 144Hz screen is going to be a blessing for a MOBA like HotS. Despite being heavily gamer oriented, has ultrabook level battery life.

MacBooks would be more expensive, if you are thinking alone the XPS line I would push you towards the Dell XPS Thin & Light Gaming Laptop which has a much more powerful processor
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CTKVGQ5/
you said weight is important not thick no ufo, so i decided to give you a non gaming laptop that has a videocard
