not too expensive, and they probably burn at least 6 hours a filling.

Of course nowadays you can beat that with a single AA battery and one T1 LED, if you just want the light.

This one has a sheet metal base for stability and a wire kinda thingy to fit a small pot. Comments state that they're probably good for a cup of tea or one bag of generic, yellow-label Top Ramen, just boiling away, and not much else. You're not going to feed 5 people with a stir-fry with this thing.

Joshua Slocum cooked on an oil lantern on his single-handed, around the world sailing trip. His book says it was a double lantern, so I guess it had twice as many wicks?

My last trip, a few weeks ago, I pulled out my propane lantern. It ran at least 10 hours on 16 oz of propane, but I'm going to try to time and weigh it to get a more exact rate. About $1.33 a pound, buying it at the BBQ tank exchange place.
